Welcome! We're a friendly group for everyone inspired by Goldfish from beginners to seasoned hobbyists.
1)LEARN ABOUT FILTRATION:There's no such thing as a perfect filter-too many variables so don’t waste time chasing shadows.
2)TO QUARANTINE OR NOT:If you do not or do not intend to, please don't keep fish. Assume all new fish infected.
3)TEST TEST TEST:Test all water parameters before medicating. Very often you kill fish through negligence rather than disease. Test first, medicate later.
4)CONTROL FEEDING:We tend to overfeed. Fish do not die of under feeding but they're often killed by overfeeding.
5)THE BEST FISH IS NOT IN YOUR POSSESSION:Do not assume you own the best fish, this belongs to someone else. There should be a sense of humility in your keeping.
6)OVERCROWDING:Never overcrowd. You need to be real master in water management in order to overcome this.
7)PRODUCTS & SUPPLIES:There's thousands of products to help but also thousands to hinder so be prudent. Never buy on advice of LFS seller. They do not understand your needs, only theirs. Only buy products & supplies after careful study & consultation with well-informed, impartial & experienced hobbyists.
8)CHANGE WATER:The key word is CHANGE. If you're not prepared to make drastic water changes, forget fish & keep something else. Clear water does not=clean water. Be a master of water management & it will manage your fish.
9)LEARN ABOUT YOUR FISH:There's hundreds of varieties. Join a society, get active in forums & chats. Learn first-hand from experienced hobbyists the standards & criteria of your particular interest.
10)LOVE:With love comes responsibility to seek the optimum for your beloved pets. Like us they're subjected to sickness, degeneration & death. Learn to cope with these & overcome them with zeal & graduate to impart your knowledge and skill to those that remain ignorant.

Hi Art, I knew ponders did this but wasn't sure why-just curious & it makes sense now you explained it as I know the fish go into an almost hibernative state
Hi Janina, If the nutrition is leaked out in frozen foods then it really is going to waste then. Good idea to try to solve the Platy situation-do you think
David, have you try to mate your phoenix fish yet? I really would like to have one or two of those, they're so pretty. My goal for this coming breeding season
