HI Phyllis, I am not sure of this answer -- BUT, I would think that as long as there is a sponge in the water at all times, and the crabs couldn't drag it...

Hi, I have a deeper ceramic dish for the fresh water, and I just put baby seashells in the bottom of it so they can get some traction, and then the sponge sits...
