Welcome to the club! I hope to see lots of people
coming here to learn and talk about one of the most
beautiful orders of mammals, the order cetacea. I have
added I few interesting links to the links page which
contain lots of information and pictures on these
beautiful creatures. Because the club is extremely new, I
hopefully will be adding some more information and
pictures.

So come in, relax, and at the same time enjoy the
company of these wonderful animals, the dolphins and
whales.
Every week there will be a new fun fact. These
will be interesting facts about whales and dolphins.
So come in every Saturday when a new fun fact will
be posted!
Any members of this club are welcome
to post a fun fact up.

~Dolphin Smiles~
To all friends of the whales and dolphins, I have
posted up a photo gallery based on Lolita. These photos
show the conditions she's kept in and what her life is
like. These photos are just photos of one killer whale.
Imagine all the other whales and dolphins kept in
undergrade tanks! Usually the tanks are small concreate fish
bowls. These animals that would often swim miles
everyday, are confined to just a few metres. Lukily, there
has been some improvement in the quality of the
keeping of captive animals. Whales and dolphins are
breeding in captivity, which reduces the need to take
stoke from the wild. Also, many of the marine parks
provide natural behaviours for the animals e.g. no more
jumping through hoops. A good example is Sea World on the
Gold Coast, Australia. Here the dolphins are kept in
extremly natural conditions. The enclosures are very
large, joined by underwater gates. All of them have
natural sandy bottoms and beaches surrounding the
enclosures, live fish swimming in the water, coral, seaweed
and much more. All the the shows consist of absolutly
natural behaviours with no balls or hoops in sight. Sea
World has not taken any animals from the wild, as it
has a very sucssesful breeding program. Also, Sea
World conducts the Sea World Research and Rescue Fund
to help marine animals in the wild. Here they help
distressed and ill marine mammals, birds, reptiles and fish,
rehabilitate them and eventually release them. If the animal
happens not to be fit enough to be released, it is kept
by Sea World.
So, if whales and dolphins must be
kept in captivity, lets hope that they are kept in the
condition of the Sea World dolphins.
But remember, if we
manage to release Keiko, then anything is
possible!

Cetaceans Forever!

spirit_of_the_dolphin
To all friends of the dolphins and whales, I
might be going to Port Stevens. This is one of the most
populated cetacean places in the East Coast of Australia.
We hopefully will go camping there on the Christmas
holidays. There are many daily trips to see these amazing
animals. It's even said that dolphins can be seen from the
bay where the camp is situated. I'm also a member of
the Dolphin Society which is based in Port Stevens.
Members get to have special tours to see the dolphins and
whales. I can't wait!! If we go I will definatly post up
some photos of the whales and dolphins.

If you
have any experiences with and whales and dolphins you
would like to share (whether written or in pictures)
please feel free to post it up!

~Dolphin

To all the friends of the dolphins and whales,

I just wanted to say Have a Merry Christmas! And
there is a no better time than Christmas to adopt a
dolphin or whale. These beautiful animals need our help
and adopting one could save yet another one of these
precious lives. Christmas is a time of giving, so please
give to these creatures. It would make a whole lot of
a difference!

You can adopt a whale or
dolphin from this organization's website at:

www.wdcs.org

This is just one of the many places you can adopt a
dolphin or whale. The WDCS (Whale and Dolphin Consevation
Society) help protect the dolphins around Moray Firth,
Scotland. This is one of the last places on the British
Isles where a large pod of dolphins frequently inhabit.
Your money will aid in the research of these whales
and dolphins and help protect their home, Moray
Firth.

So please adopt a dolphin or whale this
Christmas and help these beautiful, intelligent
animals.

~Dolphin Smiles~

spirit_of_the_dolphin

Welcome Newcie and Ladybuggiah to the club.
Thankyou so much for joining :-). Sorry the club has been
inactive for a while but I was away on holiday camping.

To answer your question ladybuggiah, I have not gone
to Port Stevens yet but I will probably be going
sometime soon during the holidays. I can't wait till we
go. Port Stevens is said to be the Whale and Dolphin
capital of Australia. Port Stevens will be one of my many
experiences that I have had with whales and dolphins. I have
had encounters with dolphins and whales in Australia,
America, Thiland and Bali. I have even done every dolphin
lover's dream, swimming with dolphins. It is the most
increadiable experience.

If you want to know about my
experiences in more detail please ask me and I will be
pleased to tell you. Please feel free to post up your
experiences with dolphins and/or whales.

~Dolphin

Newcie, I'm sorry but I do not know the name of
the artist that painted 'Homecoming'. I will try and
look for him/her though. I just wanted to say how
beautiful and amazing the painting is. Let's hope that
Keiko will once again taste freedom and be reunited
with his family.

~Dolphin
Smiles~

spirit_of_the_dolphin

P.S. May Toni forever be remembered
and thought of.
Hi, i,m a new member to this club. Newcie, you
know me very well, without seeming to butt in here the
picture you are discussing is called Going Home and was
painted by Randy Kitt. I also have some beautiful
pictures of Orcas by Tim Wistrom, he paints the Orcas of
the Pacific North West, i have two Limited Edition
Lithographs they are stunning, one is called Emerald City
Orcas, and the other is Night Shift, both are off
Seattle with three Orcas in the foreground, i also have
more of Tims work but not lithos.
hey everyone wish me luck in a sighting (any) today. My last day to see the
pacific ocean for a couple of years and it would be good to see something
fantastic!

Ladybuggiah
Sorry the club has been inactive for a while but
I have been very busy lately, especially with
school. A warm welcome to all new members. It's great to
have you here!

Well, I have been to Port
Stevens! When I went it was not whale watching season as
the Humpbacks migrate to Australia from Antartica
around June/July and head back again around October.
Luckily, the dolphins are always in the Port, all year
round. I went dolphin watching for two hours. We saw
quite a lot of dolphins (bottlenose dolphins). A few
dolphins started bowriding our boat but mainly they swam a
few metres away from our boat. I did not see any
arial activities, although they are often seen doing
them. Altogether it was a pleasurable experience, being
with the dolphins. I should being going back when the
whales come, so I can go whale and dolphin
watching.

If anyone has any information on the migration of
the humpbacks that migrate to Hawaii, could you please
post it. Your information will be
appreciated.

Well, that's all for now! Remember to keep this club
alive, so feel free to post up anything concerning
cetaceans and their enviroment.

~Dolphin

Welcome to the club cp3040! It's great to have
you here. Sorry once again for the club being so
inactive. I'm just so busy! I will try to get on more often

active you may want to add some new pictures and links,
start a friendly disscusion, share some cetacean
information and/or current affairs concearning them, schduele
a chat (I will check the times) or start some
trvia. If you want, please invite some more 'dolphin and
whale loving' people to the club. I would also like to
change the club colours and maybe even he picture.
Newcie, robsonbight, could you please tell me how you
changed the colours of your clubs? Your help will be
appreciated.

If any one has any ideas, could you please

Caving to foreign trade pressure, the Clinton
Administration has weakened the dolphin-safe tuna label, putting
dolphins in grave danger once again. The dolphin-safe tuna
label was established in 1990 to protect dolphins from
tuna fishermen who chase, harass, encircle, capture,
harm and even kill dolphins. It ensured that any tuna
caught by intentionally netting dolphins could not be
labeled "dolphin-safe" and sold in the United States.

Tuna fishermen in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean
found that setting nets on dolphins to catch the tuna
swimming underneath was a lucrative technique for tuna
fishing, even though the practice is extremely harmful to
dolphins. Seven million dolphins have been killed in the
past 40 years from this practice. Since

decreased by 97%.

The newly approved standard will
now allow dolphin-netted tuna to be sold as
