"Driving Dogs" discusses training, conditioning, equipment, etc., for the cart driving dog. Driver usually sits on the cart (sulky) and the dog takes directions via reins, similar to driving a horse. Dog cart driving dates back to the 14th century. It has been rediscovered as a modern concept in dog exercise. Modern dog driving emphasizes team work between the dog(s) and driver. It is a fun activity for both dog and driver, as well as light exercise for the family pet.
This message board is also open to discussion on basic carting that may not include a driver (also known as "dog carting"). But, please be aware that most members consider "dog carting" to be stepping stone in the road towards training a dog to be driven.
This is not a mushing message board and we do not discuss the specifics of dog sleds and sled dog training. There are many other lists specific to that activity. Dog sulkies are not sleds with wheels.
