Twirlin Merlin in San Diego   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #9063 of 9597 |
Hi,
We are new to this group. Merlin is our double merle Sheltie that was born deaf
and blind and dumped at animal control in Riverside County last summer when he
was approximately 5 months old. He is the most amazing and happiest little
fellow. He is now 1.5 yrs old and is housetrained, he has mind mapped the
house, does stairs, walks on a leash, sits and/ or lays down on command and
loves to snuggle. He has running fits to burn off energy like most Shelties,
but his are in circles. He is so normal that we forget he is blind and deaf.
It is amazing how well adjusted they can be when they are born without certain
senses and how the other senses compensate. Merlin loves the air and can sense
any changes in the air pressure or movement. He has small eye buds that never
fully developed but he still uses his eyelashes to sense air. This is our 5th
double merle Sheltie that we have trained. We volunteer with Southland Sheltie
Rescue in San Diego but Merlin is our forever family member. We look forward to
learning and sharing information with the group.
Sincerely,
Sarai

Wow, she needs to be seen by a good Veterinarian right away to figure out the coordination, eating, and biting issues. These are not normal for a healthy dog...
