Hi all,
Unfotunately my oldest female pig Gillian died this morning.
The strange thing is, I don't understand why.
A few months ago she started to lose her fur on her back, then it
spread right up her back towards her head. And it was just coming
off in little clumps with this gooey stuff attatched to it ( it may
have been her skin it was really hard to tell).
About a week ago she lost her appetite and was just lying in her cage.
About 3 days ago I noticed she stopped drinking too and she was losing
weight. The next night I noticed spots of blood in her cage on some
of the wood chips, it was coming from her bum area but wasn't really
that bad and then last night I was trying to force some water into her
but she just shook and moaned and her heart was beating out her body
and she was bleeding more and I knew she wasn't going to come out of
this. When I woke up this morning she had just passed because her
belly was still a little warm.
I thought I would share this with everyone and see if this has
happened to anyone elses pigs before and if they know what it is and
how to avoid it ever happening again. I have two other pigs and I don't
want the same thing to happen to them. This is the first time I have
lost a pet and it is pretty hard, I am defenitely an animal lover :)
I also feel a little guilty because maybe I did something wrong or
maybe I could have helped her somehow.
