Hi, nice to see you back here.
I am David, I was the one who had Spark and Twinkle. The pictures are
still in the album. I bought them in the fall of 2001

They are all no longer with us, the last one died last week, but they
all lived fairly long. Spark was 4 1/2, Twinkle was around 3 1/2 and
the one baby I kept made it past 4.

I am married now and even though it's hard when you lose a piggie, I
told my wife I am a piggie-person. We'll most likely buy more soon, as
we have a very big homemade cage.

All-in-all, Spark and Twinkle had 8 babies in three-different litters.
I kept one from the first litter. She was a female and I named her
Icycle. Her name latr became Weezie and she used to weeze a lot.

We had her put down last Thursday, as she had stopped eating and was
severely bloated. Spark decided on his own that, as did Twinkle.

We are looking forward to taking some more into our home.

Take care,
David

hi

I live in UK England, and I get my hay from a local hardware store.
We also have lots of farms nearby, so when I have room for one, I get
a whole bale, which is so much better value. I normally pay £1.25 for
a bag at the hardware store. You can get a whole bale for £2.50 to £3
and it would make up 20 bags, so the hardware store is making a good
profit. Once I sort my shed storage, I will start getting bales again.

Take Care and keep posting.

Hi

They have there hutch they can go in and out of inside their
enclosure. Also lots of hay inside their hutch. Also I put a Large
shade over the enclosure if it is a hot day, which we haven't had
many of yet this year. If raining I put a plastic cover over. The
enclosure I have is just a temporary one. I have found some avairy
panels I am going to buy (when I have the money) hopefully soon and
then I will make them a better more permanant one. It will be 9ft
by 6ft and 6ft high. I will cover the top with panels also. I will
cover half the top with panels and half the top with wood covered in
roof felt. They will still have their hutch inside, so they can go
in and out. I am looking forward to some nice sunny days, watching
them run around. They already enjoy running around in their
temporary one. The first day they had it, they stayed inside their
hutch mainly, but within a day or two they spent more time outside.
Now they are outside nearly all the time. My children keep dropping
grass into them, which of course they love. They are truely happier
guineas. One is due to give birth any day now.

Take care and keep posting.

Hi

Me again, My guineas have now been moved to an outdoor enclosure, they
had been running around a shed for the winter. There are 10 girls all
running around together. I have just one male, who always has one
girlfriend, he lives in a hutch with his lastest skirt. The enclosure
they are in, is just a temporary one, I am going to be building a
proper one, when I do, I will partition a part for the love birds.

Anyway if any of you have interesting info or chat about enclosures or
anything to do with guineas, then post a message.

Hi,

I have just launched a pet memorial website
http://www.apetcemetery.com to help people deal with the loss of
their beloved pets.

The site has many free facilities including a pet poems and stories
section, eSympathy cards to send to a friend / family member if a
pet has recently passed on, and a pet loss forum where people can
discuss pet issues and share their grief.

You can also view memorials of pets, and add your own memorial for a
small fee. The charge is in there to cover the running costs of the
website, and we will be donating a portion of any profits to animal
charities, and we will be investing in promoting and improving the
site

As this is a new site and we believe it to be the best on the net,
we are offering half price memorials until the 31st January 2005.

Take Care

Hi everyone!
Problems yet again...
the day after I lost my dear piggie Gidget, I was playing with my remaining two,
and noticed that Gella (her daughter and cage mate) seems to have the same
problem that Gidget had.
Its not as bad as Gidget though...she's still fat, but she's not breathing right
(sounds like she needs to blow her nose..lol) she has a few little nose snots,
and she's quite lethargic. She's also not eating her regular food, or drinking.
She does eat vegetables - and boy does she eat them, and she does take the
vitamin c formula that I had mixed up for her (squeezed oranges, grapes, and a
crushed up vit. c tablet), I'm also syringing her some fresh water as well as
the vit c. I called the vet as soon as I noticed her breathing, and he told me
to put her on the same thing that Gidget was on - Baytril. Thats the generic
name for it, I can't remember the real one right now, but it IS one of the few
safe antibiotics.
She's been on this for 5 days now, and there's really no big changes - she a bit
brighter, but she seems to be loosing weight now as well...
Does anyone have ANY suggestiong?????

I have to get my baby through this - I can't stand to loose a third pet in such
a short time....

Hello all
I miss the old group as well, and would love it if we could all get together
for a chat...
Unfortunatly this message comes with bad news...
I'm sure you all remember Gella...the little baby pig that almost was lost
to me (her mum stopped nursing because her milk was dried up), well the mum
(Gidget) passed away yesterday...
She was taken to the vet monday because her breathing sounded like griding
teeth and because she had lost so much weight she had gone to bones. The vet
said that there isn't much that can be done for respitory problems in pigs,
but put her on an antibotic to give her a fighting chance. She was looking
up for a while, and was even eating alot of pured carrots, vitamin C, and
food on friday...but saturday while i was at work, my parents were looking
after the little thing, and she stopped eating, and drinking, and they
couldn't get her antibotic in her...she passed away in the afternoon.
Unfortunatly this isn't the only bad news that I've recieved - this along
with my poor old dog of 12 years (he was 14 years old) passing on thursday,
plus someone breaking into my car on that same day...well, this hasn't been
the easiest of weeks...

On the up side, Gella is a HUGE pig (and a little bit too fat...) and Gollum
is doing well too. I'm housing my boyfriends newest edition while he goes
out of town for xmas - her name is Peanut...I'll have to send in a picture!

Gollum and Gella (Gidget's mate and daughter respectivly) seem to be
different since she passed...
Has anyone ever noticed that their pigs know when something like this
happens? My boyfriends male also made odd noises when I picked up after I
she had died...
Has anyone else had anything like this happen?
Also, with pnemonia in pigs, is this contagious, and should I be concerned
for my other 2 pigs health??

Hope to talk to everyone soon, but I must go...

Nancy

Hi

It had been a long time since we had a Chat, we use to have them
quite regular, What with my fourth baby arriving etc etc, I found it
hard to keep the group going so much, I use to call in every day and
reply to every message. Anyway my fourth child is 15 and a half
months now. It would be nice if some of use could get together for a
live chat and update each other on our piggies and lifes, we had many
regular ladys and men popping in and we got to know each other quite
well, so it would be lovely to hear how you all are doing. So if
some of you could call in and suggest a good time, remember Englands
time is about eight to ten hours diferent then america. I will
double check on the world clock. Any suggestions would be great, all
I can see if there is enough members for a chat, well any amount
would be enough, as long as we can fit in a time. Anyway I shall
check in daily for suggested times and try and sort out something
which suits everyone, please put all the times which would be
suitable for you and where you live, so I can check with the world
clock.

thanks

I,m new to this group. I have 8 guineas and love to sit and watch
them. They are very entertaining.I started with 2-ended up with 5.
Then I just couldn't stop. My brother helped me build a (condo) for
my little beauties. It is six feet tall. There are four cages each
being two feet deep by four feet long. The sides are plexiglass and
the front is plexiglass with closet racking to hang things on like
hay baskets and water bottles. I should have a new litter the first
week of January. My little TOUPEE is expecting by SNIFFER.
My originals are Blackfoot (boar) and Cookie (sow. They gave me
toupoee,(sow) stewart(boar) and two-face (sow). Then I had to add
sniffer (boar) and snowflake (sow). Snowflake is still tiny. She is
my only red-eye. My alst adoption was whirley. She is v e r y large.
I know she was at the pet store for at least two weeks sitting in the
draft from the open door. I just couldn't take it anymore, as well as
just knowing her original family had had to give her up for some
reason. SOOOO. here she will have a companion family instead of a
lonely cage at the pet store. I will try to set up pictures.(When I
figure out how to do it. I am webcam iliterate.

hi

so sorry to hear about your loss, also sorry I did not reply sooner,
I would love this group to get as active as it use to be, with daily
messages etc, however when I had my fourth child, I did not come in
so much and then others also stopped, then when I tried to get it
going again, I figured people had gone over to another group which
was more regular. I remember you when you first joined, I am sorry
again for your loss, it is difficult, I have had a few die suddenly,
normally females from toximia (spelling probably wrong). I think If I
had one go like yours had gone I would have taken them to the vet and
then at least you would know what it was and if it was catching etc.
Anyway let me know if you found out what it was, also if you have
added any more piggies to your collection. I have just five now,
when I started this group I had around 25, they did not all die, some
died, but most just went to be rehomed. I also have five babies
which will be going for new homes soon. My tri-colour abby "Abigail"
had five lovely babies around bomb fire night, so they are around 7
weeks old now, she did really well to raise five, I will need to
breed her again soon for the last time, as she is nearing 2 years old
and after that its not good to breed them. Anyway take care and call
in here now and again.

thanks
Eileen
Happy Christmas

Hi all,
Unfotunately my oldest female pig Gillian died this morning.
The strange thing is, I don't understand why.
A few months ago she started to lose her fur on her back, then it
spread right up her back towards her head. And it was just coming
off in little clumps with this gooey stuff attatched to it ( it may
have been her skin it was really hard to tell).
About a week ago she lost her appetite and was just lying in her cage.
About 3 days ago I noticed she stopped drinking too and she was losing
weight. The next night I noticed spots of blood in her cage on some
of the wood chips, it was coming from her bum area but wasn't really
that bad and then last night I was trying to force some water into her
but she just shook and moaned and her heart was beating out her body
and she was bleeding more and I knew she wasn't going to come out of
this. When I woke up this morning she had just passed because her
belly was still a little warm.
I thought I would share this with everyone and see if this has
happened to anyone elses pigs before and if they know what it is and
how to avoid it ever happening again. I have two other pigs and I don't
want the same thing to happen to them. This is the first time I have
lost a pet and it is pretty hard, I am defenitely an animal lover :)
I also feel a little guilty because maybe I did something wrong or
maybe I could have helped her somehow.
So if anyone can help please do!
Thanks
Take care
Heather

hi everyone

I hope you are all well, I am so so sorry I have not been in for a
while, life is so so hectic with the four little ones (children)
I only have five guinea pigs now, four females and a male, I do have
three babies, but they will be going soon, aahhhh.
I have also got two little bunnies, they are cross dutch and lop.
They are only 9 weeks old, but growing so fast. They live in a
different hutch to the guineas. Anyway I hope you and your pigs are
keeping well and it would be nice to hear from some of you.
Take Care

I just got a new guinea pig (Zorro) he's three-week old and I have
never had such a young one before. Any tips or suggestions? Is there
anything that needs to be done differently than with an adult?
