Avian Laparoscopy and Sexing
Laparoscopy has been used in man and animals since the early part of the twentieth century. However, only comparatively recently, with the development of the human arthroscope has the technique been applied to birds. It was first used in birds to determine the sex of those species which do not show sexual dimorphism - the so-called technique of surgical sexing. Furthermore, apart from the direct visual inspection of the avian gonads, it is also possible to evaluate the state of many of the other organs.

Metabolic Considerations for Treatment of Birds
Using the formula BMR= K.W0.75 a table was calculated for the most common weight range of birds presented for treatment in a veterinary practice. Recalculating some pharmacokinetic studies from dose in mg/kg to mg/kcal, these dosage tables became species independent. Based on the calculated daily energy use of the animal, the amount of drug for that animal can easily be extrapolated.
