Re: [FERRETS FERTS WOOZLES] Asking for prayers and a question about liver

Oh yes, I always leave food out and water. I have two and the other one loves
to eat. Could he have liver disease at 2 yrs old? I think I will need to take
him to another Vet that has more experience with ferrets. As far as I know
Whitey doesn't have anything else wrong and I think the test showing liver
enzymes were high could be it or it could be something else. I mean, he has
gone down hill and I have been taking to the Vet. Please read my post on Whitey
update. He did eat tonight and drink, well I had to make him drink. He readily
eats his food if I hold him, but it has to be soupy. He won't eat anything
hard. Not even his treats that he loves. Can they get an infection in the
liver? That's what the other Vet thinks, but I just wonder. I will be taking
him to the vet again on Sunday if he shows no imporvement.

Thanks so much
deanna

be done (that I know of). I don't remember the name of it, but there's a drug
that can help lower the count. But as far as I know, raised enzyme levels can
indicate early stages of liver failure. Our Rufus was diagnosed with this last
January when we took him in for sudden weight loss. However, he also has
Insulinoma and vet said the raised liver enzymes could be caused from the Pred
he was on for that. So we don't give him the pred now unless he seems to be
doing the drunk walk and we cut the dose way back. He has since gained weight &
kept it right where it should be. He was down to 1.3 lbs (just 0.1 lb more than
our tiny girl!) and is now back to just over 2 lbs.

him to the vet. I hope you are also still leaving a bowl of kibble & a dish of
water for him to eat if he gets hungry.

passed and I got off the computer every night with a heavy heart and I just
couldn't take it for awhile.

> Anyway to get to my point, My name is Deanna and I have two ferrets, both two
years old. One is a sable, his name is Bandit and the other is a DEW, his name
is Whitey. He is deaf. Recently, at the beginning of June I started noticing
that Whitey was losing weight and he wasn't eating like he should. He's a small
ferret anyway. About 1.5 lbs. so I could tell rather quickly that he was losing
weight. I took him to the vet and they did a fecal and said he had bacteria in
his feces, so they gave me Flagl to use for 7 days. After the course of
treatment he still wasn't eating, I have been supplementing his food with I
guess my version of duck soup. I take chicken baby food, water, his kibble
crushed and a drop of whipping cream mix it together and warm it up. It makes a
soupy, watery consistency. Anyway, he will only eat this, but the problem is,
he doesn't act sick, he just doesn't want to eat, so I only feed him 4 times a
day and I don't get up
> every four hours. I could be making a mistake by not doing this, but I
didn't think I should since he doesn't act sick. He's playful and runs around.
His eyes are bright, his nose pink, he looks healthy. So anyway I called the
vet and she wanted to try carafate and tylan and she also wanted to worm him, so
we did this and that didn't help. So we went back to the vet today and they did
another fecal, urinalysis and blood work. She said everthing looked fine except
he had something that was high on the liver test. I'm sorry I don't remember
exactly what it was. I am going to call tomorrow. Oh and this time the fecal
came back fine, so no more bacteria there. She gave me Amoxicillian and Choline
and SamE to support his live and help it to work more effeciently. She thinks
it could be an infection. I am really worried. He is only two and I am a
worrisome person anyway, so my first thought is liver cancer or something else
could affect the liver.
> Of couse, searching on the internet didn't help, only to make me worry more.
I am already worried and crying because I don't want to lose my baby and I know
if it's not an infection, it is something bad. I know you can't live without a
liver.
> Anyway, has anyone heard of a liver infection, or had this happen and if so
please give me any information you may have.
> I hope I haven't left anything out.
> My second request is please pray for my baby, Whitey, I can't imagine my live
without him and they have such a short lifespan anyway. I don't want to lose
him so soon. I have read of such loss lately of all they fuzzies passing to the
Rainbow Bridge and it really has me worried.

for your other ferrets who have lost ones that they love.

Do you know if the enzyme levels were raised before the medication? Some medications can cause raised liver enzymes. If the damage is reversible the levels...
