In 2007, I knew the time was right to bring a dog into my life again, and met Chena at Orphans of the Storm in IL. Named after a river I love in Alaska, he is suspected to be a Dane/Pit X. He is hearing and sighted, and wags his tail from the neck down! He has the pibble prey drive for squirrels and anything that moves fast, but is a very well-behaved and loving boy. Chena is now 3, and is the little big brother in the pack.
I wanted to find a companion for Chena and came across Yeti in an ad in the Tribune. An 8-week old pup at the time, Yeti is pure Great Dane. I was worried about his future because his breeder had him listed "as-is" in a newspaper ad and didn't seem to care where the pup went. It soon became obvious after a few weeks that there was *something* different about Yeti, and I joined DeafDogs and D2Care soon after. Yeti is bilaterally deaf and has some vision issues (mostly peripheral). Yeti is now 2. He is a little too smart, and a little too mischievous to be left alone or be totally trusted, but he keeps me laughing with his antics! He has a heart the SIZE of Alaska. If he loves you, he lets you know with leans, kisses, and the ever-popular dane lap-sit, when he isn't doing things like getting ice from the ice-cube maker, or opening doors and drawers to get at things he wants.
Moby is the baby at 15 months. I knew that he was congenitally deaf, and am so blessed to have this little soul in my life. We found each other due to an ad on a horse trading web-site. Moby loves to get the zoomies! Moby also has a digestive issue where he is missing pancreatic enzymes and is on medication for life. You would never know it though when watching him romp, play, and he is an amazing catcher. He catches any ball, and loves to bring them to me and *spit* it back for you to throw. He is also the "vent hog" in the household kicking the other dogs off the Kuranda closest to the heat register when the heat comes on in the house.
