The Equine Voice is the publication put out by USERL that creates a lot of awareness and brings in new volunteers & support. We need to keep this going!!! Advertisements are a VITAL part of this project in order to keep it in print!
Jaci Ackerman, one of the founders of North Carolina Equine Rescue League and United States Equine Rescue League, is stepping down from the board. Jaci started Law School this year and found she could not commit to this organization as she had in the past. Jaci has brought this organization a long way and is responsible for creating most of our image through her marketing skills. Although we will dearly miss her for the next couple of years there is a plus side, her becoming a lawyer is going to help this organization in providing free legal services and advice, don't worry Jaci we'll try not to abuse you. So glad she chose this profession.
See you in a few years Jaci!
On the flip side, we would like to welcome Will Walls as our new board member. Will and his wife Julie first joined the United States Equine Rescue League as a foster home and assisting on a large seizure. Since then, they have both become very active within USERL. Will has taken on the role of USERL State Lead Investigator (NC) and assists many of our regions in NC with problematic horse neglect or abuse cases. He graduated from the US Naval Academy and is a Retired Naval Intelligence Officer. In addition to his work with USERL, Will is a Certified REINS (Regional Equine Information Network System) volunteer and is the training coordinator for SART (State Animal Response Team). He has been involved in the horse community for 12 years. We feel that Will has a lot of experience that will help USERL move forward and continue to grow.
is this for the richmond area chapter and if so why are you selecting greensboror nc to meet

It's almost here. I'm asking for a "last call" for your RSVP to attend Saturday's meeting. We need a count to know how much food to plan for. Another volunteer is arranging for snacks, dinner and drinks, for the meeting. Everyone should expect to contribute about $5.00 toward take out dinner (Pizza, salad, dessert, drinks, etc.)
Please let me know as soon as you can, and I look forward to meeting everyone there.
Kindest Regards,

Agenda:
1:00 pm - Foster Coordinator Training
3:00 pm - Adoption Coordinator Training
5:00 pm - Dinner Break (we will be ordering in)
6:00 pm - Volunteer Coordinator Training
7:00 pm - 2006 Goals for your region
We should end about 8:00 pm. You may come for part or all of the training.
Boy, that seems easy enough. I have a library card for Henrico County Libraries. The easier locations to get to might be Tuckahoe Library (on Parham Road, which is convenient to interstates) or Innsbrook Library (same thing, a little further west)
I am planning a training session for people interested in
Adoption/Foster and Volunteer Coordinator positions. I'm trying to
find a meeting location in Richmond as it is the most central
location for 3 regions. Library's have rooms that can be reserved
but we need someone with a library card for that county to reserve
the room.
Can someone help?
We want to book for November 5th.
Or, if anyone knows of another location in the Richmond area that
would allow us to meet I would greatly appreciate if you would share
with me. I will be using an overhead projector which is why a
restaurant (unless they have a private room) won't work.
Thanks for any help you can give.

Subject: [USERL-VARD] Foster homes needed who can house Stallions
Can you or do you have a friend that could house a stallion? We do not have enough homes approved to house stallions and we need your help!
Maybe you or someone you know has the ability and facility to do so but hadn't thought about fostering for USERL for any number of reasons. If finances have held you or your friends back please don't let it. Housing stallions is a special needs situation and if you need help with expenses we will find the money. We need the homes for stallions more than we need to worry about the foster home being able to cover his expenses.
Their are different types of setups that we can accept so I'm only going to list our very minimum standards because I want to hear from you and want you to give me a description of your facility and then decide if it could work for us.
We do not allow barbed wire fencing, the horse must have access to at least 1 1/2 acres of turnout. The horse must have either a 3 sided run in shelter or access to a stall in hot or inclement weather. Your fencing must be at least 5 feet tall and be secure. Some stallions can be turned out with a gelding. We are currently only approving homes in NC, Va, the Va/MD border and the NC/SC border.
If you think you have the facility please email me privately at Karen@... and give me a good detailed description of your facility.
When you reply please provide me with the following information:
1. Your name, address, phone number and email.
2. How many acres the stallion will have access to
3. The type of shelter he will have access to
4. The type and height of fencing he will be turned out in
5. What other horses will be on the property
6. How close he will be to other horses - mares, geldings and other stallions.
7. A brief bio about your background on handling horses.
8. Whether or not he can be housed alone.
Anything else you think I should know and have forgotten to ask.
Please feel free to pass this email on to anyone you feel might be able to spread the word or may have a facility to house a stallion for us.

You may want to repost this in a few days. I've invited everyone but it may
take people awhile to actually join the group.
Thanks
