Hi all , As most know the import of bumblebees from Tasmania too the mainland has been denied, much to the dismay of veggie growers, i have never used my apis for glass house pollination before and Trevor told me how to do it last season , so a friend of mine let me have a play in one of his , i have NO experience at all , all i did was follow what Trevor told me was the basic guidelines, i used 3 hives and swapped them out every 4 days for a month , my glass house had cucumbers and tomatoes in flower, at the end Dave the owner and i worked out that the cucumbers had an increase in fruit set of 25 % and the tomatoes about 4% and he didn't have to pay people $18 an hour to hand pollinate , Why aren't our industry Reps standing up and fighting for us , all i have heard is that research
is being done into native bees , is anyone researching apis? I lost one hive during a really hot day and the other two are not likely to bring a honey crop in any time soon ,but as i said i have No idea what I'm doing , interested to hear others thoughts , i am at a disadvantage as unlike other states mine does not have a pollination association , i got told to ring the one in W.A , I hope everyone has a bumper season ,late rain has really brought the flow on here in S.A , all the best Jason.
