I recently started looking to get check-ups for my ferrets, I found that a check
up alone would be about $50 per ferret at various local vets. The last place I
called was Banfield, in Petsmart.. It turns out that for any animal a exam is
free on Tuesday's and Thursday's from 2 til 4, it is for walk-ins only. Dispite
the fact that the parking lot at Petsmart was full there was only 3 people in
front of us, in 3 different exam rooms. After a 15 minute wait we went to an
exam room, the table was just sanitized and from there we had another 15 minute
wait. The vet was VERY through, she checked their lungs and heart, teeth,
palpated their stomachs, checked their balance and cordination, checked their
ears, etc.. It was completely free, the only thing that I paid was $9 each to
have their blood pulled and spun for distemper titers.. This is a good choice if
you are short on money, you will have to pay for any medications or treatments
but a free exam will save you $30 to $60 per ferret.. The vet was knowlageable
too, she asked if we knew about ADV, Insulinoma and Adrenal. And she was glad to
hear about the raw diet that we feed.
Call Banfield ahead of time, I doubt all of them have this service.. And I'm
sure the times will vary from store to store.
I hope this info helps.
