As expected for this time of year, killer whale sightings have increased around south eastern Australia.
A pod of killer whales were sighted off Jervis Bay two weeks ago and in the past week, two reports with accompanying images were received from King Island, north west Tasmania and from Westernport Bay in Victoria.
Little is known about killer whales in Australian waters but in recent years sighting reports and images contributed by the public, tour operators and the commercial fishing industry have helped to slowly build a picture of killer whale movements, particularly around the south eastern region of Australia.
Contributions of any sightings information and/or photos (new or old) would be greatly appreciated and can made to the Australian Killer Whale Database (formally the Southern Oceans Orca Database) using this list server or alternatively directly to myself using the details below.
