Hello list,
David Holmes of Melbourne Aquarium today reported sighting a large whale or whales off Wye River, west coast Victoria. The description given suggests these whales may have been blue whales.
The animals were sighted several kilometres from shore, from a cliff top position. The blows were described as being large (5m plus) and remained visible for approximately 4-5 seconds. Surface activity was also noticed but due to the absence of binoculars no details are available.
Also sighted on the same day at the same location was a small pod of common dolphins close to shore.
Regards,
David
