How do you put your shells for your crabbies to check out?
I just lay the extra shells in the tank down at our fresh and ocean water pond
ends. IMO this permits for the hermies to make their little mixtures of water
within their shells to their liking between the 2 ponds.
Some do use the shell bins to help keep the substrate out of the shells. But
depending on how deep it is, some of the shells on the bottom may not even be
noted by the hermies. In the wild they are scattered, not piled as in the bins.
So I am not sure if the hermies would 'dig' for the shells to try on/change
into.
And those who have little hermies do not put the shells in a bin because they
fall to the bottom and the little ones cannot get to them for changing.
