Hello,
I was curious to know what I had found in my apartment the
other day. I live in an old high-rise, but yesterday morning, I found
a large flying insect lying on the floor, and I was up quite late the
night before, and I don't recall seeing anything flying around late
that night. I have been a city girl for quite some time now, and I
am used to seeing cockroaches, silverfishes, centipedes, but
I've never seen anything like this one before.
I should have taken a picture of it, but I wasn't thinking, so I
guess I will have to describe it as best as possible:
The insect was almost 1.25 -2 inches long and it was definitely
not a cockroach. The body of this insects was closer to a fly,
wasp, or mosquito. The color of this flying insect was a brown to
light brown color, very faint, but visible horizontal stripes on the
body. The wings were tinted brown and not clear, and they were
about as long as the body. The six, dark, reddish-brown legs
were as long as a city cockroach. It kind of looked like a very
large mosquito, wasp or fly. I was too scared to get too close to it
- sorry. A friend of mine sent me a picture of a crane fly, but the
legs were too long and the wings were too long and clear to be
that of a crane fly. If anyone can help me or send me a picture, I
would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you. :)
