Hermit, Haven't seen you post in some time or have I missed the post? Is all well with you in your slice of the forest? The cold wet winter has been harder on...
Iona, thanks for the message. I have been offline since January 2 and just getting back on. Lightening clobbered my new computer and had to take it two...

For some reason my males are not fighting. I must wonder if it has to do with their being raised by hand with my children "training" them to perch, etc. ...

You are lucky or maybe it is the breed of chickens you have. Some breeds are just more aggressive than others. I wish my boys were as tractable as yours....
I am talking about peacocks not chickens, Iona. The males are displaying and screaming now but still no aggressive behavior. I am taking the wait and see...

Well I am glad to see someone else has problems with guineas and peas. I have finally given up on the guineas and they are my 2nd favorite bird. I even tried...
No problems here with guineas and peas for the peas keep the guineas on the run with quick jabs from those pointed beaks. The guineas keep the chickens on the...
After I wrote that post it dawned on me you were talking about peas. Sorry. But my peas are scrapping all over the place even though they free range. The...
We're finally moving out of the city this month, to a place on 2 acres zoned ok for peafowl. We've gathered lots of info from the group and now need to decide...
The pen and shelter needs to be at least 7 feet tall for tail room when the male presents. Put the pen and shelter in an area that drains well or build up the...
I've visited many breeders and seen wonderful ample pens and small barely serviceable ones. Several successful long time breeders in NC put 4-5 adults into ...
For years I have wanted a storage room for all my chicken stuff. Today that wish became a reality. I have a 10' x 14' room that is finished except for the...
That is great Iona. I have a room like that in our barn where incubators and hatchers are, of course all the other "stuff" is in there also. I had 1000...
I have to laugh at myself since reading of your use of your room for a hatching and brooding facility. I have been so excited about just getting a storage...
Iona our barn has been used for so many things, let's see. It is 100x60 and has had show rabbits in hanging cages like you use for your chicks. Got out of...
I like the 'not going out in the weather' part. You have a BARN. It's no wonder you have put it to so many uses. I have considered trying to use my horse barn...
Thank you for some great tips. The property was rather soggy this week, so I'll either add lots of sand to the shelter, or look into the barns with wooden ...
Greetings my dear earthlings, the madman is back - and with a vengeance ! I missed one Friday Sermon, so this is pay back time ! Sit down, relax, prepare ample...
All of my peas and chickens are closed up at night. Their shelters are made with 1/4" heavy plastic fencing to keep snakes out, so when the little darlin' lay...
Isn't it just lovely seeing a dream come true ! I'm so happy for ya Iona - woo hoo. One word of advice though - keep that "bed" idea away from reality - I'd ...
Last year my peafowl laid their eggs in a hole that they made in the dirt in the open. It was OK because it didnt rain too much, but I was thinking that this...
I have plastic 55 gallon barrels laying on their side that I use for nest boxes. I screwed 2 pieces of landscape timber to the side of it so it won't roll....
Iona, you have the barrels sitting on their end and a 'door' cut in the side, right?" Hermit in the Woods ... From: "Iona McCormick"...

They sit on their sides so they are long hollow tubes so to speak. The top of these barrel screw off and I cut about a 1/3 of the bottom out. The hens like...
I have re-thought the bed thing and decided to get a comfortable lawn chair. That way I can rest without getting too comfortable. LOL Iona McCormick Quiet...
