Grace,

Did you make a call to ask if you could see him or make an appointment
as this rescue has posted on its website? Or did you just show up with
the entourage you described? Had you shown up on my doorstep in the
same way, you would have received a similar greeting I assure you.
Quite bluntly and frankly, you were trespassing on private property.
Your way is simply not done. Our dogs are fostered in private homes,
we are not shelters and we don't have visiting hours nor do we
appreciate someone showing up out of the blue to take a look around.
Besides personal safety, there are a whole realm of reasons most
rescuers won't just open their door to any stranger who lands on their
stoop, regardless of why. It just isn't safe for them or the dogs
entrusted in their care. If someone makes prior appointments and
arrangements then things can be worked out; but don't show up
unannounced.

It should be obvious from the pictures given the differences in the
markings that this dog isn't/wasn't Bear. The dog did not look sick,
just young and immature which was age appropriate for the one given
him. Besides, you have/had posted Bear's microchip number. Scanning
for microchips is routine among most rescuers and if his number had
come up, then I'm sure you would have been contacted. They knew it
wasn't your dog.

You are also very wrong about the corgi community not rallying around
someone with a lost dog. I've seen example after example, time after
time where the community has become involved and helped by any means
possible. I can cite several posts from the Corgi Rescue list where CA
rescuers have doubled checked tris for you to make sure they weren't
your Bear. I would say you aren't being exactly fair to those in the
CA corgi rescue community. Furthermore, the rescuer you are railing
against now is the very one who first brought Bear to the attention of
the Corgi Rescue list.

It is very sad that Bear was stolen while sitting out at the road by
your mail box and the most likely reason was taken was to be used for
breeding by the gentleman you refused stud services to. Alienating law
enforcement, having restraining orders taken out on you, alienating
rescuers who are trying to keep an eye out for Bear, being arrested; I
think most would agree is not the most productive or constructive way
to try to get one's dog back.

If this is not my dog why would those people not at least let me see the dog???? Even to having the police go to there house? I was not wanting to bother a soul just see the dog?  I have a scanner to use but I would only have to see this dog to know if he is mine or not.  Same they could not show me the dog!  would have saved us a lot of problem.  I am planning a law suit as we speak.
If the dog is not mine why not let me see him?  What is the problem with that?  I don't think any of you would not feel the same way. After the hours and months and months of looking and finding where he was sent from San Diego to a rescue in LA by a rescue down here the trail has just followed.
The dog looks sick like Bear did once when he got sick after eating a poisoned mouse one time.  He is thin and hair looks poor.  I am not blaming them for taking the dog from San Diego.  Why would they not just let me see the dog they have?  I took the police with me and a private detective and the nice gentleman slammed the door in our faces and said get a search warrent.  That would give them plenty of time to move him again.
I am sick about all of it!  Sick of begging people to help me.  When someone else misses there pets I am sure they are not getting any assistance either.  The woman brags about 1,800 dogs she adopted out!  What are the odds that just one of mine was one of those.  How many belonged to someone that is searching for them and of course they are gone someplace that they choice and no one can find them.
I am a died in the road animal person! My animals are my life after losing my husband and to our life that him and I shared he was Captain with the San Diego Humane Society Animal Rescue so I do know somewhat about rescuing animals.  I have done my share over 25 years living out on a ranch I have helped people with there own animals for years.
Now when I try toget my own dog back I get slammed by people like you that post to me about being unfair about this.  I am not unfair I just wanted to see this dog.  If it is not my dog why not just show him to me?
If I had a dog I was not sure about I would certainly never deny someone the right to check the dog out.
The door that was slammed in my face, I heard Bear inside I am sure of it. They had live 15 or so dogs there. But I raised Bear. I whelped him and he is 7 years old and was my constant companion.  I would know him from 100 corgis that looked like him. That dog looks like Bear to a lot of different things.  Even the description of the time the person had the dog to when he ended in rescue.
To say I am sick about it I am sick of people right now.  What was the harm in seeing the dog?????
I hope every other corgi owner never has this problem! It tears your heart out one piece at a time!  I have had corgis for over 20 years and I will not quit till I find Bear and your opinion is nothing to me. I cry every morning when I wake up and know that I don't have my boy.  He is very important to me.  I can't even feed the other animals without crying because Bear always supervised that job with me!  Thank you so much for being such a kind person.

According to what you've written on the Corgi Rescue list, you knew who
took Bear and where he was located not long after he was taken. That
the local law enforcement was not helpful to you was unfortunate.

"We are onto a dog stealing affair down here."

If you are referring to the dog you've mistakenly identified as Bear,
then you are on to no such thing. Your original telling of Bear's
disappearance indicated he was taken by someone known to you at least
as an acquaintance.

Grace, how many times have you posted on the Corgi Rescue list that you knew who
took Bear and where he was? You've stated you knew that not long after he went
missing.

> We are onto a dog stealing affair down here.

You are on to nothing of the sort. Shoot, we have one in our foster program now
that
looks a heck of a lot more like Bear than does the one you've mistaken for him.
And
NO, it is not Bear; ours is only a year old and we DO have the paper trail to
prove it.

Our male corgi was stole on 12/13/06 from in front of the mail box that
day. I saw a truck pulling a horse trailer pull away but had not missed
our Bear then. Bear is 7 years old. Chip #4414072B44 and he is missed
more than we can ever say! Bear has very distinct white markings and
is show quality. Bear hates cats and is not altered so not very well
house broke either. We just want our dog back! PLEASE REMEMBER US!

Subject: Stolen Corgi-Pocatello, ID

I just received a call that a red/white, spayed female, Pembroke has
been stolen from a backyard in the vicinity of Falcon Circle North in
Pocatello, Idaho (east Idaho). This female IS microchipped. There is
no way she escaped the fence. SHE WAS STOLEN. I-15 runs straight
through the area (north/south) so she could be on her way to Montana
or Utah. As well I-86 goes east and west. We're praying she is not
on the move with someone.

Please, anyone in the area or knowing anyone in the area, please,
please help us get the message out and return this girl to her owner
who is devastated.

We're trying to alert all shelters, veterinarians and rescue groups.
Flyers are, at this very moment, are being made for posting in the
area. The police will take a report as soon as they clean up all the
car accidents.

Shelter personnel on the Idaho Rescue list, please be on the lookout
for this sweet girl. She is 2 1/2 yrs old and a bit on the large
side, very sweet, loving and trusting. If you know of other outlets
to notify, please do so and help us find her.

Permission to crosspost.

I'm on the west side of Idaho so can do no more than alert the
internet.

Some neighbor girls brought us a scraggly, muddy red & white Pem pup
they found a couple streets over because they thought it might be our
full-grown Pem. He's a very nice dog, well-fed & cared for. We had
some extremely severe thunderstorms the past couple days which makes me
believe he must have been running scared.

If anyone in the Columbus, OH area has lost their Pem pup within the
past week or so, specifically on the west side of the city, please
contact me via email with a description (gender, markings, etc.), and
hopefully we can find this little one's family.

I've contacted the Franklin County animal shelter and posted a "Found"
notice, and we're calling Corgi Rescue in Cinci on Tuesday if we can't
find the owner.

Thanks for the help!

On May 29, 2005, my pair of Pembroke Corgis were taken from their
rural neighborhood, possibly stolen from their kennel pen, in
Hilliard FL (North Florida near the border of GA) Everything was done
such as posters, faxed notices to Vets, 6 months worth of photo ads
in the local paper, radio station, dog pounds, websites, talked to
neighbors, and contacted the Corgi Rescue, yet they were never
returned. The female of just under 1 yr. old, black tri-color; the
male was a 4 yr. old fawn & white, both reg. champ bloodlines. They
were my best of companions and went everywhere with me until this one
weekend I had to make a quick trip overnight to my sisters and made
the wrong decision to not carry them this time since I intended to
return early next day. I still miss them dearly and pray for their
return every day. The female was wearing her rabies I.D., the male
was only wearing a flea collar because "Mali" pulled on "Baxter's"
collar all the time rubbing the hair from his neck. I feel someone
from out of the area visiting the river may have taken them with no
intentions to find their owner.

I went to LSU today, just got home. LSU has the animals who have been claimed by their owners. They will be there until the owners can find housing. On the other hand Gonzales has the one's that were picked up and no one has claimed.  These are the animals that are in danger if not claimed. I will go there to see if there are any Bunny Butt's needing rescue, also volunteer to work the 4 hour shifts.

Since I am not sure how we are to start this I will start it by
letting everyone know where I am and what I have done so far as foar
as assisting in this mess of Katrina.

I have sent out offers to the ASPCA of New Orleans/Houston to let
them know that we will take in corgis and corgi mixes from the
affected area. I have worked with several groups and people in S.
LA and they know where I am at and how to get in touch with me.

The phone lines in that area that are working, are chancy at best
and the people on the front line cannot take care of the state of
emergency while hooked up to a phone to some out of state rescue,
explaining that they can't take thier name and number because there
is no pen and paper, except for the paper the dogs just peed on.

Once things settle down enough to be sorted out, I am sure each one
of us will hear that they are moving them out of the group
locations.

We can not and do not want to attempt to enter the affected area, so
the best I can do now is to send out the emails offering
assistance.
