WELL, there's homemade and there's HOMEMADE!

What a joke..... plywood box on wheels... Two axles, but holycow!!!

two sheets of 3/4" plywood for the floor! "It'll hold horses, I put five
steers in there."

1/2 Plywood walls -- decrepiet steers maybe!!!

Couldn't even trust it even with a rebuild- really floor metal walls... the
frame was soft metal instead of hardened steel.

Oh, well, something will come along... Something I would TRUST, even for
putting little ponies in!!!

I have the PBS series based on the books--- very good!!! I just got the
whole book series in the mail today... have to torture my kids by reading
it aloud to them!!! They love "The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe",
which we have in cartoon form, but steadfastly refuse to watch the live
actors version... They did any excellent job with the special effects
condiering they made it quite a few years ago.... the centaur looks really
real!

I first picked up the series because of"The Hoirse and His Boy" I loved
the talking horse's attitude!

Anybody interested in Rescue and Premarin foals.....(use the link below to
) GO to the NMPR site... got to the Horselinks, then choose Rescues from
there and you will find a long list of Horse Rescue sites... we will have
them arranged by state soon....

Pegasus Foundation has some really good infor on PMU Farms rescue... it
happens in September when the PMU Farms auction off all their foals. They
have a reallly great info packet... Their main focus is rescue for TB race
geldings... mares have alife after recing as do stallions... but what about
the geldings???

You can go by:

http://www.geocities.com/heartland/Acres/7930/

and take a look- it's easiest in frames.. but I alsways give people a
choice as some just don't LIKE frames!!! Me, I love 'em makes it so much
easier than backing up everywhere.

See how I set that one up and see if you like that layout... I am open to
suggestions! We can either have me set up and edit everything, or just
have a site that everybody can go and edit their own stuff.... I will keep
current backups of it all incase anybody flubs up! But that never happens
DOES IT???

That way you can all learn to use the basic editor provided by angelfire
and learn to make your own pages ( for those that don't know how yet!)

Hi Heather!

What do you do with your ponies? They sound like lovely crosses. When I was 9
I had a welsh/conammara cross that I loved dearly. We showed walk trot and
some canter flat classes. I was just learning to jump back then. He would
almost never canter for me (my legs were VERY short), so I had an older girl
show him in pony hunter classes at the big shows. I was 14 when I got my first
Morgan. I still have her...she is going to have another baby for me soon.

Tell us about your ponies...

Intro time--
I got started in Morgans in 1979 & our first foals arrived in 1983. We moved
up here in the hills back in '83 also. This is So. Calif. back on a dirt road
& the way So. Calif used to be!
We currently have 22 Morgans, of which 11 are for sale since we are turning
from breeding to other horsey ventures. I am starting a boarding business that
will specialize in individual care for each horse & is wholistic. I also offer
training for young horses.
One of the sales horses is our stallion Westy--black, 14.1 hands. He sires
really neat trail horses. Of the pony sized ones we also have Nyoka, who is
maybe 13.3 hands, red chestnut, in training & will be a tough using horse. She
needs a job to do & a person to love her. It is looking like the 3 yr filly,
Dream Singer, will be pony size also. I haven't measured her for a while but
she is about 14 hands now, maybe. She will be a sweet family pleasure horse.
I'm having a good time working with the colts--the one here for training & my
own, especially my special horse-of-my-heart Spirit Seeker in whose eyes you
can see the cosmos.

Greetings ListMembers!

I'm Darrell Charlton, I live Arco, Idaho which is in the southeastern part of
the state. I'm married, 18 years in July, and have two sons, David 15 and Eric
13, neither of which are interested in horses. I am a vegetarian for ethical
and spiritual reasons. I've been actively involved with horses for almost 25
years now. We use the prefix Narnia for our animals. It is derived from C. S.
Lewis's "The Chronicles of Narnia". It is the land where the animals speak. It
was because of my first horse, a Morgan named Gay's Candle Light, that I met my
wife. We were married on horseback and our ring bearer rode a small Shetland
pony cross. I have had a deep attachment to horses since my early childhood. I
can remember when my mother would take me to the amusement park and let me ride
the ponies. When I was fortunate I'd get a double ride and wail like the
dickens when I had to get off. So there are some of us guys out here that feel
the sun rises and sets on HORSES! So that I don't ruffle any feathers during
group discussions I want everyone to know, up front, that I am a VERY
opinionated person and that my opinions are just that...my own. Trying to walk
one's own belief system is enough of a challenge so I won't presume to walk
another's. I believe that it is possible to agree to disagree on issues and
leave it at that. My intent is not to cause others distress but I will question
inconsistencies when they arise during discussions.

Our extended family consists of:

Horses: one 5 year old Morgan mare, Questor's Mystique, chestnut with flaxen
mane and tail, 14.3 hands; one 16 year old Mini mare, Tiny Acres Jewell,
strawberry roan with silver mane and tail, 7.2 hands; and a 6 year old Mini
stallion, Narnia Farms Black Satin Knight, black, 8.0 hands.

Dogs: one 3 year old male Golden Retriever, Azland, and one 10 year old blue
Great Dane bitch, Star

Cat: one black and white mixed breed named Patches

Bird: one gray, yellow and white Cockatiel named Sebastian

Guinea Pig: one new addition, named Penny

Fish: one bottom feeder unnamed

We got the Minis in October, 1992, three months after I lost Candle to the
stress associated with a bad colic. I was completely miserable without a horse
around. I was looking for a one to three year old Mini filly when I came across
Jewell who needed a loving home where she wouldn't have to compete with other
horses. We were offered a package deal that included 4 month old Knight, who
was not related to Jewell. He is my first stallion and has taught me a lot
about the differences between stallions when compared to mares and geldings.
Alas, even with the Minis I still missed Candle and wanted another Morgan like
her. In 1995 found an internet ad, from California, for a two year old Morgan
filly, chestnut with a flaxen mane and tail, just like Candle was! I e-mailed
her breeder and asked if she was still available and requested a video of her.
As soon as the video arrived and I watched it I knew that she was destined to
become a part of my life. Mystique in May of 1996 a few weeks before her 3rd
birthday. She has turned out to be everything I had hoped for and more. Now
all I need to do is get off my duff and get on with her training.

We got Azland about a month after I lost my 8 year old fawn Great Dane,
RazMaTaz, to bone cancer. I held Razzy in my lap when he was euthanized after
his leg with the bone cancer had fractured. Knowing that the leg would not heal
because of the cancer I knew that eutanasia was the only option at that point.
It was a very humbling experience to be with a beloved companion through the
death and dying process. I've noticed that our animal companions have picked us
rather than the other way around.

So that the listmembers have an understanding on how I feel about and relate to
animals, the following information is offered. I believe that animals, like
humans, are living breathing souls. That they have as much right to a happy and
safe life here as we humans do. I do NOT believe that they are here for us but
rather are here WITH us. I believe that they are our spiritual equals, yet
different. I believe in a mystical approach to life and that there is a lot
that we humans can learn from animals if we have an open heart and mind. I
believe that, in many respects, animals are closer to their spiritual nature
that we humans are. Hmmm, some trivia for you folks... How many of you know
that the word animal is derived from the Latin word anima, which means soul or
breath of life? Both my wife and I have attended basic and advanced workshops
in telepathic communication with animals facilitated by Penelope Smith.
Information on this topic can be found at:
http://www.cyberark.com/animal/telepath.htm I am not interested in breeding
horses but I do find the little ones precious. I believe that for any soul I
have a part of bringing into this world that I have a responsibility for its
well being for as long as it lives. That responsibility is the largest part of
the reason that I have chosen not to breed and produce more little ones. That
and the horse slaughter industry...

Correspondence and questions are welcomed. May the Great Spirit of All That Is
guide and keep all of you...

Warmly,
Darrell

Oh trying to get insider information before the article comes out in
Rainbow huh? Well Yellow Bird was definately a horse before his time, a
palomino show horse back in the 60's and 70's, and even park horse at
that. He was shown in everything from park and In-hand to dressage (in
his very late years). He was even trained and shown by Phil Price at one
time. Anyway Yellow Bird was bred by Mel Frandsen (breeder of that
gorgeous hunk Omar Sherrif - among many many others). His sire was
Stellar, so he was a 1/2 brother to Omar Sherrif. As far as I can
remember I had always adored Omar Sherrif in the old TMH mags. All I
could think was I wanted one just like him. Well time past, about 3
years and I had realized my passion for the colorful Morgan. Little did
I know that at one point in time I would own a son of his 1/2 brother
with the palomino color. The other horses I admired so much were The
Brown Falcon and Easter Twilight. It must have been fate that I ended up
with my stallion. I knew Yellow Bird was leased to a breeder in NY for 1
year. So I took a shot and called to see if 5 years later she had
something from that time. She did not have anything advertised in fact
was not active in AMHA any longer. So it ends up that his dam was an
Easter Twilight gr. daughter. So little by little through luck and
diligence I've watched my dreams become reality. My mares for the most
part are Funquest (Brown Falcon) and Flyhawk (through Warhawk) so I've
pretty much have the horses I've always dreamed about. Sorry to ramble
on so, I guess I'm feeling talkative today.

I don't know whether this attachment will come through but I'm going to
try and send a pedigree of the stallion - since that's what you asked
about.

If it doesn't come through go to -

i heard that you shouldn't tie a youngster until they reach two... Sounds a
bit wierd... My crazy quarab has learned to tie and to stake out (if I let
him totally go, I'm not sure he'd remember how to get caught!!!)

I only just wrapped the lead around the tie post the first few times I tied
him... and held onto the end. Eventaully I got himso that I could leave a
step aor too away and he learned to stay and not to follow...

As to tethering... .I use the method written by... oops can't rememer who!!
Ina Ish?? no, maybe Ellie Mason... in Classic Morgan Admirers. They had
no pasture, (back in the old days) and all her horses were tethered out
with water and moved daily. They were on chains with a hunk of hose split
and covering the first 12' (where the horse can encoutner it) Chain is best
as it is heavy and doesn't stretch out to encumber the horse. The hose
protects them while learning to get their feet out of the way!

I have taught all my horses this method as sometime they escape or whatever
and there's no way to fix the pen at night. So just tether them out! I
always have a dog chain around soemwhere!

Additionally all my horses know how to stand tied all night. I leave jsut
enough rope to reach the ground and they can reach their hay. Esier to
teach them at home where you cna control the environment than to try to
teach them to tie to the trailer for the nite at a trail ride or horse
show! My big mare is so comfortable with this arrangement that she can lay
down and sleep!!! Yikes!

between that and hobble she is happy anywhere!!!

The page can be maintianed by me, or we can share the password and each
learn to edit our own stuff... It's a great way to learn web programming!

I was figuring Angelfire, since many people can't seem to get into
geocities and Angelfire allows you to turn off the pop up windows, rather
than having to place the geoguide code on each page and the assorted
hassles that go along with it....

I may post another message or two, but I too am heading home to try to
squeeze in some time with the ponies that I didn't get to work with this
morning.... that little quarab does best if he's worked daily or else he
forgets everything!

here's the first posts to the list....

From: morganpony@.../slwalker@...

My name is Susan Walker. Many of you have already met me via the Morgan
webring.
But I will tell you a bit about myself.

I live in SilverBow, MT. My place is Juniper Acres Farm, where I raise
Morgan ponies under the farm name of JustAmere Morgans & Ponies. We have
about 11 acres on which I keep my 57+" Morgan mare, "JustAmere Bridger Ida
Lee" (or Dali' as she is known); her 1/2 Miniature daughter, "JustAmere
Morgan Petite" (Petey); and 1/2 Shetland son, "JustAmere Akuma" (Kuma).
Kuma is by our own Classic Shetland Stallion "JustAmere Golden Pony
Shogun". Shogun is a 52" red roan and just the greatest non-Morgan I've
ever met!

I am married to a wonderful (non-horsey) guy who supports me in whatever I
do! We have four children, which we homeschool - three boys and a girl.
Other items change on a regular basis!

I will post more in a bit.

Hope to hear from all of you soon.

We have set up our back area for boarding horses and hope to begin this
summer. It will be a very special place. All horses will be given free
choice hay access, as well as a daily grain ration. We will make sure all
boarders are wormed at the same routine as our own horses to make
maintanence easier. Our paddocks are 20'x 100', I hate seeng a horse
confined to a stall or stall sized paddock. We are devoted to longterm care.
You can learn more about us by visitng :
httpL//www.angelfire.com/mt/juniperacres/

We also are very interested in natural horsemanship methods. I retrained my
MOrgan mare using natural/tackless methods. She really likes it. It is so
much easier to "talk " with a horse by body language. They really
understand and respect you for it.

Now all my babies are trained in this way. I am working with our 97 Quarab
colt, who is for sale by the way :) He was really flighty, but is really
taking to his training. He is still a bit wierd in the stall, but is
perfect onlead. He was halter broken and lead trained in one lesson!

He has really been a challenge, but I feel that since I helped to bring him
into this world, I owe him the time to train him so that he is not abused
or sent to slaughter. So many people are unaware of the personality of
young Arabians. I know I sure was! My baby Morgans practically train
themselves and are people lovers from day one!

Well, I'll go for now and post more later!

Hi, Kat....

Have you been by NMPR??? it's at http://www.angelfire.com/mi/morganpony/

It has registration info, links to our bulletin board and sales listings.
If you mail complete sales info to me either privately or to the list -
advertising is ok here, I can place it on the text ads at the site.

We had a site at Geocities, but it is now the Morgan Pony Fanciers Page as
they are getting more strict about commercial sites. That one is :
http://www.geocities.com/heartland/meadows/8055/

It is basically a mirror of the NMPR site, but has no registration
applications to view.

Anybody who wants, can request a free copy of our newsletter... jsut send
you address to me privately.

Many people have been intrigued by my Morgan and Mini cross. I am
preparing an article on it for the Morgan Pony Express the newsletter of
the NAtional Morgan Pony Registry, but I will tell the short version here.

The most common question is: Was it done with AI? Actually, no. It was live
cover. The little guy really needed a stepladder as my Mare is 57+ inches
tall and he stands only 32". (I think I mistyped it in the previous note!)

Shadow breeds larger mares all the time so he's pretty used to the idea and
as far as he's concerned he's just a tough and macho as the big guys! For
most mares, he just mounts from ground level while they stand in a small
depression. But for Dali' Darrel was required to be a bit more inventive.
He tried using the back of his horsetrailer, but it wasn't quite high
enough, so he put the trailer up on trailer ramps and Shadow did the dirty
deed! We also sent our QH pony (14.0) to bred at the same time, but
unfortuantely she didn't settle.

Dali's next breeding was to our 52" classic Shetland. She stood on the
lower level of our garden terrace (all by herslf) while I pointed Shogun in
the right direction. He also is pretty used to bigger mares as the old
couple I bought him from were breeding him to Arab mares for refined kid's
ponies. When Shogun breeds mares more his size, such as our QH pony, he
uses the mare in a hole method.

Dali' is due next month by a 14.0 black Arab. She really gave me a dirty
look when he climbed aboard! Her eyeball rolled and she said.... "I like
the little guys better!"

I think that Mini's are a great choice for maiden mares. Get's them used to
the idea of breeding and makes for an easy first birth. I never measured
the foal at birth, but at three months she could still walk under momma's
belly!

Many people ask: "How big a stallion can I breed to my pony mare?"

There is no pat answer to the question... But a mare *Should* be able to
foal easily to a stallion upto a foot taller than them.

A lady in Co wrote about her Morgan ponies....

"The dark one "Smokey" is by of my 14 hand Morgan stallion and out of a 50"
mare (12.2 hands) he is 13.l now.

The spotted one is out of a 40 inch mare (10 hands) and a by a 14.2 Morgan
stallion , he is 12.2 now"

She included photos which will come out in a future newsletter and
eventually be posted on the NMPR website.

Often the best choice as we noted before is to breed your larger mare to a
smaller stallion, but many people believe that their Morgan mare should
only have Morgan foals, while a Morgan stallion after serving his booked
mares shoudl go on to "improve" grade mares. Either way the result is
still the same- sweet Morgan ponies, whether for kids or driving.....

Sometimes that is better, even with all the hassles of teasing and getting
your mare to the stud's. You are less herd bound and get a chance to
choose a new stallion anytime you can afford one!

Too often people feel compelled to use their stallion for _all_ their mares
since they already have him!

I know Shogun gets pretty irate when he sees "HIS" girls again after they
been bred out... talk about Jealous! HEy, boy.,... they don't care that
you spend all you time over at the corner trying to romance that GIANT QH
mare.... He's trying to convince her that she should dump that bloated
gelding she's living with and come meet a real MAN!!!!

there are a few Morgan Welsh crosses listed on the NMPR sales listing... It
is a pretty common cross... great pony hunters! Morabs of course are also
very common -something to do with the bitty size of most Arabs :)
Grade/Morgans are probably the next most popular cross....

On MM a while back, they were discussing someone who was breeding Hackney
ponies with Morgans.... much the same as crossing a Modern Shetland with a
Morgan.

Of course you've already heard about my Morgan Mini and Morgan Shetland-
would that be a Shetmore.... ha! dont' need them to sh*tmore!

At MorganMail (paid subscription email list) we have a members page so
everybody can see where everyone is from even after we've finished our
introductions.

I manage that page for them at geocities.

Would anybody like something like that for our list???? IT allows people
who dont' have websites to post photos of their horses, they are hosted at
our website. If you do have a website, then the members page is linked to
your main webpage. This allows us to post sales listing for a longer
duration than a post to the list would last, and post foal
announcements.... etc...

Please let me know!

If anybody wants to go and see the digests for morganpony.... go to:

http://www.onelist.com

choose "find a list" from the side bar. then choose "animals" from the
screen that comes up. Then choose "horses" on the next screen,
scroll doen to the "M"s and find morganpony then click on the name.

Or you can enter morganpony in the search field....

this will bring a screen that allows you to view the archives of the list
in a digest version.... (we've only been up for a couple of days and just
now have nine members!)

The earlier ones aren't available.... I didn't check mark to have archives
-oops! But they should be available tomorrow.... if anyone wants the first
couple of messages, I have some of them, just let me know....or maybe one
of the members on digest can help you out!

If you are siged up for single messages, use the side bar at onelist to
edit your profile, there you will see a way to choose digest instead.

I am on here twice...once with single messages - once with digest... In
case I miss any messages. So you may see notes from me under both names.

I have read about your "exploits" :0 in Classic Morgan Admirers! I would
love to hear about how your little guy does. NMPR would love to hear also,
it would be nice to do an article on Driving ponies.

For some of us driving is the best use of our little ponies. I hope to get
all the goodies and learn to drive soon. Then I could give all the kids a
ride at once... amybe that way I could carve out more time to ride and
train!!!

Actually my friend who owns Arabs would also be a good choice for a horse
driver. She has a bad back and cant' take the jostling of riding (esp.
those bouncy ARABS :-) --- I'll get her over to Morgans eventually!) and
she wants to learn with me. One of her stallions used to be trained to
drive, now if we can just get our part figured out!!!!

My mare had the general concept down. She drives in longlines, but it's a
long way from long lines to cart!

See ya'

Oouuu, Trophy is a beautiful horse. I really like his looks! I wished to
find something with Trophy lines, but my mare is mostly UVM topside and
WWF bottomside (Jub. King/ Linsley)

I don't show now, farm and toomany kids :)

but I used to ride hunter/jumper, huntseat, stockseat, some dressage (hot
mare I was trying to mellow out) and gymkana. I did this all on one horse
which is why I chose Morgans... For their versatility!

Yes, very few of us actually breed specifically FOR ponies, but they come
out of "regular" size lines often enough to deserve support! I bred my 1/2
Morgans to have great kids ponies for my young 'uns....

Hi all.
Guess I should intro myself and my gang also. My name is Karen 'Korky'
Kramer, and my husband and I own a small Morgan farm about 40 miles wnw of
Detroit where we concentrate on full Lippitt Morgan breeding. We do not own
a stallion at this time but do offer foals for sale occassionally. This
year our mare, Patoka Delilah, delivered a beautiful bay filly by Ryegate
Syndicate. From the moment I first saw Katie wet on the straw (I heard the
mare on the monitor but was a little late getting to the barn) I knew she
was a keeper. I intend to 'pair' her with my carriage driving mare, Dolly.
I also have a sweet 4 yr old gelding, who has just started his driving
career geared towards Performance Tests, and mentioned to my husband that
perhaps a four-in-hand might be in our future. (Of course, he just rolled
his eyes and nodded.)
Our 'pony' Morgan is 14.1 h Rushbruk Figurine - small but mighty and totally
fearless. What a heart and mind this one has! But above all else, this
girl loves kids. Following next years foal, she will return to being a
kids' mount for our granddaughter.
I am employed full time as an office manager, but in my 'spare time' I also
am editor for the Lipppitt Morgan Breeders' Association, a group dedicated
to the preservation and promotion of the Lippitt Morgan.
You can see our gang and learn alittle about the Lippitt family of Morgan
horses on my farm website or "The Lippitt Barn", website for the Lippitt
Morgan Breeders Association.
After seeing so many nice crosses of Morgan horses to all types of other
breeds, I am looking forward to learning about what these crosses are doing
out there. Thanks for including me in your new list.
