Word is circulating that the BOU has split Caspian and American
Herring Gull from Herring Gull. This follows publication of the
BOURC's Taxonomic Sub-committee's report `Taxonomic recommendations
for British birds: Fourth report' which can be viewed at
http://www.blackwell-synergy.com/doi/pdf/10.1111/j.1474-
919X.2007.00758.x.
This report makes formal recommendations in respect of the British
List. These recommendations to not take effect until formally adopted
and published by BOURC.
BOURC will publish those items to be adopted from these
recommendations in its next report (no. 36) due in January 2008.
Changes to the British List will continue to be formally announced by
the BOU on birding egroups, etc, as and when these changes are agreed
and/or become effective.
