Zona is an Aussie X too :) I love mixes and Aussie mixes seem so wonderful.
It was love at first sight with Zona and I have had her 8years now. SHe is
the light of my life.
I love to help with a 3/4 Friesian with color. I think it would be
beautiful. Can't do much though 'till the baby gets here :) I go in next
Tuesday to have TJ palpated to see if she took. I'll let you know.
I saw the stud fees on the bos at Proud Meadows. I couldn't afford any of
them! Flurry's stud fee is $800 LFG. It was a really good deal. Have you
seen him?

I'm also on the Draft list, if that's the onelist version, but my cross
is not draft, and my draft is not cross <g>. In addition to my
Morgan/STB, I have a Belgian, the Morgan mama, and 15 STBs. I would
enjoy keeping the cross list going if there are others whose crosses are
part or all lighter breeds. I'd also vote for not cross-posting to both
lists if the topic is draft-specific.
It's exciting to see the number of posts supporting the larger rider
(esp. women) and the novice adult rider. I am also large and have
ridden all my life, but I never took lessons. My parents preferred to
support piano lessons because they thought I'd lose interest in horses
<ggggg>. I donated my piano to a church last year, and the tax deduction is the
first pleasure I've ever gotten from it. I studied piano from age 7 to 15 when
I begged my parents to let me stop because I hated it. It never became easy,
regardless of the amount of practice. I could play with better artistry than
any of my friends, but they could sit down and sight-read a piece the first
time...something I was never able to do. I learned much later that it's just a
simple glitch, the same one that makes right and left so difficult for me <g>.
Meanwhile, the horses have not gone away, and I'm now 42. My husband loves
horses, too, but he is a novice. I would love for him to take riding lessons.
He's tall and wirey...we're definitely Mutt and Jeff. Maybe we can find an
instructor to help both of us. I've mostly ridden Western and prefer gaited
horses for my bad back. My riding horse is a 16.2 big-built STB buddy.
Hey, picture pals, we don't get to see those on the digest form of the
list. If you have any posted on the Web, please point us that way. I'm
dying to see these beauties! I have a growing stack of film to develop
and will share a Sassy shot as soon as I have a good one. She's named
Sassy Sue after my Mom's childhood pony which was, in turn, named after
her <g>. Mom was the only redhead out of 10 kids, and her dad said she
was just like him. When they got the pony, he said Mom and the pony
were both sassy, so it stuck. Our red Sassy lives up to the name.

Cadence is darling. Just to let you know ,I love these crosses with all the
color! Jen knows already that I anxiously await the arrival of her baby.
I just havent decided what type mare to look for to make one of these
creatures.I have some folks with a big selection of paint mares close by, but
no draft in them.
I may go with an arabian paint mare bred to Ulrik. Just not sure.

My dog is an Aussie X from the pound, his name is Kodi. He is the best dog I
have ever had. What breed is Zona? I love my Freisian X. I am working on
developing a 3/4 Friesdian with color. Is this something you would be interested
in? If so your girl would be a nice contribution, maybe we could work
together? Wicher is a wonderful stallion and his fee is 1200.00 but he is ducth
reg. and is NOT allowed to cross breed. Doktor and any of the German reg.
Freisians are however able to cross breed. ( You probably already knew this,
huh?) Let me know if you are interested on working together with me on this.
Thanks,
Nikki
Hi Barb,
Coco is a lucky horse. I know you really must feel like her mommy. I
cannot imagine how I could feel any closer to Misty. My business partner
Gloria is her original mommy. She imprinted with her from day one and she is
such a curious and loving horse. Darlene Geiser, who trains mounted police
all over the US told us this weekend at the clinic that the more curious, the
smarter horse...
So do we have smart horses? You bet. And they are a handful. They get
bored.
They need change ups to keep them on their toes. Have you tried dragging a
tree branch behind her yet? They make such noise too. Do you have driving
reins?
You can attach them to her bridle and slip the reins through the stirrups and
walk behind her to start. I began Misty that way. We are working together
much better now. It is so hard to get them to trust you so far away from
their mouth. She has a tender mouth, so it has been easier for her to feel
my fingers on the reins.
I am very interested in where you found a 21 inch English saddle. I
have searched in all my catalogs and can only find a cutback. Now mind you,
I do not have bags of money to buy a Crosby or anything like that. I have
been looking almost 6 months. So would you share your vendor? I am riding a
19 inch seat and it fits, but hurts me in some areas. I also ride a 17
Western and could go larger.
Thanks for sharing. I usually check my mail daily.
Clairese
Hi Shelly,
Thank you, Misty is 15.3 and weighs 1320 pounds. She has a combination
apple butt from her sire and a slight flat top from her dam. I think she is
wonderfully put together. She needs some muscling up, and we are trying to
do that slowly.
Clairese
It worked! When I got the message I sent the pictures was right there! Now,
if I could get the rest of the world to do that I would be doing good <LOL>
Jen
well all, since it seems there are only a few of us and most of us are on
the draft horse list, I think I may drop this and the draft cross list and
stay on the draft list. If ya'll aren't on the draft list please subscribe.
I would love to conmtinue talking to everyone.
Jen
Thanks Jen,
That was a big help. Her mother has thrown nothing but bays. She was
always bred to blacks.I know a person with a buckskin stallion that I
was thinking of looking at.He is the foundation type quarter horse, but I
dont really want to get a smaller squatty horse, but I would not know
what I would get until it was on the ground.I will keep looking and
researching.
You kind of got me thinking now of the different variations now.
Take care
Barb
Hi,
Your horse is beautiful. Thanks for the advice on the photos. It sounds
like you are a very busy person.I would also like to train my
percheron/quarter horse to drive.I have worked on desensitising her with
kids sleds and stuff like that brushing up from behind her,but have yet
to get a harness for her.She is broke to ride and is a very confident
horse.I just bought an english saddle and am waiting to get it in the
mail.I usually ride a 17 inch weastern saddle,and I hope a 21" english
is comparable in size.
Do you imprint train? I think that is the best thing a person can do for
a horse.Coco was imprint trained, and while training her is a little
boring at times,(she is as if she had been trained allready, she picks up
things so quickly, she is so smart)I am glad I worked with her from
birth.I got to witness the birth, which was just incredible.
I would really like to hear from you again, and I will work on using my
roll of film up this weekend so I can get some pictures out.
Take care
Barb

Hi Barb,
I have been lurking on this list a good many months waiting for it to take
off. Seems like this is a good beginning.
As for photos, Kodak has some great options now at the local
drugstore chains.
Eckerds will put your prints on disk, or CD - though that is expensive up
front - but after the first 20 dollar CD for the software, you can get up to
400 prints on a Photo CD <not a picture CD> you just have to bring the CD
back with each roll of film. They also can email your photos to you. This
works for those of us without color scanners or digital cameras.
I am also a large woman. I have been riding another large woman's
horse these past five years exclusively and this year she gave her to me for
my birthday. Her name is Misty Rae Champagne and she is a 12 year old
Belgian Clydesdale Quarter Palomino mare. She is my pride and joy. We do
all kinds of tricks, play ball - even soccer, jumps over 2 foot high logs,
open and close gates (with our nose & chest) climb up and down stairs, has
been a Hippotherapy horse all her life, bulldogs cattle, swim in the ocean
and we just started doing speed events. The first time she saw the poles she
got a third place ribbon. I have a ball with her. I am beginning to train
her to drive. I just began riding English a few weeks ago (need boots or
half chaps to keep from pinching my calves, OUCH ) and I want to do dressage
too, maybe hunter/jumper.
My business partner and I also just rescued a 11 year old Clydesdale
gelding named Nick who was severely abused. We have been busy trying to help
him trust us and overcome his neglect. We also have a business and
specialize in the mature rider who may have never had a horse or is just
going back to them. Many of our clients are overweight, so we love to make
them comfortable and safe.
I am on the draft list and 13 others and always like to hear about cross
breeds.
Here's a photo of Misty.
Take care, Clairese

I think catering to the larger rider would be great. I know exactly what you
are talking about as I have seen those reactions and it makes me mad.
OK, the mare was a liver chesnut bred to a black and threw you a bay right?
So the black threw a black gene and the mare gave the allele that restricted
the black to the points which gives you a bay. If you breed her back to a
black you could get a bay again. If the mare doesn't pass the "A" allele to
restrict the black you could get a solid black. If you breed to a black that
is not homozygous you could come out with another chesnut.
If you breed the bay to a black you have pretty much the same choices. To
get a buckskin you would nee to breed to a horse with the dilution gene. A
palomino or buckskin could give yo a buckskin. Or a cremello would be even
better. They carry both dilution genes so you would be garunteed a diluted
horse (palomino, buckskin, grulla)I guess I didn't narrow it done for you at
all :)
Jen
Jen,
Your mare is stunning and you look so happy to own her. Your husband's
gift to you seems like a windfall to me. Good luck with her foaling.
Clairese
Wow your horse is beautiful.I will work on getting pictures for you.I
dont have a scanner so I will have to go somewhere to get them done.
I havent done any research on color genetics.I dont have a specific
color that I am going for.I really like liver chestnut like Coco's
mother was.
I would like to see a buckskin draft, that would be nice. But I will take
what I get.Coco could have been purple, and I would have still fell in
love with her.She has a great personality and is put together so well.
I am not on the Fresian list. The movie Lady Hawke is what turned me on
to the draft crosses though. That is what I thought that horse was until
I heard that it was a fresian.I thought it was a percheron cross.When I
see pictures of fresians they just dont look like that horse. They are
more like the horses in the movie"The man in the iron mask".
Well in an earlier letter you wanted to know about me too,so here is a
little about me...
I am single,31.I bough a little house in town to fix up and sell,so I
can better afford a farm next year.I got a good deal on the house.
I work at a box plant in town.I make corrugated boxes. I have 3
horses,two cats and one dog.
My hobbies are horses of course, reading, painting ceramics, and riding
motorcycle.
I am a large woman, which is another reason I got into draft crosses. In
the future I plan to buy a place with acreage and then I plan to teach
people how to ride.Catering to the larger rider.I think that there is a
big demand for that.A lot of bigger people are afraid to ride, thinking
that they are either too big to ride or that people will tease them
about "trying to kill the poor thing".
I like watching movies too.My favorite actors are Brian Dennehy,Gabriel
Byrne, and Kevin Spacey.I like all types of movies.
Well I will let you go for now
Take care.
Barb
Oh I want to see pictures!! were you on the Friesian or Friesian cross list?
I have a Belgian/Paint mare that I am breeding to a Friesian. My mare just
had a filly out of a Paint and is hopefully bred back to Flurry Ca-Lynn
(sp?) Here is my sweet mare...
Jen
How long have you been signed up? I subscribed to three lists to see which
would be best...it doesn't look like there's much going on here :) I love
mutts and have found that sometimes unplanned babies bring the most joy. It
looks like in this case unplanned definatly did not mean unwanted. I have a
draft cross I "inherited" from my husband. I fell in love with her and she
kinda decided she wanted to be mine. Now my poor husband can't even catch
her. She just steps away from him :)
Jen
Yes I am here! I haven't recieved anything either. I am glad you wrote.
My name is Nikki. I have 5 horses and one in process :-) I have two purebred
Friesians ( my mare is in foal for 2000), one 2yr old Pinto 1/2 Friesian
colt (blk and wht tobiano) , one Pinto DWB X mare and a appy gelding. Let me
know who you are:-)

Hey, that's the first post I've seen since signing up. My cross is by a
Standardbred and out of a Morgan. She was "unplanned," as daddy took
himself through three gates and a barn to get to mama the day before he
was to be gelded. The resulting mare is gorgeous, and I'm training her
for carriage driving. She's small, bright chestnut, two even hind socks
and a big star shaped like an upside-down heart. If I find any judged
trail drives in this area (Ohio), I'd love to enter her. Her pop's by
the stallion who held the world record for 9 years, and the son has
amazing stamina.
My first horse was a Welsh-QH cross, a great pal.

Dear Merrylegs,
I just do not know what to do. I am sooo bored standing in my stall all day. My
owner only comes to see me a couple times a week. The rest of the time, I just
stand looking out the window at my friends being groomed, ridden and bathed. I
thought I had come up with a great idea to overcome my boredom. I began chewing
on my door, feeder, walls and even on my blanket.
Unfortunately, that did not make my owner too happy. She had the barn manager
come by with a big can of really stinky liquid. He painted it throughout my
stall. It made my eyes burn and my nose run for 2 days. Not only that, it burnt
my mouth when I gave it a taste test. Yuk!!!
Talk about getting even! I guess my owner was really upset at me. She also had
my blanket removed. Doesn't she know it is still really cold at night.
I just can't win!! Please help. How can I combat my boredom without making my
owner mad at me again?
Sincerely,
Chewed Out
Dear Chewed Out,
Your owner had your stall creosoted. That is like horse abestos! What you need
is a good equine attorney. If you play your hay cubes right, you'll be living
out the rest of your life in a plush irrigated pasture with a swanky shelter and
a few hot fillies at your beck and call. Make sure when you get into court that
you do your mane conservatively and that there is no hay in your tail. Be extra
polite to the judge and really play up your injuries. The more hacking and
running nose the better. If you could go off your feed for a week and appear all
emaciated, all the better.
There is nothing like a good lawsuit to stave off boredom, but if you don't want
to drag your owner through the manure you could always try to get a new one.
Keep chewing everything insight. Chew right through that creosote, and when your
neglectful owner makes it out to see you, don't appear to excited. Act really
spooky or sullen, and maybe dump her once or twice. Sooner or later, she'll
probably sell you or even give you away. Just make sure that you are on your
best behavior when nice new potential owners try you out. Chances are you'll win
a more attentive owner, or at least a better one than you currently have.
