Subject: FW: Tommy the Bloodhound (Mix?)

Here are the pics (finally) of Tommy.  Here is the bio on him:

Tommy was found (by me) wondering up my dirt road shaking his head with every step. I am thinking he is about 2-3 yrs going by his teeth. I am also thinking, he is bloodhound or bloodhound mix with maybe redbone coonhound? I stopped and when I got within 3 feet of him smelt a horrible odor and there were little gnats flying around his right ear. He is underweight and was full of fleas. I took him in my kennel, gave him a bordetella and distemper/parvo shot and put him in the bath.  Upon lifting his ear we found it to be extremely infected.  We gave him after his bath, a Comfortis, antiobiotic, rimadyl and put antifungal meds in it. The was all on Wednesday.  Thursday we took him to the vet, got him a rabies and had the ear cleaned out and was given ear meds.  He had a heartworm test and was found to be negative.  He needs to be neutered.
I can not keep him as I don't have the funds, have a sick and disabled husband, a business that is running slow in this economy so I am hoping a rescue will take him in.  All that needs to be done to him at this point is to finish his meds and to have him neutered.  Thank you, Louise

PLEASE CROSSPOST~PLEASE FORWARD~PLEASE NETWORK BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE FOR THIS LOVING, BEAUTIFUL, HAPPY NATURED BOY!  It is heartbreaking that no one will come forward for him when he LOVES EVERYBODY!   He is good with other dogs, he is smart and knows his basic commands, he is attentive and eager to please!  And he is going to DIE ON MONDAY, 11/23!!!

Every day is a wonderful day as far as Baron is concerned--but Sunday, November 22nd is his last day alive!

Baron wakes up happy and is so glad to to see "his people" when they come in to greet him at the start of the day!  He just loves everyone!!!    He does not know that he is out of time!  He does not know anything about death!  How could he?  He is a typically incurably happy young Pittie, who loves everyone and is healthy and full of life!

Baron will be just as happy on Monday morning when he wakes up
just as excited to have a brand new day and to see everyone.
PLEASE DON'T LET HIM DIE ON MONDAY MORNING!!!!

BARON  IS SCHEDULED FOR EUTHANASIA ON MONDAY MORNING, NOVEMBER 23RD.

SADLY, HE WILL NOT GET A REPRIEVE AGAIN.

Please see below from the treasurer of New Beginnings Animal Rescue.  All of us love this big boy.  We know he's had a tough life already.  We were so happy to find a home for him against all odds and then his adopter backed out because of his heart worm status.  Then, our hopes were lifted again when another family stepped up to save him and pay for the treatment he needs.  But nobody expected the dad to loose his job.  If you can help, please do.  Chocolate Milk is a dear, sweet boy and all of us will be devastated if he has to be put down.

If you can help, please contact Sam at 912-610-1573 or at samusmclife@         yahoo.com

To: Petra Brooks <newbeginningsanimalrescue@...>

This boy is very special! He was found by our secretary one morning while she was getting in her truck to leave her home. He was covered in blood. She contacted animal control and they came and got him. When they brought him in the office they cleaned his wounds and the blood off of him and he's a very sweet boy! He gets along with everyone! Cats, dogs and kids! Is very submissive to other dogs. After we had an adopter for him, we sent him up to SNAC to get fixed and we got terrible news. He has a heart murmer, high heart worm postitve and a sore in his genital region. He was unable to be neutered and they sent him back the next day.  His adopter backed out... Yesterday we had a family who wanted to adopt him and get him the treatment needed to get rid of his heart worms. They were supposed to come pick him up today. This morning our Vice President got a phone call from them with a very heavy heart. The husband found out this morning that he lost his job. With that news Chocolate Milk lost his new forever home. If we can get him sponsored to be rid of his heart worm and neutered this wonderful dog just might have a chance to live. He is at a high kill facility right now so his time is running out! Especially with him having these problems. Please! Is there anyone out there who can help him? Call us at 912-610-1573 if you can help him!

Subject: DARLINGTON, SC -- Beagle "Shiloh" has Broken Femur - Needs $$$ for Surgery!!!!

 "SHILOH"

Shiloh is a male beagle who was
brought in to the shelter by AC
yesterday afternoon
(11/18), after he
was hit by a car.
One of our
volunteers
stopped by the shelter
yesterday evening and noticed his
condition and the pain he was in.
She
immediately contacted the Rescue
Team to let us know about this sweet
boy. She then picked him up and
drove him to the vet for evaluation --
Thanks Robin for making sure that
Shiloh was taken care of!!! :)

Lynette from the Rescue Team went
by the vet clinic this AM t
o check on
Shiloh
. She found him shivering and
shaking under a blanket... The
vet
gave him fluids and pain med
injections last night. He pottied all over
himself this AM, so they had to bathe
him...
After reviewing his x-rays, the
vet determined that Shiloh's
femoral
shaft is broken right below the head.
Really bad injury -- he needs a pin put
in and then some type of wiring to
prevent the head from rotating. He is
in lots of pain -- he seems like a really
sweet dog
though even thru all the
pain
.

We would like to raise the money to
pay for Shiloh's surgery to fix his leg.
We'd also like to raise the funds for his
basic vetting as well (neuter,
vaccinations, hw test and de-worming).
His total vet bills are estimated to be
$aaa. Please help us to get this
handsome beagle boy pain free and
running again! Just look at that sweet
face and hound-dog eyes!

Subject: She beat death once - help her do it again - Jacksonville, FL

Please crosspost----
Krystal was found nearly-dead at 9A and I-95 near the
Jacksonville  airport two years ago.  She was grossly underweight and had all the signs of having been a bait dog for dog fights - her teeth were filed  down to the gums and she had fresh and old wounds on her face and body.  Paul found her that day and saved her life.  He nursed her back to health and she is now a happy 65# girl who is lovable with adults, but is still not happy living with other dogs. She likes to sleep on the couch and is crate trained and is about 3 years old now.

But her owner who saved her life is losing his own!  He is in Hospice and not expected to live much longer.  Family members all have their own dogs and cannot take Krystal in.  They are going to EUTHANIZE her - but I asked them to let me tell rescue about Krystal.  She deserves a chance to live, however, there are NO offers yet!!!

Please give Krystal a chance to beat death one more time!

thanks

Please note that these pets are posted on Petfinder under the shelter name, "Rome-Floyd County Humane Society" as a courtesy only. The pets you see here are NOT SAFE, nor are they under the jurisdiction of the Humane Society.

Pets having names beginning with "9" are Animal Control property, and will be euthanized after Tuesday eve if not adopted.

These pets may also be found on the following Petfinder website:

Q: ARE YOU A RESCUE GROUP?

A: YOU MUST BE AN “APPROVED” RESCUE GROUP TO PULL FROM THIS [KILL] SHELTER.

Q: WHAT DOES THAT MEAN, “APPROVED?”

A: IT MEANS THAT YOU MUST FOLLOW ALL THE PAPERWORK RULES FCAC DEMANDS [ which are stated on its website].

AND, YES, THIS IS A PAIN, BUT UNLESS YOU FOLLOW THEIR RULES, THE PET WILL BE THE ONE WHO LOSES HER LIFE.

Floyd County Animal Control is in the process of adopting new procedures regarding the rescue of animals by outside groups. On this site, you will find an application and an authorized agents list that must be filled out before any rescue can take place. This form must be filled out by groups that have rescued animals from FCAC previously as well.

To rescue an animal you will need to provide the following information:

1.       Approved Application

2.       A copy of each rescue group’s state issued shelter license

3.       An authorized agents list (a list of every individual from your group that will pick up any animals.)

This information is requested from you before your group will be able to rescue from Floyd County Animal Control. Please note that if this information is not forwarded to this department, no rescues by your group can take place. Please note that these new procedures have been put in place to protect the integrity of this department and your rescue group. While we realize the importance of animal rescues, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of the animals being rescued as well.

Once you have completed your application, please mail it or fax it to 706.233.0032:

Floyd County Animal Control
Attention: Rescue Group Application
Post Office Box 946
Rome, GA 30161-0946

Please allow at least ten (10) business days to respond with either approval or denial of your request.

Q: IF I’M WITH A LEGITIMATE RESCUE GROUP, BUT HAVE FILED NO PAPERWORK WITH FCAC, CAN A PET BE PUT ON HOLD FOR ME?

A: NO.  NO WAY.  ALL THE PHONE MESSAGES IN THE WORLD WILL NOT SAVE THAT PET FOR YOU.  “APPROVED” RESCUE GROUPS’ REQUESTS ARE THE ONLY REQUESTS THAT WILL BE HONORED. IF YOU’VE FILED NO PAPERWORK + IT’S THE 11TH HOUR, YOU’LL HAVE TO GET AN ‘APPROVED RESCUE GROUP’ TO SPEAK FOR THE PET ON THEIR BEHALF.

IF YOU DO NOT KNOW ANY RESCUES ON THE APPROVED LIST
AND NEED HELP TO PULL
PLEASE EMAIL
MARGARET  mrenowi@... .

Q: WHY ARE THESE RULES SO STRICT?

A: Due to an incident a few years ago with an alleged "rescue" group, FCAC pets were being sold to laboratories further north. The procedures are now strict in order to ensure this doesn't happen again. Please complete any paperwork in advance if you can, so as to be on file should you ever wish to visit + rescue a pet.

Please see a typical situation is in our county: a man writes, "due to recent job loss and financial situations I have a great deal of difficultly taking care of my dogs' needs.."

These family pets were surrendered + are now on death row:

Little Madison or Maddie as I call her. Was hit by a car and left in the road. ACO picked her up and called me. Her pelvis is broke but will heal..her leg was broke in one place and is pinned. She is healing well so far but the surgery has cost me $350  .

This guy is Stubby. He is such a wonderful dog. A Corgi mix maybe. He was hit by a car a month ago and taken to AC. He was healing so they didn't take him to the vet. When I got him  I looked in his mouth and he has what looked like abscessed teeth. The vet said it is exposed bone!! His jaw was fractured but has already started healing. However the exposed bone needs to be covered with gum tissue and he is at the vet now getting a flap grafted over the exposed bone. He should heal fine and be almost good as new but ...  it will cost me $150.This is Stubby above.

Then I picked up a 4 to 6 week old puppy that went to a neonatal in St Louis but I had him at the vet on IV fluids and he stayed there for a few days. That cost me $80 that was not reimbursed.

Also ,I am keeping a Female Chihuahua here for a lady who is in a Abuse Shelter. She isn't allowed to have a pet there so I was asked to baby sit her "Baby Girl" till she has her own place. This little Chi his about 5 lbs is the sweetest little thing even though she apparently suffered abuse also.
I have had her spayed, fully vetted and hw tested..she is negative. The lady will not be able to repay me but I wanted to do it for her while she is getting her life back in order. I have had Baby Girl a month now. The lady has a job now and hopes to find a apt that will allow her to keep her pet. She loves her dog so much she was sleeping in the car at night with Baby Girl instead of in bed at the shelter. It was too cold to leave Baby Girl in the car and not fair to her. I will keep her till she is ready to take her back.
But that has cost me $100.  which is a very low price. However I do almost 0 adoptions here. I depend solely on donations to survive and thankfully I have a few donors who keep me going. However...I can't afford these out of pocket expenses when I help the dogs I am not reimbursed for.

I am also fostering some Dogs from Animal Control here that are too small( only 5 months old) ( and it is too cold)  to stay in the outdoor Shelter. I have two tiny Chi's here now that have a bad case of bacteria in their intestines. I am treating them and will took  them to the vet this morning. However the city is not able to pay for their vetting so I will have to pay out of pocket for them.

If you can help and I HATE TO ASK !! I ALWAYS HATE TO ASK.. but if you can spare a little ...I would appreciate it so much. You can pay pal me at PayPal.com and then input my email address LHolloway1948@        aol.com or you can pay directly to the vet at Animal Health Center 573-471-4500 and be sure to say it is for Laura Holloway at SEMO Animal Rescue Alliance, Inc. it is best to ask for Gerry or Heather.
I need to raise at least $700  up to $1,000 for vetting expenses that I can't cover out of pocket. I will start a Chip In Fund Raiser also. Here is the link. http://semoanimalsanctuary.chipin.com/semo-animal-rescue-alliance-inc

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR HELPING OR CROSS POSTING. I KNOW THIS IS HARD TIMES. I KNOW THE HOLIDAYS ARE COMING UP. ANY SMALL AMOUNT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.

Saunderstown, RI - HELP!!! - WINKY NEEDS A WHEELCHAIR, AND PEE PROOF BED NOW!!!

PLEASE CROSS POST THIS TO EVERYONE YOU KNOW!!

Please, Please, Please, if you can give a dollar, it would go a long way in getting Winky a chair.   Look at this face, he is an angle dog.

Come on folks, do you think we can raise $500 to get him a chair.  He has faced so much.  And because he can't walk or get up he lays in pee if he has an accident, until someone can help him.

Can we also ask for $120.00 for a special bed that will allow his accidents to flow through into a tray.  That way he won't have to sleep with wet fur, and get a bath everyday.  Not that he complains, he is just happy to be alive, and have a person who loves him, and be off that damn chain in a warm loving home.

Please help beautiful Winky get his wheels. Winky is part of the Flower Dogs family and was rescued from a city shelter.  Winky had been found with 30 some dogs living with a hoarder.  Winky was chained to a fence in the midst of winter when found.  His spine was damaged due to his early life of being chained, and his muscles have been getting weak.  He was deemed unadoptable due to his handicap, and has a forever home here.  He use to be able to barely walk a bit but, now has a myopathy which allows him to move his legs but his leg muscles are too weak to hold him.

Won't you please Help Winky get a quarto wheelchair ( 4 wheels) and a special net bed that will be therapeutic for him.  He is receiving heat treatments and physical therapy.

This is the special bed that Winky needs.

PLEASE DONATE THROUGH PAYPAL AT:  flowerdogsorg@...  (at  aol.com).

or snail mail a check to FDS PO Box 204 Saunderstown , RI 02874 .

Flower dogs is not a 501(c)(3) because she spends all her funds on the dogs.  Anyone donating over $50, I will personally send them a tax receipt from Klemko Akita Rescue Family 501(c)(3).

Please give our sweet Arizona something to truly be thankful about this year.  She has been at the shelter for months now.  Her babies have long since left for rescue and yet she remains behind.  We would like to raise all of the money to have her treated for heartworm, since that is why rescues are not pulling her.  We only need another $195 for Arizona to be sent to the vet for heartworm treatment.

If only 20 people donated $10 we would reach her goal.

Can you spare $10 to give the gift of life????

"ARIZONA"

Arizona is a beautiful boxer mix that came to the shelter with a large brood of pups in tow.  Her babies have long since left the shelter for rescue.  Poor Arizona was left behind.  This girl has tested positive for heartworm, so we would like to have her treated and vetted.  Several rescues have expresed intereste in Arizona but when they found out that she was hw positive, they declined to take her.  Our biggest hope is to get her treatment sponsored so that she will be more appealing to rescues.  Please help us to ensure a safe and happy future for this glamour girl!

We have not had Parvo/Distemper booster vaccines in almost a month.  I had hoped the shelter would be able to order some but due to budget cuts and a very limited [food] budget it is not possible at this time.

The shelter is not even afforded the luxury of purchasing vaccines, they are purchased out of the very limited food budget.  Right now its just not possible.

If the dogs are not vaccinated they have little to no hope of staying healthy and getting out of the shelter alive.  Sadly many rescues cannot help us when our dogs do not have the protection provided by booster vaccines.  They just cannot take totally unprotected dogs and risk Parvo, its not safe for multi dog foster homes.

I would like to ask all of you to help me in purchasing as many Parvo/Distemper vaccines as possible by making ANY size donation toward this effort. Remember ANY amount will help, every dollar adds up to another flat of vaccines!

Donations can be made to me by way of Henry Humane, I will collect donations for about 2 weeks and then purchase as many flats of vaccines as possible through a local vets account.

Please mark your donations: VACCINES FOR ANIMAL CONTROL.

If you wish to make a credit card donation by way of Pay Pal please visit www.henryhumane.com and follow the donation instructions on the home page.  ** Make sure your donation notes state VACCINES FOR ANIMAL CONTROL.

NO ONE WANTS HARLEY…THIS POOR DOG HAS BEEN THROUGH SO MUCH!  LOOK AT HIM WHEN HE WAS ALMOST STARVED TO DEATH

HIS STORY  Hi ! I am Harley. I am a tan and white Pit Bull. I am 2-3 years old.  I really don't know which, you see, as I have been treated so badly that time moved very slowly for me. I love people and other dogs, so I don't think I was beaten or fought. But those people I wanted to love me, tied me outside and did not give me food or water for a long, long time. They never gave me any love or any shots or Heart Guard, so I am heartworm positive.

The image

HARLEY NOW  PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT LET HIM DIE AFTER ALL HE HAS BEEN THROUGH

WE ARE TRULY DESPERATE TO FIND HARLEY A RESCUE OR A HOME ..HE IS A WONDERFUL SWEET BOY…WON’T SOMEONE OPEN THEIR HEART TO HIM…HE JUST WANTS TO BE LOVED BY SOMEBODY

HE WILL LOVE ANYONE WHO SHOWS HIM SOME KINDNESS!  HE HAS HAD SO LITTLE IN HIS LIFE…

An update on Harley, the male pit bull in Corsicana Texas.....

Harley is still boarding at the vets offices. Two very kind ladies extended Harley's life until Dec. 5th! A HUGE thank you to DeDe in San Antonio, TX and Alison of Memphis, TN!!!! Harley sends lots of big wet kisses your way!!!

Harley seems destined for something special after making it on the streets nearly starved to death, an injury to his back leg (probably grazed by a car by the looks of it), and then having his life extended by two total strangers! And he still has love for us humans! WOW, that says something about this fella.

He is doing great, gaining weight at a perfect rate, still has a slight limp in his back leg and probably always will, but he still LOVES his walks, or should I say he loves walking me!! He seems to get along well with other dogs. He's in a run with dogs on both sides and doesn't pay them any attention. He is going on a 'field trip' Friday to see how he is with small dogs and cats in a home setting. He LOVES baths and being dried by the blower! He has been neutered, got that done on the 2nd of Nov, is current on all his shots and is on heartworm prevention. He is positive for heartworms but shows no symptoms. We started him on Heartgard which will kill the baby heartworms and the adults will die off eventually. He is well behaved, doesn't jump up on people, not a barker, tries to 'hold it' in his run as long as he can, doesn't chew up his bedding and loves it when people come visit him.

If you or someone you know would like to give Harley a forever home or foster him until he finds his forever home or have any questions about him please contact me at lilliepoo@... ( @ GMAIL COM )

He has until Dec 5th at which time he would have to go to the animal shelter, and in Corsicana they put pits done without even giving them a chance. It would be so nice if Harley could have a home for Christmas and a chance to give the gift of unconditional love that dogs so easily give.

Please forward this on to your contacts so we can find Harley his forever home before his time runs out!

Thanks!!!
Anne & "Harley"

Tre Needs Your Help!!

This poor boy was brought into a local kill shelter in South Carolina by his "breeder", Tre is a 6 month old German Shepherd. Tres' leg cannot be repaired as it has severe nerve damage. Tre has been this way for months according to the vet. This poor boy is only 6 months! He did not obviously deserve this but he is now on the right track. Tre will hopefully have surgery tomorrow, as we had to wait almost 2 weeks because Tre had hookworms and whipworms so bad that his gums were very pale and white. He has been on antibiotics, intense wormings and bloodwork twice, and vitamins.

Tre is the SECOND amputation that we have had this month and yet another one waiting in the same exact shelter!

We are in dire need of 300.00 to help Tre!

This includes (wormings, vitamins, antibiotics, amputation, neuter, shots, heartworm test and his followup)

We have taken quite a few medical babies lately but we just cant turn our backs on them.

Please email dawn@       mygrowl.com if you would like to donate

Please help Harley find a new home! She is a sweet, sweet puppy girl. She has a donation for her spay surgery...now we just need somewhere for her to go ASAP.  I saw this girl with a "FREE" dog sign at the WalMart today and I talked her owners into letting me try to place her or get her rescue.  Please help me help this sweet pup.

Here is her story...

We rescued our baby Harley from a very abusive situation. We've had her for 4 months, and our apartment complex is telling us we cannot have her anymore. They told us we have to get rid of her within a week or they will evict us. As much as we love her we cannot get evicted. She's very sweet and playful. She is not fully potty trained.  She has an AVID chip in her, and we have the transfer forms for who ever adopts her. She is up to date on all her vaccines. Harley has not been spaid though. Please CALL me with anyquestions or advice.

More About Crash

'Crash' is a gorgeous Chow mix, who is a very likeable guy as you can see by his pictures!! He is very personable and enjoys meeting new people!! He is approx 2-3 years old and weighs 61 lbs. He looks bigger because of all that chow fur.

All the staff really took a liking to him because he is SO FRIENDLY!! A bit strong on the leash, but he was very excited to just be outside for the day. He will probably calm down once he settles into a family routine. Crash does not seem to want to be bothered by other dogs, as he did make a low growl sound when introduced to our very friendly dog, 'Tender'. He did seem to like our cats though. Who can figure?

He knows the commands, 'sit & lie', and may know more. That is all we could get him to do as this happy boy
was more interested in running and playing!! He should go to a home with children 9+ due to his size and energy. Oh...he also seems to be house-trained!

HW+ BORIS— ROTTIE MIX W/ SPECIAL NEEDS-- MUST HAVE RESCUE SATURDAY, NOV 21ST BY 5PM!!!
Look at this face, read his story and tell me this boy doesn’t deserve a chance at the good life! We received a call about a dog running loose with a rope tied around his neck. The caller noted that the rope seemed to be embedded in his neck. When we picked Boris up, we realized how bad his condition is. Someone obviously had him tied up with a nylon rope for a very long time. The rope was completely embedded in his neck. We sedated him, removed the rope and cleaned up his wound yesterday. He is very thin and weighs 54 lbs. He should weigh at least 65-70 lbs. And on top of all his other problems, he is heartworm positive. But Boris is happy to be safe and warm. He loves people and wags his little nub all the time. It always amazes me to see a dog who has been through so much still appreciate and long for the human touch. Absolutely amazes me! It really makes you wonder who the better species is. At 2.5 yrs young, this boy has a long life ahead of him if you will help! Follow the link below for a cute picture. If you wish to see pics of his wound, I can send them to you. No cats please!

PLEASE CROSSPOST~Every day is a wonderful day as far as Baron is concerned--but Sunday, November 22nd is his last day alive! Baron is a very handsome young boy who is not yet a year old; this 45 lb. pup with his gorgeous red color, is at the Jefferson County Animal Shelter in Madison, IN.

HIS TIME IS UP!

THE SHELTER HAS MANY NEW ARRIVALS.
INTAKES ARE EXCEEDING OUR CAPACITY TO MOVE
OUR DOGS TO RESCUE OR ADOPTION!

BARON LOVES EVERYONE!
PLEASE SAVE THIS SWEET, JOYFUL DOG!

If you have room in your heart and in your rescue for sweet Baron, please contact Jenny at jcas39@... (@seidata.com) or call 812-273-1788.
PLEASE DO NOT WAIT!
YOUR RESCUE OFFER MUST REACH THE SHELTER BEFORE MONDAY MORNING IF YOU WANT TO SAVE BARON'S LIFE!

I will be neutered BEFORE adoption.
I'm 1-3 years old and 40 lbs.

Baron leashes well and sometimes shakes hands.
LOVES EVERYONE!
NO DOG AGGRESSION, NO FOOD AGGRESSION.
LIKES OTHER DOGS!
THERE IS NO PULL FEE FOR BARON!

Subject: Lab in need of rescue or home- Columbus, Indiana

I received a phone call today from a lady I know regarding her dog. She has developed severe asthma with COPD and has been hospitalized several times. Consequently, she has missed a lot of work and pay. She is losing her trailer and will be going to a homeless shelter either this weekend or next until she can get back on her feet. She has a black Lab, "Kovas", who is 4 yrs old, neutered, good with kids, not good with cats, and OK with some dogs and not with others. I forgot to ask if he is UTD on shots. He has been an indoor dog so I'm assuming he's housebroken. I've met him and he is a nice dog.

I know this is an all too frequent happening these days but does any one have room for him? She would be so appreciative. She doesn't want to do this but her back is against the wall. She has no money and a young son to support besides herself.

Thank you for any help you can give. If you know of other contacts you can send this to, please do so. Her name is Janet and her phone # 812-522-3613.

DCHS Cat Habitat:

Heartworm positive dogs -those that were recently tested - will now be identified in  a  special list -this is the link to this list. The reason: With the help of Darlington-K911Darlington HS Rescue has over the past few months, and will continue to do so, actively sought donations and sponsorships ,so that these otherwise healthy and adoptable dogs will be allowed to go to rescue.  Many of them are young and even without injections not at risk for heartworm disease if treated with year round Ivermectin for 2 years.  However many veterinarians are not yet supportive of this approach. For that reason most rescue groups can place hw + dogs only after they have been treated with Immiticide.
Your donations and sponsorships  will put these hw+ dogs on equal base with the lucky ones who have not yet been infected. Special Paypal "Chipins" are  posted on this site so that Darlington County Humane Society Rescue can get them into a rescue/home as soon as possible! Please see the literal "shelter" where the dogs and cats live all year round You will even more appreciate the dedication of the shelter staff and volunteers... PEASE HELP THEM!! Donate paint for the blue puppy house, so that a volunteer could give it a new coat.

Shelley

UPDATE:  Shelly has spent the day at the vet and based on what we have been told, Shelly must be the strongest little girl EVER built! Her hip needs work, her rear right leg has been broken and her teeth are all out of alignment. We surmise all of these injuries are due to her being hit by a car. As is this was not enough, her whole body is riddled with buckshot. Despite all of these horrible injustices to Shelly, she is one of the sweetest, most loving girls around.

I have had a lot of visitors to my kennel recently. The staff has been checking out my back left leg which was broken and then rehealed (I'm going to the vet to see what if anything we can do for it at this point!) and they are also constantly poking their heads into my mouth. Being the very calm, easy going if not sedate gal that I am, it doesn't really bother me. What they are checking out are my teeth which grew in at all angles and at very uneven intervals. I think I heard them say my mouth was a "trainwreck." Not sure what that means but hey, if it means I am getting extra attention I am very cool with this. But moving on, before finding my way to the shelter I had been hanging out at Coker College (the local school) and finally a kind person realized this was really no life for me. I have already spent time in the main office and I was told I was very well behaved as I immediately stretched out in the middle of the floor and took in all the activity around me. Cats and other dogs were roaming around and we all quietly coexisted. I am an older gal...maybe 5-7 yrs old...and surpiringly am HW Neg. Yep, I can hardly believe it. My life has obviously not been a cup of tea so I am really looking forward to finding the new perfect home.

My name is Hilton and obviously you are already feeling drawn to me simply by looking at my pictures. I can assure you that I am just as captivating in person as I am on line. I am great with other dogs and immediately warm up to everyone I meet. #2563-8/19-lab mix stray-friendly-stray

Donna  #2598-8/20  SMALL dog!! Beagle Corgi Mix??

My name is Donna and I could have sworn I heard the staff singing by my shelter door the song by Ritchie Valens. I's entirely possible I could inspire such a beautiful, loving song as I am such a sweet, kind loving soul. I love everyone I meet and delight in interacting with other dogs. I am great on a leash, very easy going and love all over body rubs. Come say hi today and see how song writers can take inspiration from me!

Dazzle - FULLY sponsored  for vetting/spay  and SPONSORED for Heartworm Treatment!

Dazzle came in with Granny via animal control. While Dazzle is likely full grown, her fun loving attitude and lassez faire approach to life would make you think she is still a tiny little puppy. Dazzle is a very thin gal who is great on a leash and exceptionally friendly.

Granny  heartworm negative

She reminds me of this famous dog  who lived in Brooklyn: Ask Yuffy

Both Granny and Dazzle are now fully SPONSORED,

Granny arrived via animal control with her daughter Dazzle. Granny is so named as she has a sweet, motherly aura about her and exudes batches of doggy wisdom. She is a no fuss country gal who loves a good stroll down a quiet road and takes things in stride. Come check out this black beauty with the huge hound jowls!   9/19/09  #2928

Both dogs are at HIGH RISK for euthanasia.. They were dumped when old. Most likely they spent their  lives producing litters for a backyard breeder and  lived past their "productive" years .Their last days should not be spent on a cement floor, waiting to be dispatched. There are good homes for old dogs. They can still find a retirement home, maybe even together! They just came here a few days ago, and already they are in danger.

A cement floor just is no place for Granny and Dazzle to spend their last days and nights on.

KK  female  She is a HUGE dog, Irish Wolfhound mix!!?

Do I have a story to tell! I was turned into the shelter along with my buddy, Sally for not getting along with the male dogs with which we were sharing quarters. I'm a sweet, calm girl but like most women get agitated with men constantly hitting on them. Upon minimal inspection at the shelter, it was quickly determined that I am in heat, as is Sally! Obviously this is something we will address so I can move onto my new home. I can understand the males being attracted to me as I have cool whispy terrier-like fur all over my body which beautifully frames my face. In addition, I am good on a leash and really very friendly.

Arizona

Arizona is one dog you can't but help love! She is one of the sweetest dogs EVER and tries so hard to please you. As we headed out for our walk, she hug closely to my side and periodically would look up at me with her huge brown puppy dog eyes. Arizona is a huge, super size love bug who is so very patient, attentive and affectionate. Don't miss out on this great dog!  hw positive Lynette had her spayed

Her pups went to rescue. Arizona needs heartworm treatment so she can join her pups!

Sally  looks like a Cattle dog/Corgi mix!!

It's clear to see why the men will want to hit on me, right? With my striking brindle "jacket" and blue/brown eye combo, I have always attracted lots of attention. This time around it backfired on me. You see, I was turned into the shelter along with my friend, KK as we were housed with males dogs who would not leave us alone. We told them to "bug off" and as result we were dropped off at the shelter. Now as a lady, attention from the opposite sex is flattering but when you are in heat and in no "mood," one can get grumpy. Now that we are in our new shelter home, it is clear to the staff that both of us are sweet gals who will make super pets. We are both great on a leash, love human contact (you can see in one of my pictures I love being held!) and are very friendly. Oh, and yes we will both be spayed soon! Thanks for asking.

Mellie

Mellie is a gorgeous caramel colored bully girl - She was found starving, with every bone protruding, when she was 5-6 months old in a drainage ditch. A kind soul picked her up and brought her back to health. She has proven herself to be fantastic with people and other doggies - needs to be with doggies of similar size as she is far too playful!!

Rita   - Fully Sponsored -

Rita is a sweet, easy going, friendly dog who is very upbeat and a joy to be around. She is attentive and great on a leash.  Rita is not a big dog, "knee high", estimated 30 lbs And she looks like a Beagle-Shepherd mix. Perfect family dog mix. The name given by the shelter at intake, might be too serious for this playful dog and it is negotiable!

Update: Lynette 10-21: Rita went to the vets yesterday- the femur in her back leg has been broken and re-healed.  She can walk on the leg.  Dr. Anderson feels that the leg does not require surgery - it would have to be totally rebroken and a plate put in if anything was to be done, and right now Rita is walking on the leg.

Rita is a spunky lady who looks like she has lead an adventuresome, full life. She has had her share of litters and has a slight stiff back leg which looks like an old injury that was never properly cared for by a vet. Despite her hard life,
Rita her id number id 2999.

Hemingway

Update from Lynette:

Hemingway has healing bite wounds all over his starved little body & he has pockets of fluid above his 2 hips... He walks so gingerly & cannot stoop down to go into his igloo doghouse.  Brittany started him on pain meds & there was immediate relief...  He actually may have been abused as "bait dog"!!!!!
#3572-11/12-male blonde & white mix-This pup was found tied to a utility pole & had endured at least 2 nights of pouring down rain.
Lynette: I did go in & cuddled him--picked him up & put him in my lap--he & another dog had been tied to a utility pole--One dog belonged to the woman who lived at that location; the one we got was the woman's son's dog. They made the woman put her dog in the house & will do a check to make sure he doesn't wind up back on the pole.

This male pit was tied to a lightpole last week -- 2 different people called animal control and complained -- Jeannie called twice herself. The sheriff and AC intervened -- we had nearly 3-inches of rain over 2 days last week. This poor boy sat in the rain, chained (no collar!) to the light pole with no cover, no protection. When AC and the sheriff arrived there was a drowned puppy nearby also. They removed the dog from the owners. This boy is the sweetest, most mild mannered boy.  Very thin, and obviously starved for affection, as well as food. He gets along great with KIDS, and other dogs. Seems to be full grown - 1-2 years old. HW negative

Caramel had been adopted a few days ago to be given as a "birthday gift". However the father did not want a dog, so Caramel was brought back to the shelter today.

Oppa

I heard the most outrageous thing today. Three thumbs up!! How can you possibly have three thumbs up when only two are permissable? I can't ponder such an anomaly but am so thrilled that this is how I was rated today! Talk about cool..no..ultra fab! But you know, I am worthy of such a rating. How could anyone pass up my award winning smile and smartly colored winter "jacket?" While my handsome looks will easily catch your attention, my well mannered, calm, sweet, and engaging personality will keep you coming back for more. Tack on how super I am with cats and my youth ( I am 11 months old) and you'll know you've found the perfect pet!

Buttercup

HI! My name is Buttercup and boy do I feel at home at the Darlington shelter. Now, let me explain! Three and a half years ago, my person could no longer care for me so I was surrendered at the shelter. Things were sure different back then. From week to week, I was repeatedly saying goodbye to kennel mates who were not going out on rescue and not being adopted. You get the picture. Because I was the apple of everyone's eye on the staff, I stayed on for over a YEAR! Yes, you heard correctly. After a year of patiently waiting for a new home, my original person came to the shelter looking for a new dog. Imagine the surprise on both of our faces when our eyes locked. Needless to say, I went "home" for the second time.
Recently, I found myself in an unsupervised situation and hooked up with a bunch of roaming dogs in Darlington. Animal Control was called in to round us up and guess who they caught? Me, of course and yes I was the ONLY one caught. Talk about dumb luck but then maybe not. I will come when I am called and am extremely friendly. I heard the Animal Control guys calling out to me and of course I trotted right over to introduce myself.
I love everyone...adults and kids included. Currently I am sharing my quarters with two other dogs which is cool with me as I love company. I have been known to get a bit grumpy if I am coupled with another dominant dog who is my size or larger so just be forewarned.
I will also share with you that I do not mix well with cats.
In reconnecting (via email) with a volunteer who used to come and walk me at the shelter in 2006, she will tell you that I am the perfect lady on a leash. Now this is a huge compliment as I know she has logged over 50 walks with me alone plus countless other dogs. I beamed when I picked up her email!
The buzz at the shelter is that I may have a decent shot of finally finding the perfect forever home due to the extensive rescue network. At the age of 6, I am really ready to settle down and focus my attention on a new family who can benefit from my sparkling personality, huge tail wags and southern charm.

Butch

My name is Butch and after being at the shelter for over a month now, I am really ready to go home.  Originally when I arrived, I was quick to make friends with 3 other large dogs all of whom have found new homes.   My reality is that I have been left behind.  I am a super friendly, fearless guy who is great on a leash.   In my ideal new home, I would have plenty of space to run around to release the extra energy that I have and the home would be free of cats.

Burma  female

Here's another one that breaks my heart. Burma is a stunning deep mocha, small-medium sized girl who will literally shake like a leaf when you enter her kennel. When I say shake, her whole body quivers and jerks and she does her best to tuck her tiny little head into her chest. She is super with other dogs and is fast to snuggle up to her new kennelmates in an effort to ease her fears. She has slowly come around since arriving at the shelter but is still painfully shy. She accepts gentle pets and is adjusting to her new temporary home as best she can. She has a ton of potential to be the perfect pet but for now is so terrified that all she can manage to do is to try and blend in with her surroundings and hope that you will not notice her. Having read her story, you have now noticed her and perhaps can help change her life course!  hw positive. Please help DCHS get her treated!

William

William here! I am the almost famous black neighborhood lab who everyone was caring for over the last 6 weeks until a concerned person realized that I could not live on the streets forever and brought me to the shelter. I have only been here since 11/2/09 and I think my interview went well with the rescue lady yesterday. With her pen and small pad of paper out, she was quick to note that I am a very calm, cool guy who is very well behaved, super with cats and even better on a leash. As if this was not enough, she read on my intake form that in my temporary prior life, it was noted how I love hanging out with other dogs and kids.   #3461   11/02/09   75lbs   #3466-11/02-turned in with Wendy- hw negative

Blackie

I think I need to go back to the color chart and double check to see why I am named Blackie. You see, I am actually a beautiful deep mocha brown color. I had two ladies fauning over me and my plush coat of fur yesterday on the shelter porch. You should have heard them saying that I had a coat like a mink or an otter even! I just went along with the conversation as I so delighted in having some special down time with my new friends. Now speaking of friends, you may have heard that I came in with three very near and dear lab friends, Brownie, Doll and Baby. They all went to new homes last week and I am having to reconstruct my life and start anew. Thus far, I think I am doing a good job. I gave my new human friends yesterday some very deep all over body nuzzles and let them love and love on me. While my prior owner commented that I am not good with cats, I had cats swarming all through my legs and body on the porch and paid them no mind. Already I have been hooked up with two other roommates in my bachelor pad and they seem pretty cool. Come stop by today and check me out as I really hate being the one "left behind!"

I am so glad you are reading about me. Seems like there are lots of other all black sleek handsome pets in my neck of the woods and that the competition to find a new home has really heated up! What I can tell you is that I am a super sweet, unassuming, quiet girl who can be a bit shy upon first intros. I am good with other dogs and when I am feeling at ease my grin goes from ear to ear. I am Bobbie the Brindle. Has a nice ring to it doesn't it? My best friend and partner in crime Billy and I had a super time on our walk yesterday. In addition to showing off to the master walker, MY skill on a leash, I was able to put my best paw forward and shower her with unsolicited kisses, hugs and kisses. You see, I am an extremely friendly, uninhibited gal and even though I may have a touch of puppy still in me, I am very well mannered, respectful and attentive.

It's me Chlora giving you a mini update on my already stunning profile on line. Bet you hadn't see me stick my tongue out at a camera before! Yep, it's pretty cool how I can do that. In any event, today was a really big day for me as I got a new bed. It seems some kind rescue friends donated new Kuranda beds to help dogs like me sleep better at night. I am so pleased and thrilled with my new bed. As a thank you, I showered the delivery agents with special kisses and super sized tail wags as I am so very grateful. As they were leaving my kennel, I could hear them say such kind words as, "such a friendly girl," " check out how calm and well behaved she is," and " I can't belive no one has taken home that great dog yet." I am patient and know my time will come. Til then, I am resting and relaxing comfortable.Chlora has been hanging out in a high traffic area at the shelter on a tie out and is perfectly suited for this site as I quickly found out. As people stroll by her, she eagerly and generously gives out free kisses. She is a curious lady always interested in seeing what new dog is coming in and has a lot of fun checking them out. Chlora is great on a leash and a very friendly gal. As you can imagine, there is a cool story behind her name. A couple weeks ago, a Darlington resident peeked out her back window to find an unknown dog inspecting her pool area hence the name, Chlora. Come check out this girl and see why we think she is such a super meeter/greeter. Heartworm negative

Mrs. Beasley  Fully Sponsored for HW Treatment, Spay, Vetting. Thank you!

I got a little nervous when I heard the glamour shot lady was coming today as I knew it was going to drizzle outside and GASP what might it mean for my hair-do! Turns out, I think I did just fine. No, I did I great. Bet you didn't know how shiny and sleek my jacket is? How about those legs? Pretty sexy and shapely, right? I'm pretty pleased in looking at the proofs as I am mighty proud of my stubby dachshund legs and mini black lab body. Due to my unique body size, I am perfect for most size laps and pack a surprising punch in heading out for a walk. Outside of my fixation on my good looks, I do love heading out for walks and am really super at meeting and greeting other dogs. Since I have been at the shelter, I have seen a lot of my roommates come and go and have my paws crossed that my time will be coming soon. Maybe now that everyone knows how calm, sweet and beautiful I am, my new home could be just right around the corner.   #2879-9/15-Mrs. Beasley is a sweet, friendly little dog-she rode in with AC

Bea

Someone was really consumed with my ears today! You see, I was minding my own business....well, as best I could as I share my pad with 2 other dogs, when this gal came in to interview me. She mentioned something about pictures and light conversation and before I knew it we were heading down the road for a walk. I know she was really impressed from the get go, when I strolled right by the main office porch covered with napping cats, without even batting an eye. As if this was not enough, you should have seen how well behaved, patient and super sweet I was on our journey. As we delighted in each other's company, I couldn't help but notice how many pictures she was taking of me...or was it my ears? No mind, as I was happy to get all the attention.

Henry  SPONSORED!!!

Henry is fully sponsored for HW treatment now and will be getting his treatment w/ the vet tomorrow and Wednesday.

As I left for my walk this morning, I heard the other dogs whispering and pointing their paws at me. I could have sworn I heard them mumbling something about blocky and head and large, etc. They must be jealous of my gi-monic head and how it always turns the RIGHT heads. Having delt with these comments before, I know how to deal with them in a calm, polite manner. My head is my best feature. It houses the huge tongue that I use to kiss new and old friends. I use my head as a means of endearing people to me as I oftentimes will gingerly place it in the middle of someone's lap. My head can be cocked at the just the right angle to show off my ever so broad grin earning me the treats and biscuits which I dearly love. I am a smart dog and understand what it takes to make it in this dog eat dog world. Stop on by and see how quickly I can get under your skin. I know I was fast to captivate the bio lady's heart! Janie

UPDATE:  Hi Everyone. It's been a while since we last chatted so I thought I would flip back through my diary and share with you some of the things that make me so special. You can likely tell by looking at my face that I am a gentle, friendly girl. In my former life, I shared a home with kids who loved me dearly. I was patient and kind to them. I also had to share my pad with a cat who "interested" me but I would never dare to chase! Periodically I would "help myself" to the family pool which thrilled me as I also had other canine friends who would participate in this "pool party" with me! Kind of gives a different perspective on pool parties, huh? My lifestyle was pretty busy and hectic and this suits me just fine as I am a med/high energy kind of gal and am at my best when I have a full schedule. I hope soon I will be able to write in my dairy the following entry, "Going home at last!"

Janie is one beautiful red head who has already regained her fine female form just weeks after giving birth to multiple pups. She is a real hoot to watch when you first meet her as her tail wags round and round, her hips start swingin" and a swayin" and then her whole body just quivers with delight! To say Janie is friendly is an understatement. Janie is a smart girl who is great on a leash and can't help but bring a smile to your face.

My name is Dozier and there has been a lot of chatter at the shelter that I am a "statue dog" of sorts. Couldn't quite figure this one out til I read on line that I had been caught over and over hiding in my igloo sitting perfectly still like a statue as people paused at my kennel. Must say, my feelings were a bit hurt as I have so much more to offer than a stiff old statue. To prove my point, I came racing out of my kennel this afternoon as the glamour shot lady headed my way. Now, don't I look distinguished and handsome? I am still working up the nerve to head out for a walk but can see it in my future. I took the time today to smell and rub my nose on the photographer's hand and something tells me she will be back.....and soon! As she left me today, I let out some very masculine, deep barks to thank her for taking the time to notice me. I will keep working on my bedside manner so check back in for more updates.

BlueBelle is my name and Blues is NOT what I sing! As you may have heard I have been in quaranteen for two whole years. Yep, that equates to 14 dogs years. Unbelieveable, huh? Seems that I was caught mixing with the wrong crowd of bully dogs and I was found guilty by association. My "case" took over a year to get to court and then once I was free to go, I waited over 3 months for my person to come and get me. Needless to say, that day never came however my friends at the shelter spoke up for me, sprung me loose and now I am very eager to get on my with life! Me Blue?? No way! I have wasted too much time already and am so thankful to be able to start things anew. Currently, the shelter staff love me so much that they have granted me free reign of the facility. What that reallly means is that I can run around at free will and meet and greet the public, other dogs and cats. I hang close to the office to maximize my petting sessions and to allow people to tell me how sweet and well behaved I am. I am a pretty easy going middle aged girl hoping to find that perfect lap to curl up in and call my own. This sweet young thing has been in quarantine for TWO years!! That's 14 dog years--It was a case of guilt by association; she had some shady bulldog friends and was caught with them. She's really ready to make up for those 2 lost years! These pics don't do this sweetie justice.  Heartworm positive..

Carrie

The coolest things happened to me yesterday. I was quietly adjusting to my new kennel and minding my own business when this other cute gal with jet black hair on her head came over to take me for a walk. You won't believe it, BUT her name too was Carrie. My whole body quivered with excitement when I realized our connection. Let me tell you I was on extra special behavior for my new kindred spirit as I wanted to totally impress and awe her with my walking skills, good doggy socialization skills and overall sweet disposition. I think my friend Carrie gave me an A+ in my final report for Petfinder. She kept kept saying such kind words like, "This has to have been someone's pet," " Carrie acts like a dog who doesn't know she's at a shelter," and "If I didn't already have a dog, she would be coming home with me." I sure hope the right person reads about me because I know I have what it takes to be the perfect pet. Just ask Carrie.

Dexter

Male neutered 10 month old boxer mix puppy needs RESCUE ASAP
LOVES people, great with kids - lots of energy!  Not cat aggressive.  Big dog - 65 lbs or so

Mikey

Hi! It really is true that I "like it!" You know the old cereal commerical where Mikey likes nothing? Well, there is almost nothing that I don't like. I like cats for instance, other dogs, a good back scratch, a chance to stetch my legs and a person to love me! I am a younger guy with still a trace of puppy fun and love pulsing through my veins. I am a little nervous here at the shelter but hey, I only came in via animal control a few days ago so I suppose with time I will learn to adjust. While I wait to hear about my new home, I will continue along my track of making new friends and sharing my upbeat, sweet personality with everyone I can!

 Dudley

The photo gal went wild over me yesterday.  Can't say I blame her as I am a great poser and an even better companion.   As we headed out for our walk (and might I add I delighted her with my "limp leash approach"), she kept commenting that it looked like I was prancing.   I do have a cool gait and my tail swings high and proud as I make my rounds.   I am a very happy, calm, super friendly guy who is content hanging out with other dogs and cats.  By days end,  my new friend stopped back by my kennel to say goodbye and to let me know that I was her "pick up the day."  This brought a huge smile to my face and made my day.   #3408   10/28/09   AC

Alia

Alia was adopted from the shelter last year. After adopting her, they found out she was preggo. She had her pups and was spayed later. They are now moving and are going to have to rent a place because they haven't sold their house...Anyway, Alia needs a new home. She was hw neg at the time of adoption. We can retest. I'm sure she's still neg, but we'll make sure.

Asia

Looking for a party girl? Well, look no further. I am always ready to meet and greet and have been described as a happy, delightful young lady. Although I have an exotic sounding name, I am really more of a down to earth girl who simply loves having a good time. I am a calm, patient girl who is super with other dogs.

Monk

It's me Monk. Bet you have heard what a super calm, friendly guy I am. With a name like Monk, you might be inclined to think I keep to myself and prefer a solitary lifestyle. Truth be known, I love social interaction and am a real meeter/greeter fellow. I am a larger guy (you can't help but love all 51lbs of me!) with a huge deep purple tongue. I am great on a leash, very hugeable and easy going.

Gracie

#3536-Gracie showed up as a stray some months back. She was emaciated, covered with fleas, had just had puppies and wouldn't even eat if anyone was watching. She is now a shy but friendly, loving dog and needs a home of her own.

Mother Dog  "Sugar Mama"

Gorgeous caramel brown, boxer mix dog. Approximately 2 or 3 years old and around 40 pounds. Docked tail. Very sweet and very caring to her pups. Rescued out of the road with 8 puppies in tow. She is gentle and had no problems with other dogs. Is very friendly and really good with kids.

The puppies have been vaccinated and dewormed.

Male Lab Mix 1 – “Oreo”

Big, strong black lab mix with white spotted socks on his feet. Around 40 pounds. Has long black tail with white on chest and neck. He’s a big baby and loves to be petted and given attention. He gets along well with the other pups and is very good with children. We estimate that he is about 18 weeks old.

Male Lab Mix 3 – “Bandit”

Small black lab mix. Around 30 pounds. Has a band of white on top of his neck, some on his chest and on the tip of his tail. Very petite and sweet face. Once you meet him, you will fall in love. He has a wonderful personality and just wants to please everyone and cuddle with you. Gets along great with the other dogs and kids. Is a little more timid than the other pups, but eventually warms up to you.

Female Lab Mix – “Midnight”

Beautiful, small, light black lab mix with docked tail. Around 30 pounds. She is a very sweet and loving dog. She loves backrubs and cuddling and is overjoyed with any affection she gets. She is playful and great with the other pups. She is also very good with our children.

Mimi

Mimi was brought into DCHS by animal control - she is a gorgeous little golden retriever mix - She is shy around people she has not come to know yet, but will warm up to you fairly quickly. Mimi has been favoring her right front leg and an xray showed she was shot in the elbow, probably a year or so ago - no wonder this poor girl doesn't trust everyone as soon as she first meets them! Noahs Arks Rescue has graciously agreed to have her leg treated --

Please read this article written by a vet. Especially read the section about alternative treatment!  It gives a comprehensive  summary of current treatment options for HEARTWORM infection, and finally it states that heartworms live for about TWO YEARS - not 5-6 or forever as many tell us. And hell why should a worm live for 5 years???  I would want to know their secret to longevity!

A young dog  who does not yet have a huge load of adult heartworms (like the dissected heart you sometimes see in veterinary waiting rooms), can safely be treated with Ivermectin (like HeartGuard) or others like Sentinel. No new generations, and the adults die of old age in 1-2 years depending on how old they are at the start of the Ivermectin treatment. Ivermectin is available in any Agricultural/Horse Feed Store as a paste for horses and can safely be given in tiny amounts.

Carlita -plott hound female

Carlita was hit by a car - still recovering from her leg surgery - not placing much weight on her pinned back leg, but according to vet is to be expected at this stage. hw negative.

Cricket

Update:

Cricket has blossomed into a gorgeous adult brindled boxer mix. She really loves using those front feet for boxing too! Her tail has continued to heal - it has been a slow and painful process for both Cricket and her loving foster mom. Throughout all the daily debrideing, Cricket has maintained a sweet and gentle demeanor. She truly is a lovebug who desires nothing more than being the center of your world!
Unfortunately Cricket's back hip has started deteriorating -- possibly due to an old injury from a car accident? - she will be evaluated by veterinarians through the sponsorship of Noahs Ark Rescue -

This is Cricket. She is a beautiful Plott Hound mix that arrived with a horrendous injury. Part of the skin was torn from her tail and the rest of the tail had gangrene. Apparently, this was an old injury that had not been taken care of. There is no way to imagine the pain this poor girl went through. We have raised the money and had as much of her tail removed as possible in order to prevent the gangrene from spreading. The vet even discussed how sweet she was, even as she was being examined and had to have obviously been
in immense pain.  She is recovering in a local foster home.  Please save her!!

Tom Cruise thought he had it made in the shade - a home somewhere with someone that seemed to care for him... Then one day when he was around 8 months old, he went on a car ride and was deposited in the middle of nowhere with instructions that "he could find plenty to eat out there" in the cropfields... Problem is, Tom was accustomed to people and was frightened out in the thousands of acres of cropfields and he did not like going hungry every night. He soon found his way to a house with folks that loved animals, but they had lots of dogs that weren't too fond of stray kitties.... Tom survived his encounter with nine dogs only because it was a Sunday and the family was home to intervene when the dogs began to attack him. Now Tom is in one of the outdoor kitty habitats at the shelter, and while safe and healthy, is very upset at this turn of events. He has seen enough adventure to last him 8 more of his kitty lives (1 was used up with the 9 doggies...), and he is desperately seeking a safe home where he will be loved and treasured for the rest of his long life.
