FW: (PK) Flood lasting severe impact in Pakistan   Message List
Reply Message #18949 of 21762 |
Dear All,

I hope that this email finds you in best of your health and faith.

You may be aware of the the recent flood situation in Pakistan. This is the
worst ever flood in the history of Pakistan and have affected about 12
million people up till now. The floods started with the sudden rains in
Khayber Pakhtoonkhwa province and caused the immediate flooding within 24
hours of the rains. Due to the sudden onset of the rains, no early warnings
could be given to the people and flood affected most of the province's areas
very badly. In continuation of this, the Punjab province is also badly
affected. Mianwali, Bhakkar, Layyah, Dera Ghazi Khan, Muzaffar Garh, Rajan
Pur and Rahim Yar Khan districts have been badly affected whereas the flood
have lasted severe impact of humans, animals, agriculture and
infra-structure. The flood have now started to last its impact in Sindh
province also.

The affected areas of the Punjab has higher population of the animals who
are affected from the flood. Still, there is no exact idea of how many
animals have died due to the flood, but the survived animals are facing
severe challenges including health and feed. The post flood situation may
cause the outbreak of HS which will be very rapid to cause high rates of
mortality. Since, land has been fully flooded, there is no fodder available
for the animals, and animals are quite hungry.

In the above situation, within our capacity, we have sent out 25 volunteer
vets and vet students in the form of four teams for the rescue and relief
operation in the flood affected areas of Punjab along with necessary
medicines and vaccines. One team is working in Mianwali, the others are
working in Layyah, Muzaffar Garh and Dera Ghazi Khan districts. Our major
focus is to vaccinate the animals for HS and provide treatment and relief to
the injured and sick animals. Provision of the feed to the animals is still
a major issue. We are trying to do our best within our limited resources.
Any help in this regard will be greatly appreciated.

I shall keep you updated with the latest developments.

Best Regards

Dr. Waseem Shaukat
