A little slow in some things, but it's done now. SO I'll only moderate
the first message to eliminate spam then switch over to the messages
posting straight away, so then you can have a real time to and fro
conversation if you want. I thought that's what I set up in the first
place and I've been confused about why I had to keep moderating each
message.

Hi Wendy!!! So nice to meet you :o)

This was a brilliant idea of yours!!!! Wahhhoooooooooo! hehehe

I was very similiar to you, from the start was taught the traditional way, very much via dressage and controlling. From the start, I always 'fought' the dominance and 'control' issue, for some reason (and I now believe it was my first ever horse Ben telling me this!) I never believed in bits and force. I always believed there was a different 'way' to build a partnership with your horse, and this was through caring as the link. Of course, in the ealry days when I shared this, I was shot down :o) so I kept my thoughts to myself. I always believed that I could ride a horse with having a connection, and only with my seat, legs etc, not having to use something in their mouth (this is only my opinion everyone!)..

So I journeyed exploring different techniques, strategies etc, and took 'bits' that I thought were useful and 'fitted'.

Bobbies diaries is like my 'saviour'!! When I first began to read his journal, I jumped around my room ' yes! yes!' hehehehe

I cant wait to learn more :o)

Hi everyone,

As it was me who begged Jenny to set up this group I thought I had
better say a few words.

I just wanted to connect with everyone who was a part of Bobby's
way, hear what they find works for them, share stories, share good
times and bad. And most importantly learn more.

I will tell you a bit of my story – but I will try to be brief –
promise!

Since I discovered Bobby's Diaries purely by chance things have
changed dramatically in my relationship with my horse. As a rider in
the UK I went through a fairly traditional way of learning about
horses, most of it was `get the better of them or they will get the
better of you'. As a former riding instructor, through ignorance I
even taught this way! (many apologies to the horses who have
suffered as a consequence)
Eventually the reason I left teaching was I knew it wasn't the right
way, but I didn't know what was right. At that time Natural
Horsemanship was just starting to make its emergence in the UK and
over the next 15 years I researched and learnt many techniques, but
for me there was still something missing.
In the last year I was really struggling with the issue of dominance
which is prevalent with many methods both traditional and NH, all I
wanted was a horse that was willing, I didn't want any force between
us.

Discovering Bobby's Diaries was a revelation to me and the
communication is definitely the missing link I have been looking all
these years. My beautiful sensitive horse (Ember 9yr old TBxSF
Chestnut mare (I have to include the chestnut bit it is very
important to her)) has taught me more in the last two years than I
have learnt in the last 20 (though most of that was learning what
didn't work ;-p). In the last two months with Bobby's Diaries (and
Ember of course) I have learnt more than all that together.

Thanks Jen, I look forward to hearing everybody else's stories.

Wendy

Thankyou Jen :o)
That pic is with my clydie x - Iggy (the terror hehehe) (he is the chestnut one) and Noah, who was a little shire x clydesdale lad that I rescued some time back. He is blossoming now and has a new mum, is the perfect home and human for him...
He did very well to survive, I am very proud of his strength!

Hi Ulrika :o)
Soooo nice to hear from you here! I would love to live in a place where there were more horses than people hehehe...on my property here, I do have more horses than people - cause Im the only human in my home hehehe
Nellie just sounds like a young baby with her messages :o) she is probably taking in everything at a racing pace in her mind, sounds like she is very keen to learn :o)
Would that be on the right path here Jen?
My messages from Iggy (also 2yo) are one of playfullness, he is always cheeky and a larakin and wanting to play :o) he 'groans' (mentally) when we do a bit of training but I also know he pursues this cause he loves me :o)
Im only learning also Ulrika, very much an apprentice in the world of Bobbies Diaries!
cheers
Deb

Hi Jen,

Some hints - yes, the first post to the group SHOULD
be moderated by you, to sus out who and what etc...
You should also encourage a new member to introduce
themselves, so we all know who they are etc.
Some people just like to 'lurk' and learn, which is
nice, and some like to chat away hehehe Im a chatter
:o)

When people join, they have an option to 'tick' which
way they want posts, either individual or daily
digests or none at all - which means they visit the
site when they can.

Over the next day or so, I will start a file in the
photo section, and Im happy to help people if they
also wish to do this :o) what that means is that
people can go i nto the 'photo' menu on the left hand
side, click and then 'albums' come up and they click
on which one they want to peek in and we share pics of
us etc...

cheers

Hi Akashe,
WoW! How awesome is that!!
I know what you mean, I never told anyone that I
believed my horse was speaking to me :o) I think more
so cause I KNEW they wouldnt believe me. Then one day,
Cynthia was over giving me a lesson and I said to her,
'you know, Im sure he is reading my mind'...it was SO
enlightening to not only share it with someone but to
be encouraged to continue to listen to him and that it
certainly was possible that he was!!
I grew from there :o)

Since I have started using Bobby's diaries in my dealings with her
she has really started talking to me, not in my head yet but with
very definate body language. (Before she used to pretty much do what
was asked without much objection but she was a horse that was mostly
in the not too sure zone ready to flip over into the oh shit zone at
the drop of a hat)
The first time I was riding her quietly, not asking a lot as she had
been pretty much out of work for the last few months (& I had a
feeling that she wasn't quite right physically but I was not quite
sure what was wrong) when she let me know she didn't want to do any
more. I asked her nicely to walk on from a halt & she pinned her
ears back, shook her head & swished her tail. She had never done
anything like that before. When I persevered & didn't listen she
used a little pig root (which was also a first although I had felt
it there just below the surface on a few occassions when I had asked
her to keep cantering when she wanted to stop)
I decided to take the hint & get off & get her body checked.
Sure enough when I got her checked out a few days later, her pelvis
was locked on the left side & her hamstrings were really tight among
other things.
I have been getting her treated for the last few weeks & just been
riding her quietly bareback in a halter with 1 rein. (something I
would never have even contemplated 6 months ago)
On friday my friend & I were playing with our horses & practising
our riding using "imagine it" when all of a sudden she did it again.
I asked her to walk on nicely & she said "NO" I asked again & she
said a more definate "NO"
I was thinking, should I be letting her dictate to me like this, is
this going to become a habit if I give her too much say in things or
does she have a legitimate reason. As these thoughts were going
through my head I happened to look at my watch & it was 2:53pm. I
had to be at school to pick my son up & Miraya was trying to tell me
what the time was. I had mentioned at the beginning of the ride I
had to be at the school at 3pm. It could be just pure coincidence
but I don't quite think so. Anyway I have a feeling that this kind
of thing will become too regular for me to have any doubts, so watch
this space for more stories.
ps. if there is anyone in auckland who would like to do a clinic,
Jenny is coming over on the 18 to 22 April. Details are on Jenny's
website.

So just to make sure... that you all know you can set it up to get no
notification by e-mail at all, you can set up to receive each
individual e-mail, (which later on may get a bit much!~)or you can get
a daily digest, one email that lets oyu see the new posts. I don't
understand the rest myself yet!

and have never joined a discussion group in my life, so if anybody
knows more than me and wants to take it on - they're welcome!!!!!And if
not, please bear with me!!
First post to the discussion group only has to be approved by me and
that's just to keep the spammers out. After that, from what I can
gather, your messages will go straight up.
At this point the group is open and listed on Yahoo. If you all think
it's better to be mprivate then I'll change it - but imagine the wonder
of someone who hasn't read the book yet coming across this site! What
might it bring them to? On the other hand, I also understand if you
feel more comfortable discussing fears and other emotional stuff
with "the family" so to speak.
Let me know.

Welcome Deb, it sounds like Cynthia is doing an amazing job down
there (or up there whichever way you're looking). There's a whole
new way of communicating coming in the clinics from now on that will
help, I suspect with your babies. I'm not being mysterious, it's
just too big to put in words and I'm a "baby" at it myself except
getting better and better every day. I'm awed at how beautiful the
combination is!
Looking forward to meeting you,
Jen

Hi Everyone!
What a fantastic idea!! Im here! YaY!

Im Deb and live on the apple isle of australia, way down the bottom -
Tasmania. Im 45yo YOUNG and work 4 days a week as a social worker.
I live on my little piece of land with my chookens, dogs x 3, and I
love and care for, 5 beautiful horses at the moment. Two of these are
looking for their new human and forever home, so I will share about
the 3 who are staying with me:
Iggy my 2yo clydesdale x tb baby boy
Kalle my 13yo purebred arabian man
Siennah my 15month old purebred arabian baby girl

I go to a 'Comfort Club' we have here, led by Cynthia Cooper...and
that is where I heard about Bobbies Diaries! The club kinda runs by
the book, most of us have it and devour it all the time hehehe I
truly believe that my horses communicate with me, and I am working on
opening my soul and mind to enable me to communicate more easily with
them.Reading..reading..practising..talking with them..

My older man, Kalle, is the one who taught me that he could
communicate with me. He showed me quite clearly one day while riding,
and has done so ever since. I have improved my communication with
him, but still cant quite hone it with the babies yet.

I talk with Kal all the time, ask him things, explain I need his help
with the little ones..he is a very kind and gentle man.

Im rambling! apologies....

Looking forward to meeting and chatting with you all :o)

cheers
Deb

I'm thrilled to hear that others are having the same kind of
communication with their horses! I've had to be careful who and how I
talked to about the amazing things that happen between me and my
horse. Most people just plain dont believe me. One woman refused to
believe that her horse knew she was on her way to the barn. That horse
would wait at the gate for her no matter what time of day it was, I
knew by the horse's behavior the owner would soon arrive. There is a
connection of the mind that happens and you dont have to be in the
same place for this to happen. I went to see a Lippizan Stallion show.
My favorite move was when the horse jumps straight up in the air,
front legs reaching forward and hind legs kicking out. I kept thinking
about this move and the fact that the trainer said that mares weren't
suitable for these 'high airs'. The next day I arrived at the barn and
turned my mare out in the arena for some play time before we got to
work. My girl knew what I'd been thinking and I'm positive she was
jealous that I was so impressed with how another horse moved. She
performed this move without any training or prompting from me! Not
once but 3 times! She practiced till she was pleased that I was in awe
and sufficiently impressed. I've never seen her do this move since.
It's going to be liberating to have others to talk to about this kind
of communication. I can't wait to learn more. I think my biggest
obstacle is forgetting to LISTEN. Having a group of like minded people
will encourage me to remember.
Thank you for inviting me,
Akashe

Hi Jenny and All,
Thanks so much for starting this discussion group. I'm sure it will
be most beneficial, being able to keep in touch with others who share
the "search for Bobby".

I'm from Tasmania and have two wonderful Connemara ponies - Santa, a
big grey gelding, and Sally, a small bay mare.

Since beginning the Bobby process, my relationship with Santa (who is
the one I ride)has just taken off in terms of good will flowing
between us. He is a really really nice boy - I did know that before,
but I really really know it now.

We are very lucky down here, because we have the most amazing teacher -
Cynthia, who is the one who got us into what some of us call,
the "Comfort Club".

The workshop and camp in April with you, is going to be just awesome!

X Linda

Ohhh Jenny,
That is just beautiful..
My week was spent connecting with my little ones a fair bit..primarily
with Iggy and we had a wonderful time together a few days back..talking
to each other and connecting..he is just awesome! We have been playing
around with bowing, and he connected with me that day and we got it
together, I was over the moon, and he was smiling :o)
Im still working on myself to connect with the babies, I have a big
connection with Kal,my older man, and its getting there in, dare I say
it, baby steps with Iggy.
This little man talked to me the first time we met..
I have enjoyed my partners this week, we have spent a lot of time just
hanging out together..which I enjoy as much as playing together.
cheers
Deb

Yesterday we finished a private clinic here at Tanjil South that
featured an amazing lady and her Friesian "soul connection" - her
horse for those of you who don't talk like that yet! This little
horse (not so little, really) had been really intimidating. He would
barge straight in on you, had had HEAPS of training costing lots of
money and the only way she could get hin to stand off her was to be
REALLY hard on him - which didn't fit with who she was, who she
wanted to be or with the relationship that she wanted with her horse.

We pretty quickly made the discovery that there was a connection with
his "oh shit I'm dead" zone and his barging. (See the electronic
Bobby's Diaries - Straight From the Horse's Mouth to You" for an
explanation of that concept. www.bookswithspirit.com/shop And nobody
learns anything in the oh shit zone except survival reactions. So we
went about establishing a place of deep comfort for this lad and then
introduced our need to have him stand off us in the "not too sure
zone" where all thinking learning takes place.

We made the discovery that most if not all of his training had taken
place in the "oh shit I'm dead zone" and that although he deeply
wanted to be close to his person and be with them, he was terribly
afraid of what would happen when he got close (whacked for barging on
top of them!) - thus he lived his life in a constant and awful fear
of humans.

We realised that Friesians had been war horses and as such had been
selected for their ability to keep going ahead through fear and even
pain (that's where the barging comes from), and for their devotion to
their person. (Lots of other characteristics too I'm sure, but these
were the ones that were particularly noticeable throughout the
clinic!)

We learned the art of having major breakthroughs by not doing very
much at all. (And that's the understatement of the year)

We learned that a HORSE'S heart can sing and almost burst with joy
too when us slow humans "get it".

We had the most amazing days in the most gentle and connected space.

That was my week, what was yours?

See the photo of Celtic Peace with Melissa in the photo album - and
he's slowing down when this photo was taken!
Thoroughbred racing is one of the biggest areas of misunderstandings
between horses and people in the horse world. And we aim to have a
positive influence on that.

I am thrilled to bits to announce that last Friday I was given my
thoroughbred racing trainers license and we're going racing Bobby's
Way. I am soo… excited!!!

Celtic Peace is filled with excitement and power and soo… ready to
go.

We had to dig really deep into my patience to establish a real deep
comfort zone for him and now he's using his body in a truly beautiful
way that will enable him to make a come back as a 10 year old
sprinter. Yes, a ten year old sprinter! It's going to knock
everyones socks off when he makes a successful come back! That's
what's going to make the industry sit up and take notice and
hopefully wonder how they can have some of that too.

HE'S teaching US how to go about it - and we listen. THAT"S going to
be the key to our success. We'll be down at the track by next Monday
I hope and find out how all the wonderful work he's been doing at
home has really been going. Thanks to Melissa who has been doing
interval work at a gallop up the six acre paddock and out in the bush
and so far we've managed to stay bare foot too.

I rehabilitated Celtic Peace a long time ago after two damaged
tendons, before he raced for the first time and then three years
later, bought him back after he broke down in Darwin for the last
time. We fell in love with him the first time he was here and went
hunting for him when he dropped out of the racing scene. We had no
idea at the time whether we were going to be able to pull off another
miracle rehabilitation from blown knees and a damaged pelvis this
time, but boy is he OK!

Eight of the ten people who helped me bring him home and now own him
(or vice versa!) are "healers" in some form or other.

We're going to have a lot of fun!
