Re: [blind-deaf-dogs] New Member- Kris with deaf dog, Rain

HI Kris,
Welcome.  I have a deaf and blind double-merle Sheltie.  She can perform
commands by touch.

Hi everyone!

I just joined this group as I am looking for support as seen as I just adopted a
deaf border collie named Rain.  She is 15 mos old and very active.  I live in
southern Minnesota out in the country and I have a large fenced in back yard.  I
will be getting a tag for her today that says "Rain is deaf.  Please hold and
call..."  Any other beginner suggestions?  I did pick up a pocket sign language
book also to give me ideas for signs.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you all!

Kris and Rain

Hi Kris!  Congratulations on your new family member!   The first thing to remember is that Rain is a dog first, so she'll do typical "dog things" just like a...

I would also like to add that dogs pay attention to our body language a lot more than we realize. Even a hearing dog is more attuned to our movements than we...
