A fantastic idea! To bring two Bangkok street elephants to Elephant
Haven. A three months walk through Thailand with lots of fun and
playing for the two liberated elephants and finaly a peaceful haven
to meet other elephants and to live a normal elephantlife!
This is a plan of Antoinette van de Water and you can support her by
sending money. To bring the two elephants home they need 51,000
euro's. You can sponsor this walk with "elphant steps" or to donate
some money (online with Mastercard, Visa, American Express and Diners
Club)
The walk starts in September and you can follow the elephants and
Antoinette with news updates and a diary.
Street elephant have a miserable life. They often are beaten, with
hard labour and to keep them working their keepers (mahouts) gave the
elephants amphetamine (!). These poor elephants are not only used for
(hard) labour but also for begging. They are sleeping in parks
without enough shade to hide from the sun. Walking through the city
is very dangerous with to much traffic, etc. etc.
