Give Homeless Animals a Sign of Hope! With the continuing problems of cruel puppy mill breeding and outrageously high euthanasia rates, it's more crucial than ever that those who support animal welfare make their voices heard. Petfinder.com would like to send supporters yard signs to be placed in front of their homes or businesses, showing support for the adoption of homeless pets. The yard signs would be 18" x 24" with a slogan supporting adoption. The signs can stay up for any amount of time you like, you will not be obligated in any way, and you will be doing a huge part to spread awareness about the importance of adoption!
If you would like a yard sign, please reply to India at india@... by Thursday, May 29, and let us know. Atlanta Animal Rescue Friends (AARF) is partnering with Petfinder on this awareness campaign. Thank you for your support! CONTACT India at india@aarfatlanta. org (aarfatlanta. org)

Hello, Pets911.com was just alerted to a cruel spam email on Friday that several of our site visitors have received. A person utilizing a yahoo account is sending emails to pet owners searching for their lost pet. This person is requesting $600 to be sent to a Nigerian bank account in exchange for the safe return of the posted lost pet. DO NOT CONTACT THIS PERSON.
Pets911.com has been servicing lost pet owners since 1998 and this is the first spam email reporting that we have had. We are very sorry that it has happened at all. Sadly, there are sick people in the world trying to capitalize on other's heartache. We have taken steps to report the incident to yahoo as well as to authorities.
We are in the process of making emails on our site hidden from spammer view. It is our highest priority and the fix should be in place by the end of the day today (Monday 4/28). I personally apologize for this incident and can assure you that we are taking all measure to prevent it in the future.
Please feel free to contact me directly if you have any other issues. My email address is tmains@....
We wish you a speedy reunion with your pet!

We oppose "rescuers" who steal pets, destroy property, falsely accuse, abuse and destroy families. We oppose all their crime and illegal activity. "Rescuers" seek glory and high "adoption fees". They attack quality family breeders calling them "backyard breeders". Dog scarcity due to excessive S&N makes horrible commercial breeders prosper. Hi, all you animal lovers. This is pretty simple... Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Animal Rescue Site is having trouble getting enough people to click on it daily to meet their quota of getting free food donated every day to abused and neglected animals.
It takes less than a minute (How about 20 seconds) [actually it takes about 5 seconds, I tried it] to go to their site and click on the purple box "fund food for animals" for
free.This doesn't cost you a thing.

PLEASE XPOST
Brian had to leave for Iraq, and he had no choice but to surrender both Shadow and Eden to our Humane Society, in hope that both dogs can find a new family again together.
PLEASE cross post this letter to any one who can help Shadow and Eden find a new home. Thank you Jen Gabriele and Bill Whipkey
To all Fellow American Animal Lovers,
My Name is Gabriele Whipkey and my Husband and I are working with our Humane Society in to find good homes for all our Animals.
This case is very special that
both dogs, Shadow and Eden should stay together.
In 2005 Shadow was brought in to the Humane Society part of 14 dogs which where held by an Animal Collector.
All Dogs were adopted and Shadow found a good friend in Brian, who was volunteering at the time at our Humane Society to walk dogs. Brian adopted Eden earlier and Shadow completed his family.
Shadow and Eden are very close friends, but something is missing now.
Brian had to leave for Iraq, and he had no choice but to surrender both Shadow and Eden to our Humane Society, in hope that both dogs can find a new family again together.
Shadow (Chow mix) and Eden (Beagle, Collie mix) are both Adult Dogs, very well behaved,
friendly and house trained.
Both dogs love to ride in the car, will follow you everywhere and love long walks. Shadow and Eden are missing Brian and a comfortable home life very much, and we need someone who will care for both of them.
Please, consider adopting Shadow and Eden together, both dogs have still so much love to give. There adoption Fee will be paid.
Our Humane Society is a kill shelter and my plea goes out to all, please HELP You can read about Shadows and Eden's story on our website: http://www.somersetpets.com/ both dogs are featured on the front Page. If you have any questions please contact me via e-mail:

Cocco is a cocker spaniel being fostered by American Cocker Spaniel Rescue, and CARA is having a special fundraiser for Cocco.
Cocco has violent seizures and it will take special blood work to understand the cause of these and properly treat them. What Cocco needs is some special people to be his Valentines this year.
One of Cocco's valentines has already stepped forward to
help. Shelby, Glory, and their sweetheart of a Mom, Arbonne Representative Marilyn Tomlin, are generously offering a Valentines and TLC special.
Please visit our website http://www.carafund.org/cocco.htm where you can read more about Cocco and our fundraiser.

I have a 3 year old male shih tzu up for adoption. He is housebroken.
Not good with little kids, that is why I am putting him up for
adoption. He is very calm and quiet, half the time you dont even know
hes here. Right now he has a little bit of a skin problem but I am
taking care of that. If you are interested please contact me for
pictures and we can talk about an adoption fee.
In February, Disney will release the DVD Snow Buddies. Most people won't realize that many puppies died to make this film. To start, thirty golden retriever puppies were separated for their mothers at six weeks olf (normally you should wait 8-12 weeks) and shipped to trainers in BC to prepare them for filming.
While on location, eight puppies died and all the others got sick from a virus called Parvo. Twenty eight
replacement puppies also got the virus.
Sadly, despite thousands of dollars being spent on vet treatmant to try to help, these innocent puppies died to make the Snow Buddies movie.
By buying this DVD or renting it from your local video store you will support the wrondful use of animals for entertainment.
++++++++++++ +++++++++ +++++++++ ++++
This is copied from the BARK magazine that the SPCA puts out.
I know for a fact that this is all true. One of our foster homes was involved in caring for the sick puppies. It was horrible.
I'm sending this to you to you will be informed. Feel free to pass it on to anyone you know who may purchase this or rent this movie.
For those pups that survived, I know for a fact that they will probably end up with heart problems because parvo affects the heart. For those that are affected from the parvo, they could die young.

We live on the edge of Rochester, MN and
someone has dropped off an American Cocker Spaniel. After three days of contacting neighbors and animal control/shelters, we are out of options.
Do you have any suggestions for who might take this dog. It is cute, but we have two labs and a puppy already!

I know some of you have birds and you probably go to PetSmart at least once in awhile. PetSmart stores in WA have been accused of selling birds that possibly are sick with psittacosis. The State Dept. of Health says that the Thurston County store received some of the birds. See the following for the rest of the news release: ************ ********* ********* ********* ******** ************ ********* ********* ********* ******** <http://www.doh. wa.gov/Publicat/ 2007_news/ 07-226.htm> For immediate release: December 28, 2007 (07-226-revised) This document has been revised to add a list of Washington counties where stores received
shipments of birds. Contacts: Dorothy Tibbetts, Zoonotic Disease Program 360-236-3361 Donn Moyer, Communications Office 360-236-4076 Pet birds purchased recently may pose health risk to people OLYMPIA -- State health officials are warning that some recently purchased cockatiels or other pet birds may pose a health risk to people who are exposed to them. Some birds shipped by a national distributor tested positive for avian chlamydiosis, and about 20 PetSmart stores in 11 Washington counties have received birds from this vendor. So far, there have been no reports of people in our state contracting the human form of the disease, called psittacosis. The pet store chain has voluntarily removed all birds supplied by the wholesale vendor and is treating
its sick and exposed birds with antibiotics. Employees of each store were notified and instructed in proper cleanup and handling of the birds. Customers who bought birds from these stores since October are getting letters about avian chlamydiosis and psittacosis. Avian chlamydiosis is a disease of birds caused by the bacterium Chlamydophila psittaci. It is frequently found in birds but it doesn’t always cause the bird to become ill. Sick birds often are lethargic, don’t eat, loose weight, have thick discharges from eyes or nose, and diarrhea. Birds most frequently infected are psittacine species such as cockatiels, cockatoos, parrots and parakeets. Owners can have birds tested and treated with antibiotics by a veterinarian. The bacterium can be passed from birds to people when dust from dried bird droppings or respiratory secretions are inhaled. People who are infected with the bacterium and develop psittacosis typically have a fever, chills, headache, muscle aches
and a cough. These symptoms usually develop 5 to 19 days after exposure. While the disease is often mild, it can be serious if not recognized and treated. Antibiotics are often prescribed to treat infection. Anyone who develops these symptoms and has been near pet birds should contact their medical doctor. To prevent the spread of psittacosis, birdcages should be cleaned often to avoid waste build-up. A non-dusty litter such as newspaper should be placed under the wire mesh and changed daily. Water and food bowls should be emptied and rinsed daily. When bars or perches must be clean they should be washed using a disinfectant and rinsed thoroughly. Wet-mopping floors and countertops near cages will help avoid circulating dust and feathers. The Department of Health Web site has more information on avian chlamydiosis and psittacosis (www3.doh.wa. gov/here/ materials/ PDFs/24_Psittaco sis_E05L. pdf). Additional resources are available online from the Centers for Disease
Control and Prevention Web site (www.cdc.gov/ ncidod/dbmd/ diseaseinfo/ psittacosis_ t.htm) and the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians (www.nasphv. org/Documents/ Psittacosis. pdf). In Washington, the 11 counties where PetSmart stores received these birds include Benton, Clark, King, Kitsap, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish, Spokane, Thurston, Whatcom and Yakima. ************ ********* ********* ********* ******** ************ ********* ********* ********* ******** If you go to the local PetSmart, when you get
home and before you go near your birds, take off the clothes you wore to the store, take a shower and wash your hair. Immediately wash the clothes, too. Also, wipe down your shoes with alcohol wipes to get rid of any bird dander or dust from the store. If you purchased anything at the store, disinfect it before using it.
The easiest thing, of course, is not to patronize PetSmart until we know that the danger of infection has passed. Call the Dept. of Health or the local Animal Control to ask if they have information about when the store will be safe again. ************ ********* ********* ********* ********

HURRY!! THIS YEAR'S AUCTION HAS BEEN EXTENDED ONE WEEK!
Hello everyone!
Is it really that time of year already? Yup, the weather is getting cool, the days are getting shorter--Santa is on his way! So make a list, check it twice, and go shopping at our Annual Cocker Rescue Christmas Auction!
We have hundreds of items for auction--from quilts and blankets to art work and jewelry. I am sure you will find something for everyone on your list, whether
they have four paws or two feet, and you will be supporting the work of Cocker Rescue in giving these rescue dogs a second chance at health and happiness.
We in Cocker Rescue have had an incredible amount of very expensive-to-treat dogs coming in this year--Second Chance Cocker Rescue, Annie's Rescued Friends, Abandoned Angels, Cockers In Need, Cocker Pals, Life's Little Paws, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of New England, Mid-South Cocker Rescue, Cocker Spaniel Rescue of WA (that's really American Cocker Spaniel Rescue -- they listed our name wrong!) and Columbus Cocker Spaniel Rescue--we are all loaded with dogs and lacking in funds, but want to make sure each and every cocker has a healthy, Happy Holiday, followed by a wonderful forever home.
Therefore, we are holding our Annual Cocker Rescue Christmas Auction at our own little "Cocker E-Bay" site, with some really great items: Go take a look!
http://www.cocker-rescue-auction.net. With hundreds of items up for auction, there is a little something for everyone, and lots of great items to add to your holiday gift list.
We will continue our 2007 Christmas Auction from November 10 to DECEMBER 8, 2007. If you have not registered at the php auction site before at http://www.cocker-rescue-auction.net or http://www.jamdweck.com/phpauction you will have to re-register at that site. If you have any problems or questions with registration, send an e-mail to Jane Dweck at jam@... or Gordon LaGrow at sales@.... and we will walk you through the re-registering process.
Each and every dollar raised by each of the Cocker Rescues in this auction will go towards the vetting and care of a sweet wigglebutt cocker, in order to have them become healthy and happy, and placed in a forever home. Many of these cockers have skin issues, ear issues, eye issues, etc., from lack of care in their
life before they came into rescue. We in Cocker Rescue could not give these cockers a second chance without your help, donations and participation in our fundraisers.
New items are being added to our Christmas Auction everyday, so be sure to check back often. For your convenience, the front page of our Auction Site has a section "Last created auctions" so you can easily keep up-to-date on the new items being added.
Have fun bidding, and good luck winning, and again, thanks for your support of Cocker Rescue! Woofs and wags from all the cockers, and best wishes for a safe and healthy Holiday Season. To shop for items specifically for/from American Cocker Spaniel Rescue, find items listed as being from "CSRWA" (Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Washington). New items are being added to our Christmas Auction everyday, so be sure to check back often. For your convenience, the front page of our Auction Site has a section "Last created auctions" so you can easily keep up-to-date on the new items being added.
Have fun bidding, and
good luck winning, and again, thanks for your support of Cocker Rescue! Woofs and wags from all the cockers, and best wishes for a safe and healthy Holiday Season. To shop for items specifically for/from American Cocker Spaniel Rescue, find items listed as being from "CSRWA" (Cocker Spaniel Rescue of Washington). We'll be adding different items up until November 30th, so check back often!

HomeAgain™ PetRescuers Member Guide
As a HomeAgain PetRescuer, there are quick, easy steps you can take to ensure the safety and welfare of a lost pet. If you are comfortable approaching the pet, first check for forms of identification. If the owner's contact information is on the tag, call the owner immediately and tell them the location of their pet.
If there is no owner contact information available (or if you cannot reach the owner), call 1-888-HOME-AGAIN (888-466-3242) to report the found pet to the HomeAgain Proactive Pet Recovery Network. HomeAgain
dispatchers will help guide you through the process of reporting and reuniting a lost pet with his or her owner.
You are not required to approach the pet or take it into your home or yard. If you decide to take a pet into your care, here are some suggestions:
1. Segregate the pet from your other animals.
2. Provide food and water.
3. Check for signs of
injury.
4. Monitor the pet's activity periodically while he/she remains with you.
