RE: [TopHive] Re: brood at following board

Ya I remember those banana slugs...lots of fun was had with "lady fingers" (fire
cracker) around this time of the year..I used to live in the Centralia/Chehalis
area..yes they will cover anything on the bottom with propolis if its large
enough to not be able to carry out...HHH

Thanks for the suggestions. One of my hives has a front entrance with a
1/2" slot entrance which I have a reducer for. But the other TBH has a
side entrance with three 3/4" holes drilled in the side. For the winter
I was thinking of plugging two of the holes and leaving one for
entrance/exit. The hardware cloth is a good idea for a hole that big,
thanks. I also have seen a few slugs around one of the entrances, and
the slugs in the Pacific NW can be huge.
I have read that the beez will seal with propolis any intruder that
happens to die inside the hive. Has anyone ever seen this? The more I
read about propolis, the more amazed I am. My daughter is a violinist,
and one of my hives are Italians. When I told her that these Italian
bees are the decendants that were involved in the making of Stradivarius
violins she looked at me like I was crazy. Then I showed her that their
propolis was one of the main ingredients in the varnish, she was amazed
too!
Thanks,
mike h

they need to start putting away a little for winter and have slacked up on bee
production.

way to give them more room to store more honey???? nubee Roger NJ
