We would like to welcome the new members
to Monkey Tales.
Come Meet The Monkeys, see what they were,
who they have become and what they are up
to now.
This issue will feature Magan, Bobby Mann
and JJ who share their enclosure with Chico,
Sybill, Maxine and Alex who will be featured
in the March 2005 issue of Monkey Tales.
Bobby Mann is a 16 year old White Front
Capuchin. He had been used to entertain
at children's parties in Texas. When being
surrendered to Mindy's in July 1993, at
the age of 5, his owner stated that he was
not a nice monkey. Since he has been at
Mindy's, it has been found that he is a
VERY NICE MONKEY. He has a very important
self appointed job. Bobby Mann is the
official taste test monkey. He will taste
his apple or what ever treat is set out,
then becomes very vocal calling all of the
others to come and see what he has found.
He chatters loudly until everyone arrives.
Magan is a White Front Brown Capuchin who
was born in April 1996. She came from a
very loving home in April 1998. Her owner,
a young woman, was diagnosed with terminal
cancer, and had to find someone who would
care for her pet with the same love that
she would have liked to be able to provide.
Hopefully, she received a great deal of
comfort knowing that Magan was going to
be spending the remainder of her life at
Mindy's. Magan is the official lock checker.
Whenever someone has been inside cleaning
her enclosure, she always rushes over to
shake the lock, just hoping that someone
has left without double checking that it
was secure. In almost 7 years, she has
never found it unlocked, but she keeps
trying. If you get too close to the cage
while working, Magan loves to reach
through the wire and try to pinch you.
JJ is an 9 year old White Front Black
Capuchin who arrived in April 2002.
His former owners contacted Linda on
a Saturday night, stating that he was
getting aggressive, and they had no
place to keep him. By Sunday he was
at Mindy's. After being fed an improper
diet he was extremely thin when he
arrived. He has now begun to put on
some weight. He seems to be right at
home with the other capuchins. Bobby
Mann and Alex took to him immediately.
Bobby Mann and JJ spend hours grooming
each other. One of JJ's favorite past
times is laying on a platform in front
of the fan that is kept circulating in
the monkey house when it is warm.
Everyone in this troop gets along so well
together. When JJ arrived he was accepted
immediately. He has such a wonderful
personality. JJ and Bobby Mann are the
best of friends. They even sleep together,
sharing a blanket in one house, while the
others sleep together in a second house.
During the day, all of the monkeys go back
and forth from house to house. Due to all
of the jumping, running and climbing that
JJ does, he is no longer thin, and is hard
to tell apart from Alex. Everyone enjoys
playing by themselves with toys, just as
much as they enjoy an exciting game of tag.
Sometimes, Bobby Mann, Alex and JJ can be
seen just chasing each other around in
circles, and having a ball doing it. They
all enjoy playing with and bouncing any
type of balls, especially JJ. Magan loves
to play with anything that makes noise.
The more noise she can make, the happier
she is. Like many of the monkeys at Mindy's,
they all love riding toys. They also love
to sit and groom and be groomed. They have
a favorite snack, Welch's Fruit Snacks.
These are made with real juice and are
in the shape of the actual fruit. Their
favorites are Concord Grape and Strawberry.

Mindy's has the largest enclosures of any
Primate Sanctuary, complete with wooden
shelves and perches for the monkeys to sit
on and climb to. Please bear in mind that
many of the pictures are taken at an angle,
as the monkeys can be sitting as high as
15 feet up in the air. This could make the
enclosures look smaller than they actually
are.

HOW YOU CAN HELP
When shopping online, please check to
see if the store that you will be making
your purchases from is listed with
http://www.igive.com If it is and you
list Mindy's as your charity of choice
the sanctuary will receive a portion of
your purchase donated, at no cost to you.
The amount donated varies by store.
For your convenience, donations can be
made online by clicking on "Make A Donation"
on the Mindy's homepage
http://www.mindysmem.org You can make a
donation to the Building Fund to help raise
funds for housing future residents. This
fund was established after funds were not
raised quickly enough to rescue two research
monkeys, Ben and Norman, before they were
sold back into research. You can also
donate to the Mindy's General Fund.
If you know an animal lover and don't
know what to give as a gift, we have
the solution. Send a donation in their
name and a card will be sent letting
them know you have made the donation.
