Hello Trish,

>> How irresponsible not to have any of the identifications on her. <<

I can't comment on that as I have no idea of the circumstances, why that
should be or even how long the current owners have had the bitch.
Unfortunately, the telephone number given for the Dog Warden as included on
Willow's DogLost poster only reaches an answerphone with a very crackly message
stating that it is Wokingham Borough Council Public Section Division and
that the offices are closed for the weekend! I'll keep trying to see if
any more news or information is forthcoming.

There may have been an opportunity for folk being able to volunteer and
help search the area close to where Willow went missing today or tomorrow if
only Willow's owners could be contacted directly.

What a shame :-(

Jude

Hi Jude

I will ask a few people I know in that area to keep an eye open.  How
irresponsible not to have any of the identifications on her.

Hello
Whilst I'm glad to hear Ella's improved I think that you have been lucky the
remedy has worked. This is certainly not that I'm against homeopathy, in fact
just the opposite and have been using it for years on myself and the dogs and
even seen a professional veterinary homeopath at times. All homeopathic
medicines should be given away from food for best effect and should never be
handled in the process, I.e. tip one/ or however many tablets into the lid or
onto a spoon and without personally touching it then straight down the dogs
mouth. this should be at least 1 hour before or an hour after food.
Lots of other alternative ideas to try if you need them, including changing diet
, using a magical homeopathic cream that is the only thing that works on my
friends eczema, trying liquidized spinach which is magical but its the
preparation and particularly the quantities that are important so as not to
overdose. just give me a ring on 01142882930 if the itching returns and you
want a chat on options

   Hi everybody

Thought I'd just report on progress with Ella's skin allergy. On the advice of
a friend who had had the same problem with her labrador, I bought some
homeopathic sulphur 6C tablets. They were more like large grains of sand than
tablets but anyway we put 6 of these in Ella's food twice a day for 2 weeks.
After a few days we noticed she had virtually stopped scratching and now after 2
weeks she has stopped scratching altogether. All we need now is for the hair to
grow back, but I'm sure it will in time. Apparently during the war soldiers were
living in such poor conditions that they had problems with their skin and
sulphur powder was used to treat them.

I hope this is useful to anyone else whose dog has a problem.

   Bye for now.

   Maureen and Ella

*B *lood Clots/Stroke - They Now Have a Fourth Indicator, the Tongue
[image: 358516FCC03D422F84F70BE870F76824@DELL]

I will continue to forward this every time it comes around! *

STROKE: *Remember the 1st Three Letters.... S.T.R. *

My nurse friend sent this and encouraged me to post it and spread the word.
I agree.

If everyone can remember something this simple, we could save some folks.
Seriously..

Please read:

STROKE IDENTIFICATION:

During a BBQ, a friend stumbled and took a little fall - she assured
everyone that she was fine (they offered to call paramedics) .she said she
had just tripped over a brick because of her new shoes.

They got her cleaned up and got her a new plate of food. While she appeared
a bit shaken up, Ingrid went about enjoying herself the rest of the evening

Ingrid's husband called later telling everyone that his wife had been taken
to the hospital - (at 6:00 pm Ingrid passed away.) She had suffered a stroke
at the BBQ. Had they known how to identify the signs of a stroke, perhaps
Ingrid would be with us today. Some don't die. they end up in a helpless,
hopeless condition instead.

It only takes a minute to read this...

A neurologist says that if he can get to a stroke victim within 3 hours he
can totally reverse the effects of a stroke... totally . He said the trick
was getting a stroke recognized, diagnosed, and then getting the patient
medically cared for within 3 hours, which is tough.

RECOGNIZING A STROKE

Thank God for the sense to remember the '3' steps, STR . Read and Learn!

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify. Unfortunately, the
lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke victim may suffer severe brain
damage when people nearby fail to recognize the symptoms of a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three simple
questions:

S * *Ask the individual to SMILE. *
T * *Ask the person to TALK and SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE (Coherently)(i.e. It
is sunny out today.) *
R ** Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

If he or she has trouble with ANY ONE of these tasks, call emergency number
*immediately *and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

New Sign of a Stroke -------- Stick out Your Tongue

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick' out his
tongue.. If the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other , that
is also an indication of a stroke.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to 10 people;
you can bet that at least one life will be saved. *

I have done my part. Will you? *

What a patient dog, just lovely. All he would need to do is open his
mouth and the bird would be gone, it's just wonderful to see them.

Monty is lovely with the boy's pet rats and will sniff noses with them but
if I put one on the floor, he runs a mile!! Chester as usual is neither
impressed or otherwise by them. He takes a look and goes back to sleep, lol

Hello Sue,

Paw chewing is an occupation that can begin quite innocently but can very
easily progress into a 'habit' or compulsive behaviour. It can be very
comforting for a dog to lick or chew paws - rather like a child sucking a
thumb.

In bitches it is often associated with the hormone cycle (most commonly
occurring a few weeks after the bitch has been in season) or a degree of
hormone imbalance. In such cases diversion techniques such as applying
something pungent (such as Vick Vapour Rub ) or distasteful (a proprietary
anti-chew preparation) to the area a few times a day can help reduce the
problem.

Jude

HI Joyce

They really are a pain these warnings. I have sent them before to warn
people. You think you are doing something thoughtful by letting people know
but in reality it is, in itself, a hoax.

Someone told me about Snopes recently, it really does tell you whether
they are hoax's or not???
I'll be in touch soon.

Just a postscript to George's message. We have had Annie's ears and paws
checked by the vet and there is no evidence at all of mites. I know that she
has always been in the habit of biting her paws and just wondered if the Thornit
powder would stop her as I am worried that she will make them sore.

Joyce,

I'll let you fwd this back to the rest of your contacts... but this
really is a hoax. Amusingly they've included the name of the site that
exposes Internet hoaxes, Snopes, who have a long article (including a
copy of the message you passed on) about this message; the parts that
are real (there are viruses out there, who knew!) and the parts that are
false ("This is worst one in the world ever").

Here's a link to the article, it's well worth reading if only to
understand just how many times and how often these things come around
(and to understand where this particular one came from).

*HUGE VIRUS COMING ! PLEASE READ & FORWARD !

Hi All,

I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked Snopes, and it is for real. Get this E-mail message sent around
to all your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG YOUR FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with
an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD FROM HALLMARK,'regardless of who sent it
to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole
hard disc C drive of your computer.

This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address on
his/her contact list. That is the reason why you need to send this e-mail
to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to
receive the virus and open it!

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even if it is sent to you by a
friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately. This is the
worst virus announced by CNN.

It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever.
This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet
for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the
Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS.
REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US*

Hello Everyone,

Recently I bought some THORNIT CANKER POWDER as Annie has been scratching at her
ears a lot.

I notice in the instructions that it can also be used on a dog's paws when they
continually lick and suck their paws due to the presence of mites. Annie does
this also and I wondered if I put this powder on her paws and she was to
continue to lick them and so ingest the powder whether it would have any adverse
effect on her.

Has anyone any experience of putting this powder on their dog's paws and if so
what was the result?

Regards

George & Sue Evans

Watchdog backs off over BBC's pedigree breeders exposé

Three complaints against Pedigree Dogs Exposed were to have been upheld

An investigation into a BBC documentary that exposed the poor health of pedigree
dogs descended into farce yesterday after the broadcaster forced Ofcom to
postpone publication of its report.

The watchdog had been ready yesterday to uphold three complaints against
Pedigree Dogs Exposed, ruling that the programme had treated the Kennel Club and
two dog breeders unfairly.

However, the BBC's lawyers persuaded the regulator to cancel publication of the
ruling hours before it was to have been made public because they claimed that
the corporation had been misled about the nature of the inquiry. They said that
the watchdog had wrongly refused to consider large parts of its evidence.

The row had sparked so much controversy that the BBC dropped its coverage of
Crufts.

The Kennel Club said yesterday that it had lost confidence in the watchdog.
Ronnie Irving, chairman of the Kennel Club, said that he was bewildered and
aggrieved that the BBC had intervened. He added: "We have to admit a loss of
confidence in the Ofcom complaints process."

The Times understands that Ofcom upheld 3 out of 19 complaints against the
programme, produced by Passionate Productions and broadcast in August last year,
but has not quashed its central allegation that breeding techniques have led to
puppies being born with disease and deformities.

The regulator is understood to have concluded that the programme was unfair to
the Kennel Club when it likened the body's stance on pedigree breeding to the
eugenics movement and the Nazis. It also upheld complaints made by breeders of
Rhodesian ridgebacks and cavalier King Charles spaniels that they, too, had not
been treated fairly.

Relationships between the Kennel Club, the BBC and Ofcom disintegrated after a
bitter briefing war. When Ofcom notified all parties of its provisional findings
this summer, a leak appeared on the Dog World magazine website suggesting
vindication for the Kennel Club. This was deleted after the watchdog complained
that its confidentiality rules had been breached.

The BBC is understood to believe that Ofcom asked "misleading" questions when it
began its investigation, and sources said that the corporation became aware of
the path the watchdog was following only when it released provisional findings.
The BBC submitted new evidence but claims that Ofcom refused to consider it.

The ruling is understood to require the BBC to broadcast a summary of Ofcom's
findings, which the corporation is desperate to avoid.

Sources also claimed that Kath Worrall, chairwoman of Ofcom's Fairness
Committee, which heard the complaints, had links to the dog-breeding world after
acting as a show judge. Mrs Worrall said she had not sat as a judge since 1976.

The allegations of links between Nazism and the Kennel Club resurfaced yesterday
after it emerged that Chris Kisko, the husband of Caroline Kisko, the secretary
of the organisation, is on the list of alleged British National Party members
published on the internet last month. Mr Kisko refused to comment, but Mr Irving
said: "Mrs Kisko is not and has never been a member of the BNP."
