please contact your local Representatives, Senators, Governors, local political

you think they shouldn’t) .

12:29 PM To: c_mcreynolds@... Subject: 40 Days to Protect Mother
Polar Bears and Their Cubs
With elections heating up, Big Oil is desperate to get a bill passed to
drill in the Arctic Refuge.
Polar bears can't afford new drilling
in the Arctic Refuge, their most important onshore denning habitat:
· Habitat loss is
already causing some polar bears to drown.
· Industrial
chemicals have polluted their food supply, weakening their immune
systems and causing deformities.
· Increased
drilling, road building, and other activities that come with expanded
drilling could force mother bears to abandon their dens, leaving cubs
to die. Please donate now to help
protect the Arctic Refuge.
We have roughly 40
working days to protect mother polar bears and their baby cubs from a major
attack.
Why? Big Oil and their allies are feeling the heat of a close election
approaching and they want to get a bill to
drill in the Arctic Refuge passed while they still have friends in office.
We have roughly 40 days. Please help our friends at Defenders of Wildlife
hold the line against harmful Arctic drilling. Donate today: http://go.care2.com/e/MpS/QL/trmV
Polar bears have enough to worry about without harmful new drilling. Earlier
this year, more than 201,000 gallons of oil
were spilled just 30 miles west of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. The
spill went undetected for five days before someone happened to smell oil in
the area, and the apparent carelessness spurred Congressional hearings on the
safety of drilling operations in Alaska.
Oil leaks – which occur an average of 400 times a year in Alaska's nearby Prudhoe Bay
oil field – could devastate polar bears and other wildlife in the
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service, "[Polar] bears that contact
oil are likely to die."
Big Oil is NOT on our side. In the lead-up to the most recent Arctic Drilling
vote, ExxonMobil and other big oil companies ran full page ads in major
national newspapers. They flooded Senate offices with high-priced lobbyists.
And you can bet they reminded Senators of the more than $2.6 million in campaign contributions that the oil and gas
industry doled out to Senators in the 2004 election cycle.
Polar bears can't fight Big Oil's dirty drilling plan, but you and I can.
Even with all this oil money spilling into the political system, we have come
within two votes of keeping Big Oil out of our Arctic Refuge.
Your contribution will help support work to
mobilize grassroots activists, educate the media, and support work to protect
the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and other great, wild places.
Last year, Democrats and moderate Republicans worked together to keep Big Oil
out of the Arctic Refuge. We need your support to make sure they hold the
line for our treasured wildlife.
Thank you for your help,
Hilary
Stamper
Care2 and ThePetitionSite.com
P.S. With all the dangers they currently
face, polar bears can't afford new drilling in the Arctic Refuge.
Habitat loss is already forcing polar bears as far as 60 miles offshore in
their search for food, causing some to drown. Industrial chemicals have
polluted their food supply, weakening their immune systems and causing
deformities. Increased drilling, road building, and other activities that
come with expanded drilling could frighten mother bears into abandoning their
dens, leaving cubs to die. Please donate now to help protect
polar bears and their home in the Arctic Refuge.

To All,
On March 18, HHAF will have it monthly Adoption Fair in
Burlington. I will be needing help in transporting the animals from
Happy Hill to Burlington and back. The plans are to take the puppies,
some kittens that are available and if there is room some one or two
dogs. I will not be able to fit all this into my car. For the last
couple of months, my family has been trying to keep the fair alive but
we can't do it alone.
If you can help please get back to me ASAP.
Thank you,

Hi Happy Hills -
I just read your email about the Brian Cattery and wanted to ask about the
fundraiser. I'm a member of the Junior League of Greensboro and our Hands on
Help Committee is wanting to schedule a project where we can help animals. Is
this fundraiser something we could help with, or do you have any other projects
that would be better for us to assist with?
Please let me know so that I can discuss this with the committee chair. Thank
you!

During the early morning hours of January 18th 2006 our home at
Happy Hills was severely damaged by straight-line winds. The
thunderstorm was fast moving with extremely high winds. The outside
yard area had it's wire roof lifted off and the metal pole frame
severely damaged. Thanks to the staff of HHAF all of us cats were
safely closed inside the cattery structure. They had heard of the
approaching bad weather and made sure all were safely put up the
night before.
We are being temporarily housed elsewhere at the shelter for our
safety. We are eager to return to our Brian Cattery.
Happy Hills is supported almost entirely from volunteers, donations,
and sponsors. Please let our supporters know about our immediate
need. We will be holding a special fundraiser in the near future to
try to offset the repair costs.

This coming Saturday is the second Sat. in January, so we should be holding a
health check. December's had to be cancelled due to lack of volunteers. If you
are interested in helping this week starting at 11am, let me know. Also, if you
would like to help, but can't do it this Saturday or Saturdays at all, let me
know what time/day would be best and maybe we can work out a different
schedule. It's really only possible to get done when there are atleast four
volunteers present. Thanks!

Can anyone help????? Allison is a groomer in Pickens, SC and she is on the verge.
She saved three beautiful pups (below) when a man shot at them for
walking on his newly painted deck; he killed their little brother and the
memory is still with them. Every time a gun goes off--it's hunting
season---they relive the trauma. Allison has vetted them and is truly at
the end of her rope. One little girl was placed but Allison feels them
being in Pickens gives them almost no chance of adoption. Her plea below
is heartbreaking. Please help or cross post. There are so many
dogs right now but this woman could use our email power.

Subject: Re: Rescue Question...
When
does one say enough is enough? I have done all I can for these foster
dogs. Vetted, crate trained, housebroken. I have made every attempt
to socialize, to teach manners, to show them that humans are OK.
I have
not been able to heat my home to over 52 degrees, I need the money to feed
these dogs. I have no money left for gifts for my son this Christmas.
We have a budget of only $40 a week for groceries. I am still
paying off thousands in debt, due to rescue. I am not asking for money....I am begging for
homes for these girls.
When
do I say they must go, whether it
be to a rescue or to a vet to have them humanely killed? When do I say
that my soul will wither and I shall die inside because I could not help them?
When do I say, to the next person who calls me to take their dogs, 'go
ahead shoot them, just aim true'? When do I give up on the human race and
sit quietly with my own dogs, holding them close, knowing that if not for me they would have to suffer the same fate as
these girls, and know that people really do not care what happens to them?
I am
overwhelmed, beside myself and left with no alternatives. I cannot post
these girls again...I simply cannot stand the hate ridden emails, telling me I,
only I, am responsible for these girls, that I should not have taken them in,
if I could not provide for them. The only other option for them would
have been to be hunted and shot, like their brother...they are traumatized and
will forever panic when they hear a gunshot...hunting season is here right now
and they go ballistic at the sound of a gun going off....New Year's will be
hell for all of us, idiots with fireworks and dogs trying to jump through
windows or break out of crates.
I am
not a rescue group or a shelter. I do not receive donations, nor do I do
adoptions. There are no homes for medium/large breed, nearly adult dogs
in this area and I knew that. I live between two classes of people.
The ones that think any dog over 20 lbs. belongs outside, chained and the
ones who will only buy dogs from backyard breeders, because they want what they
want, when they want it and they have more money than sense.
I have
become physically ill with this. My son is suffering, my pets are
suffering, my business is suffering. I have pondered putting them down,
setting a deadline for this action and completely fallen apart just thinking
about it (as I am now). I really don't know what to do. I realize
that 98% of the dogs in our area shelter are killed, suffering the cold and
inhumane treatment by the employees for a full 5 days, before that release
comes to them....I can't place these girls there.
I
suppose what I am asking is....when do I let go of the thought that these girls
will be safe forever, in a loving home? Do I tell them that I have done
all I can, that it has to be this way, they must die? Do I tell them that
dogs from hurricane stricken areas carry more value than them? Do I tell
them that I love them, I will miss them, but I can't care for them any longer?
How do I explain to my 10 year old son, that sometimes, they have to die
even if they are safely in our home? He has been to every shelter in this
area, seen the rescue of over 1000 dogs, through our home to rescue orgs.
Do I tell him that his mom is useless in saving animals? Do I tell
him he lives in a God forsaken place that has no heart or soul? Do we
lose all hope in humanity, lock the doors and vow never to help another
creature? How can a child live in this world knowing that no one cares
about the helpless? How do I keep my heart from breaking and his hope
from dying? I am very close to a breakdown. I will never rescue
again....
I will
apologize for this rambling, this spewing of despair...maybe I just needed to
get this out....as it has been eating away at me. Perhaps I will feel
better after I hit send and wish that I had never written it. Perhaps I
will lose my mind and forget that I sent it. Perhaps someone somewhere
will read it and these girls will be safe. Perhaps I can fool myself into
believing that the world is a kind and loving place, that I won't have to kill
these girls in order to survive....I really don't know...
Picture
included, on the off chance that you don't remember who I am talking about.
Allison
ps
don't waste your time sending hate mail, I could not possibly be in more pain
than I am right now
Alison, sorry I can't help this time. I sure hope some other people will help you though.

Hi everyone,
I was wondering if any of you could possibly take in a stray cat and try to
find
it a home. I know of a cat that lives in an area where the neigborhood is
trying
the get it euthanized since it is homeless and apparently "bothers" them.
According to one neighbor it is very sweet and harmless, just in need of
some
attention. But this woman has no car and no means to take care of the cat
(though, I don't know this woman personally). If nobody has the capacity or
time right now to take of a needy cat, are there any other ideas?

The next health check will be held this Sunday, Nov. 13 (instead of Saturday, as
usual) since I have a GRE test to take on Saturday. We will begin at 11am
instead of 10am so that everyone has a chance to get there from church that
morning. I have two A&T Animal Science students coming to help out, but I am
asking for one more volunteer. With 4 people, the job will get done in no time.
Please respond if you can help out! Thanks!

My name is Faye Laverty and I have recently volunteered to help coordinate Happy
Hills volunteers for various adoption and fundraising events. Kitty Elder has
been extremely helpful in getting me started so that I can be helpful in the
coordination of these important functions. I would really like to hear from
each of you in the coming weeks so that I can begin to learn the areas in which
you are willing to help. Volunteers are the bedrock for this fabulous
organization and you can really make a difference! Please e-mail me at the
above address and let me know your preferences and when you might be available
to lend a hand!
I look forward to hearing from you!
Sure! Just let me know what time to meet you!

Candy,
I've copied Allison on this message so you have her email. She's a regular
Happy Hills volunteer.
By the way, I understand from Kitty that Sherrly's pickup with cab is
available to use for transport if she has some notice.
Marian

Hey Allison. I am heading up the booth this weekend at the DogFest. I had
received an email from an Allison (who drives a Volvo) who was willing to
help with transport. The email has evaporated.
Is this you or do you know who this is ? Thanks!

Lets keep these pets healthy so someone will be sure to give them a good
home! Please join
me if you can this Saturday (10/8) starting at 10am to participate in health
checks. We will
check the overall physical condition of every animal at Happy Hills. This is
a fun job and a
great way to meet all our new animals... and it goes by very quickly if we
have just a few
volunteers. Please contact me or reply to this email to help out!
Thanks!
