I am closing this group as there have been no messages in over a month. I'm
glad to have known so many caring people and I hope you
all continue to speak up and to pursue laws and protection for the dogs in your
own area and everywhere.
If not you, than who? If not now, then when?

I sent it to her almost a month ago, but maybe you're right.
I will resend it to her after valentines day.

I have a website for another dog I've been fighting for (savebearthedog.com) and can add the link there.  I'll also ask my computer savvy animal advocate friend to spread the link all over as well.

so my suggestion, although not an earth moving suggestion,
is that everyone who knows anyone with any websites, pet related
or not, ask them to post a link to Peppys memorial.

I could only think of one website of someone that I sort of know
and she posted a link on her site.

If you click on this link and then scroll all the way to the bottom
of the page you will see where she posted a link and wrote above
the link..... In Memory of Little Peppy-Please View the Story Here

If peppys memorial page starts popping up all over the place that
will get the story out there. But it would have to be on alot of
websites for that to begin to happen.

I have to say that I love the idea of PEPPYS LAW. Goodness I hope
some day that happens.

Did anyone email that newspaper that wrote the article on peppy and
did the author respond ?

Also, I personally am not disappointed in anyone here. Especially
the people that lived right up there near peppy. I know you guys
went above and beyond the call of duty. The people in charge
of interpreting the laws are the ones who let this happen.

However, I am disappointed in the DDB organization.

I have emailed Tamara or whatever her name is now, president
of DDB on many past occassions and she was always gracious
enough to respond. There were a couple of times we chatted
back and forth.

I emailed her with the DDB email she had originally sent out
to tell people of peppy and in that email I told her that below
she had a story of a dog named peppy and I told her what happened
to Peppy. I also gave her the link to peppys memorial and said
that I would be most grateful if she would post that. I expressed
that I felt it important to show people what happens when action
is not taken because of the laws.

For whatever reasons, she chose not to respond and not to post
any more about peppy.

I can't seem to get past that. I want to say to her HEY LADY!!!!
YOU HAD 2 DDB REPS BUST THEIR BEHINDS for a long time and the
original DDB Rep busted her behind for YEARS on this case and
she should say something !!!

I know I may not know everything about what communication may
or may not have happened between the DDB president and her reps
but its really bugging me that I have not seen her post anything
in her email newsletter that I get.

Sorry to have gone on so long.

If anyone knows if anyone emailed that newspaper could you post about it.

thanks.

Its possible that Tammy is too busy with the "Valentine campaign" to
attend to her emails properly right now. Or maybe she didn't get your
email. Try her again after Valentines Day-she may be more available then.

I agree...

I think these are the kind of things we can all do to keep the memory of Peppy living in all of us.  I personally want to thank all that did as much as they could. She is already honored in those that fought for her and continue to keep her memory alive now.
Post the story where ever it makes sense and continue to help to lobby for better laws in your state, that is what we can all do.

Good night all,

here is my contribution please feel free to find a way to shorten it if you can! or add your own, then we can have It pop up absoultely everywhere even at fundraisers etc....we can mention in any letter that we want any changes to be in her name.

Peppy, a female husky caged alone for 16 years,in all weather, died January 6th, 2009  having rarely left her backyard prison. Please consider her suffering and help create stricter laws concerning chained and penned dogs!

I was thinking the same thing, like "Peppy's Law", etc.  I was driving down the street the other day and I saw a beautiful husky wagging its tail all happy to be walking with their owner.  I couldn' help but get teary-eyed thinking about Peppy and saying to myself "that could have been her".

I really think we should name any lobbying done for chaining and penning law changes, any fundraising, in her name..any letters sent, any corrospondance Issued, to any lawmaker should have a generic, brief paragraph about what Peppy went thru, and ask others to do the same let people see this same story everywhere, come up on as many mails as possible!! so we feel she is getting some justice EVERYONE add it as a quick, signature to all mail going out to any animal lobbyists, lawmakers .legislature, etc..If anyone can think of a way to condense her story Into something we could all use on certain mails please offer it up!

What if we contributed to a memorial (newspaper) "sponsored" by DDB?
We could use generic wording and not use owner's info.
Would DDB, as an organization, give it's approval? Do we need it?

You'll have the other side of the argument:
"Peppy rec'd good care...she lived to be 16 yrs old"
Could negate the message we are attempting to send. Something to
consider.

I just think we should memorialize Peppy in some way. She deserves to be remembered by those who knew her and learned about by those who don't yet. Can't we still do something like that?

Seems to have just "died out". Don't feel guilty, none of us really
knew how to fix it and when the law says something's legal, there's no
legal remedy. The only thing that could've been done is to steal her
and that was very risky so those who were nearby wouldn't take the chance.

The owner is the one who kept her that way and he is responsible for
the life she lived. Until we can change the law, all we can do it
pressure and educate people to do the right thing. If they choose not
to, we can't blame ourselves. We tried.

I really think we should name any lobbying done for chaining and penning law changes, any fundraising, in her name..any letters sent, any corrospondance Issued, to any lawmaker should have a generic, brief paragraph about what Peppy went thru, and ask others to do the same let people see this same story everywhere, come up on as many mails as possible!! so we feel she is getting some justice EVERYONE add it as a quick, signature to all mail going out to any animal lobbyists, lawmakers.legislature, etc..If anyone can think of a way to condense her story Into something we could all use on certain mails please offer it up!

PETS ARE NOT DISPOSABLE!

Something to
consider.

I would have been happy to contribute to a memorial....
However, I'll share a few thoughts I've had, and my reasons for
not "pushing" this issue.

First, publicizing a photo of Peppy would have been very risky
*depending on* what text was added....too open to a lawsuit by her
(freaking) "owner". And remember, he might have cause, as he
was "LEGAL"! We'd certainly have wanted to SAY something.

Would it have been possible to post her photo with something
like "Don't let your dog die a sad, lonely death like this poor
soul"?...something kind of GENERIC?? Maybe.
(I'll try to look into this further, if possible).

We are not a bona finde group, so whoever went to the newspaper and
paid for the photo would most likely be resposible.

If we pictured a *photo only* of Peppy and said something like "in
memoriam"....who are we reaching?? Most readers would think she was
just someone's pet who died.

What message would we be sending??
Sure, maybe the "owner" and a few neighbors would get the point...but
HE refused to accept responsibility when she was alive! What good
would it do? Think he cares about the lonely existence she was
living..a PACK animal subjected to life alone in a cage? I do not.
(the bastard)

Stealing her? This is not 10 or 20 years ago...this is NOW....TODAY.
And the "setting" did not lend itself to such action..at all.
Volunteers for jail time, anyone? I could elaborate on this tactic
much further, but will not, for fear of "incriminating" myself :O

Just my thoughts.

Comments?

best to all,
gail

I live in TX and in her honor have been working with the TX legislative network to change the laws here. I also send an obituray release to the local papers in NY but I can guess none printed them, and we discussed that fact that the ones that cared already new about her passing.

So if anyone else is reading this post still, do what you can in your state to strengthen the laws. If you live in NY then someone can keep the pressure on, find a lobbyist do whatever.

But I need to say, it is not fair to say we did not do enough. I hear about animals that die  out here in the county and save the ones I can. As do most caring people. That is all that one can do.

Penny will never be forgotten as long as a few of us continue the fight where ever we live.

We had talked about an obituary, we had talked about a memorial service, etc.
Has anyone
followed up on this?
Are we just giving up on Peppy in death as we had in life? I still feel guilty
that none of us did
anything to make a real difference in her life, I feel that we shirked our
responsibility. I know
I didn't do all I could have, and I doubt anyone else did either.

Correct on the straw, I am from farm country. The hay will get moldy if it gets wet; straw may also but is drains much better. Both are OK not ideal. But better than blankets if there is a chance of them getting wet.

TO ALL:  I mentioned the ad for Peppy, but in the last few days my thoughts are not as re-active as they were when the mention of Peppy's death hit. I personally feel that a paid ad in the local papers will not do much. The people that cared know the others that did not care will not change due to an ad.  I did however send an obituary to all so we shall see if anyone puts it in. (I will find it and post it here.) But if others feel they wish to go forward with an ad, I will be happy to chip in what I can.

I would like to have us all in our hearts make a firm commitment to never forget the long years of suffering from isolation and physical pain Peppy endured and to not drop the letter writing and do whatever we can to get the laws changed. That is the most important thing at the moment.

I am dealing with a situation near my home with a Sweet, 2yr old Pit Bull girl just about to give birth. she is out side in a small dirty pen, family is Hispanic and they feel they are doing right by her.  I mentioned I took their other dog to the vet that they were letting die a sow death from distemper.  The dog was only 8 months old, a chow. chow mix with a sweet face I will never forget.   So.... continue on, do not let anything stop this process in your own communities also.  I know HS US has issues for all of us but they also have clout and are a great resources to look up info.  We can use them or ANY agencies we connect with to get whatever we can done to change this law.  And others.

So for now I will not be e-mailing everyday, but know I am here if anyone needs anything and the spirit of sweet pup will keep us connected.

For Now,

Jan

I've been emailed by dozens of people about this dog.  I'm the one who was looking for a doghouse.  I HAVE called animal control but the people have a doghouse on the front lawn that the dog won't use so they're "legal" and there's not much anyone can do but talk to them.  The dog is loose so he could go in it if he wanted to.

She's from the Amish and thinks she treats the dog much better than anyone in her former "community".  I told her that its her responsibility to give the dog the best she can, not just the bare minimum.  Her son has allergies so she won't bring the dog inside (I always wonder if that's true).  He's such a nice dog, too.  There's also 2 cats there in the same boat--I don't even know if they're fixed.

I left a couple pamphlets on outside dog care and my phone # and asked them to call me if they wanted me to come and get the dog or if they wanted anything for their "pets" but I bet after animal control went there they won't have anything to do with me.

I don't know why they want these animals anyways.

I like it very much, effective.
Many people have worked on laws for animals in NYS. A woman named Valerie Lange teaches a class on animal law at Hudson Valley. I took the class, it was wonderful, and you learn a lot about the law and what limits we have (f or now) and what we can do with them. I would suggest taking the class. Hope this is helpful:

so does someone want to contact the person at the NY Post
who wrote the article up on Peppy to give them the update
on what has happened. Maybe the writer will do a follow up
if we ask them to ?

What do you think of that idea ?

I like it very much, effective.
Many people have worked on laws for animals in NYS. A woman named Valerie Lange teaches a class on animal law at Hudson Valley. I took the class, it was wonderful, and you learn a lot about the law and what limits we have (for now) and what we can do with them. I would suggest taking the class. Hope this is helpful:

HELLO ALL:

Any more news on the vigil?  please review the attached and give me your input. I also sent a link from the   www-in-memory - of-pets.com  site to the NY Post.  Who knows if anything will come of that.

Can someone fill me in on who has worked on the animal cruelty laws in NY and what has happened so far?  my personal e-mail is:  huskie22003@ yahoo.com  let us put a comprehensive account of what needs to happen so others can follow through easily.

How is the video coming along?  I guess it is U Tube.

Have a good evening.  Let's connect again on Sunday and those that are working on projects can give an update.

Hope I do not sound bossy. I do not intend to, it is the only way I can keep track of things for me. Getting Older!

who wrote the article up on Peppy to give them the update

Is someone contacting this person? I don't want to flood them with multiple people, but if one person is contacting them, please let them know that hay would be much better insulation from the cold than blankets. Blankets hold in water and ice and hay does not, it holds in body heat.

RE: youtube video

I haven't had a chance to work on it, I am very sick, flu. I took a
look at youtube, registered and do not know how to put together a
slideshow. I thought youtube would already have something set up
where you can add pictures, music and words, but apparently not.
Anyone familiar with making the aforementioned?
