Native Ponies of the British Isles are made up of nine traditional breeds that are indigenous to specific districts in England, Ireland, Scotland, and Wales. The breeds include; the Shetland and Highland of Scotland, the Fell and Dales of Northern England, the Welsh Mountain Pony from Wales, the Exmoor and Dartmoor from the extreme Southwest England, the New Forest from southern England, and the Connemara from Ireland. Two additional breeds have been recently added; the Eriskay, from the Scottish island of Eriskay, and the Irish Bog Pony from Ireland. Each of these ponies are unique in appearance, however, they all share similar characteristics; small in size, of great hardiness, surefootedness, intelligence, and they have the ability to feed and thrive where most other horses would starve. This list is for all breeders, owners, and other enthusiasts to share stories and experiences, ask questions, seek resources, and connect with other native pony people around the world!
