Hi
Just popped over from the Kodak Discussion Board. What a great idea this is.
Last year when the Kodak board, at the end of all the excitement, went dead
it was very lonely. I only posted a couple of times but read nearly all of
them. I nearly missed the start of this year but for the fact I was going
through clearing old bookmarks when the Kodak bookmark led me to the
'magazine' and I was hooked again!!
I 'watch' from my office in San Diego but am originally from the UK.

Look forward to a lively board.

ttfn
Jane

It's me, the former Linda B., using my beloved nickname "Plant Lady"
which Ann H. bestowed on me. I like Baerbel's idea for the Members
list and will check it out next. This is all quite new to me and it
took a while to get set up, but I'm ready to go! I marked the no-
emails button as Mt. Woman suggested 'cause I don't want Yahoo spam,
but my buds can reach me at my new email address:
plantldy@.... I also like the idea of the group
remaining anonymous so we don't get weirdos in here. We're weird
enough! ;-)

So glad we can be together until next spring. I would miss all of
you so much!

Hi All,

This is Carol S. from Brockport. It's great to be here finally. I
always seem to have trouble getting onto these Yahoo things! But, as
you can see I finally figured it out.

Hope everyone has a wonderful holiday week and weekend. I'll be
lurking when possible.

Thank you Mt. Woman for setting this up so we can all stay together.

I agree with "ann"(Sorry, forgot to COPY your handle) that it would
be
wise to keep this discussion unlisted for the time being...just
because
our "Kodak group" is civil and respectful. The lack of "flaming" over
the last 4 months has been amazing and wonderful.

Also, I am aware that we have already reached at least 300 members on
the Kodak board, have we not? (Correct me please, if I am way off
base.)
I am so pleased that this has been set up so that we can continue to
chat through the summer.
In case I don't get back here again today, I wish all my new American
correspondents here a "Glorious Fourth!"

Marlene: we may never know why the two eggs didn't hatch. The basic
reason has been announced -- they were not fertile (had no embryo.)

The reason why that happened may or may not be being tested. If it
is, it could take weeks or months, because it's a lengthy process
involving testing for the presence of various chemicals that may or
may not be present. So scientists take an informed "guess" at what
might be the problem and test for the presence of that. If it's not
there, they know it wasn't "compound X" but they don't know whether
or not it was "compound Y". This can go on for a long while, and get
very expensive.

Other reasons might be a very young and not fully mature sire with a
low sperm count or an older mother with eggs that just are infertile.
I'm not saying that either of these are the case, but they COULD be
and only future performance would indicate that.

Other causes might be weather related -- it did get pretty cold while
they eggs were very young. Maybe that had something to do with it.

The problem with science is that just ruling out a lot of factors
doesn't always provide the answer. It's much easier to say what it
was NOT than to say what it was.

Just me the *lurker* (Marlene) at the nest box! Posted several times,
I came across the site just as the hatching occurred.
I miss the *Falcon Family* as I viewed them many times each and every
day.
Live in North Hills California, have 2 Basset Hounds (note name
hooverdolly) you may all go view them if you desire.
http://www.geocities.com/hooverdolly/
I would really like to know if anyone has heard any news as to why
the
other eggs did not hatch?
Thanks for the great site, I did throughly enjoy this, and hope to
return to the *nesting box* next year for a family reunion!

Had the worst time coming up with an ID, so finally made it
maryandhoward. The Howard portion will probably not take part, but
this is

"Mary in Hammondsport."

By the way, Hammondsport is a small town about 60 miles due south of
Rochester. It's on Keuka Lake, which is shaped like the letter "Y".
We have lived here for almost 13 years now. I was born and brought up
about 25 or so miles to the north-northwest of here, in another
little Finger Lakes town called Honeoye, which is on Honeoye Lake.
All of these lakes are Indian names -- the Seneca branch of the
Iroquois Confederacy lived here and the names are mangled English
versions of what they settlers thought the Iroquois names were. At
any rate, it's a great place to live.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we had wild falcons down here in
the Lakes -- there are all sorts of cliffs where they could live. If
not, maybe in a few years. In the meantime, one of our favorite bird
sightings is to look for the heron who regularly flies up Cold Brook
to the fish hatchery about 3 miles south of here. He goes at about
noon -- apparently for lunch!

Looking forward to being on the list.

NOTICE: be sure to choose the correct 'email option' for
yourself; "individual emails" will fill your inbox in a minute..as
prolific as we are! Find the choices in "Edit my membership" at right
above. I chose 'no email' and just read all the messages here.
Or 'daily digest' will send the messages from a day.

I am so glad to see you-all showing up! It looks like it may work for
us! I will try to get the "file notification' email to the group to
not email, so that the file only comes through in the individual's
post.

Also, I will set up photo albums for us.

I am working today, so this is on its own until 4pm central.

ENJOY!

Hi Folks,
as more and more folks check in using new IDs due to signing up with
Yahoo, it gets complicated keeping the new and old names in sync (at
least for me). Couldn't it make sense to enter the name you used on
the forum as the additional (and optional) "real name" in the
membership-details? With that we'd have an easy cross-reference for
the names just by clicking on "Members" in the menue-bar to the left.
What do you think?

Cheers
Baerbel

Hi,

I haven't posted often on the discussion board, but my ID there is
Nancyindg.

I wanted to see if I could upload photos and just found that I was
successful in uploading the very last frame of Isis - just before
she fledged.

Here is the URL:

In case anyone wants to upload a photo you need to go to the
group website, click on "Files" and follow the easy instructions.

Hi, This is Vanda Kight. I was pretty much silent on the Kodak site,
since I am not an expert with computers or falcons, though I love
both. I hope to open up more here. I am a divorced, empty-nester
with four cats and a 13 year old dog. I live in mid-west Georgia, 75
miles south west of Atlanta, on the Georgia/Alabama border. I am an
RN who works in a Telemetry Unit of a Hospital. I love animals,
plants, theater, symphony, reading, gardening. I also work with the
local Humane Society. I hope I can contribute more to this site.

Hopefully we will soon get used to how this system works. I think we

Shaky's site will still work because they are actually web addresses.

Thanks, Mt.Woman, for setting this up and choosing to keep it private

Well, you made it here! WELCOME! I am excited about creating this way
to continue communicating when the Kodak board drops off. Here's some
info for you all: this board is UN-MODERATED, so what is written
posts! It is also not listed in the directory (for now) and can only
be accessed through the URL being passed along. I can change this
later, if we find that it would be better to have it listed(I just
started out this way to discouarge "bad" postings). Well..let's get
started....
