Dorey,
Good question! I've done a little research and it seems that the '08 edition is more up to date than any previous.
I've been using a '95 edition and just spoke with one of our members and he has a new copy and says that there are some birds listed now that are not in the other editions. Actually it's not that they have been listed it seems rather that the listing has been updated.
I find my copy to work just fine and usually use Cornnels website when I get to a point of total frustration in identification. http://www.birds.cornell.edu/AllAboutBirds
Have a great birding day and I hope someone else from the group will help you even more.

current book is the Robert Armstrong book (Guide to the Birds of Alaska) copyright
1984. I bought it a long, long time ago at a used book store in Anchorage.
I just did some looking on line for more recent copies and found the 2008 edition
for just over $20, plus the 1995 edition for about half that amount. How much
difference is there between the two books? Is it worth the price to go with the
newer edition, or is the older just as good?
Thanks,
Dorey Harman
