Hi Stephanie,
I only have 4 hermies. I plan on getting a bigger and better crabitat
at tax return time and more hermies. I am making a hermies grocery
shopping list. My hermies are sitting in the lap of luxury now!!!!!

Welcome Meagan!
I have been re-habilitating Wal-Mart hermies that have
been abused and neglected, and out of 30 I have saved,
only 6 have survived. Although they have had
traumatic lives, they are spoiled rotten here! They
just moved into a 75 gal tank, which was previously
occupied by two VERY old oscars. There is a HUGE
variety of things for hermies to eat, so comb through
the info on the website and good luck with the
recipes!

I have four hermit crabs. I have been feeding them the food that you
buy in PetsMart. I know there must be a better diet for my critters. I
am hoping that I have come to the right place for the advice that I am
seeking.
Thanks,
Maegan

I am attempting to locate an old friend of mine who authored Land
Hermit Crabs in 1976. His name is Paul J. Nash. He was me roommate many
years ago. Any help would be appreciated.
Hi All, I just picked a bunch of these Camilla flowers. Which is the
best way to feed it, fresh, frozen or dried? Or should I do it all
three ways? Thanks!
Carol

Welcome, Connie.
It's amazing how attached you can get to these guys. My husband
thinks I'm nuts because I'm so into my hermit crabs. ;0) But he
doesn't understand that every crab is different: each has its own
personality, likes and dislikes. I got our first crab (Hermie) 1-1/2
years ago on a whim. Didn't know a thing about hermit crabs. I was
shocked at how much care and attention they required. Fortunately,
Hermie survived; and I learned as much as I could about caring for
hermit crabs. I now have 7 crabs, most of whom I've had for at least
a year. I'm no expert, but I think a 30-gallon aquarium would be OK
for 7 crabs, provided they're not really big. Have you bathed your
crabs yet? They really come out of their shells (no pun intended)
then! Also, do you have both freshwater and sea salt water in their
crabitat? I only ask because this is one thing I didn't learn about
for a while; and the crabs really enjoy bathing in and filling their
shells with the salt water. It's good for them, because it's part of
their natural environment. Both types of water need to be
conditioned because of the minerals in the water (they can harm the
crabs). I'm not trying to sound bossy; forgive me if I do. These
are just things I wasn't aware of, and it's good information to
know. Enjoy your crabbie crabs!

Hi all...I was so excited to find this site. It is very informative.
I am the new mom to 3 little hermit crabs. I don't know what kind they
are..but they are so cute. They are living in a 30 gallon aquarium
with about 5" of sand in it. I have a red light bulb for warmth and a
heating pad on low under part of the tank.. The temperature is staying
at 80 degrees. The humidity is doing great. There is some
condensation on the glass. They have a small area where they can get
into the water if they want to. A sponge in a lid for drinking and two
food dishes. I have several shells of various sizes in the tank for
them.I have had them about a week and I haven't seen them eat yet. I
know they are eating because in the morning some of the food is gone.
Tonight I gave them a few kernals of corn and some apple. I have never
had a hermit crab before and I hope I am doing everything right. I
would like to get 4 more crabs. Do you think that 7 of them would be
to many for a 30 gallon aquarium? I am looking forward to learning
lots on this forum. Thank you. Connie
