Sherette:
I agree.
Parks doesn't have the money to have staff open and close all
year round. We have a large vandalism problem in the County Parks and Island
Lake's bathrooms were destroyed and it cost many $10,000's to make repairs notÂ
to mention park's staff time and effort to deal with the problem.
On the other hand I've proposed we have volunteers lock and
unlock the bathrooms but that has not been a proposal Parks wants to consider
right now. They are trying to just keep our parks open. When there are budget
cuts, Parks is considered discrentionary spending and they are one of the first
departments to be cut.
If you are interested in putting together a volunteer group to
lock and unlock the toliet, I've got a few names from the last work party that
are interested and I can put you in touch with Parks Staff …
thanks,
Danny

I don't think the schedule for the rest rooms is
realistic. Dog parks are used all day - every day of the year. A dogpark is
not seasonal! Sherette Main
The restrooms still need to be approved by the Kitsap
Health Department, per Dori. Once they are approved, the park staff will
handle opening, closing, and cleaning. These restrooms will follow the same
schedule as the rest of our park restrooms which are open to the public from
April through September. At the end of September, they will be
"winterized" and closed for the winter along with the rest of the
park restrooms. and
… Please
see the below about the board. We would like to have another member who
primarily uses Howe on the board.. We
are relatively painless as far as meetings go, once a year a board meeting
(an evening), and once a year a membership meeting at Bandix. Other
activities are by email and at the parks. Danny Bandix

With
the opening of Howe Farm and the closure (if only for a couple of years) of
Burley Olalla Road we hope we are not losing many of you from active
membership in the park. Your yearly membership donation is what allows
us to keep the park open and operating. Please try to renew your
membership during April so we have a working budget for the next year. A
membership renewal form is attached. At
the work day on April 4th some of us will be sporting the new
Bandix tee shirt and sweatshirt. Hopefully these will be available for
sale on that day. Tee-shirts will be $12 and sweatshirts will be
$35.00. The design is very cool and the quality of the shirts is
excellent – from the same folks who do the Tides shirts. Even
if you cannot attend the work day on the 4th in the morning, please try to
attend the membership meeting at 11:00. We need a quorum of members to
conduct business and we need to elect two members as two board members terms
are up for renewal or replacement. If you are interested in serving on
the board, please let Ginny Fitch know ASAP at ginnyfitch@... so she can add you
to the ballot. If
you do not want to continue to receive Bandix news please let us know by
responding to this e-mail so we can remove you from our lists. |
Hopefully winter is behind us and we
can begin to really enjoy our park again. With that hope in mind we
have planned a work day and our Annual Membership Meeting and membership
drive for April 4, 2009 at the park. Attached is the notice about both.
