Per using the hot water tap for cooking/whatever - because the water sits
in the hot water tank, stuff collects at the bottom (all kinds of
impurities, minerals, sediment etc) and this is the main reason I've always
known as to why to use cold water, even if you're gonna boil it.

Have you tried boiling the water, then letting it cool, and using that for
the bunnies? I remember a number of occasions when my grandparents had to
do this for themselves in Florida because of something in the water.
