To all, most hedgehogs do live 6-10 years, but not African pygmy's, Algerian pygmys or pygmy mixes. Many hedgehogs in the us are actually mixed species, and that has caused some additional health problems. The small pygmy sized hedgehogs should live 2-4 years in captivity. Asian species, European hedgehogs, and the large (small opposum sized) african species usually live 6 years or more. The longest lived European hedgehog was 18. But those species are not in the US currently, hopefully someday I will be able to bring the larger species of hedgehogs to the US so that reputable zoos and individuals will be able to love them and learn from them.
