Pigeon People's purpose is to protect, rescue, and defend pigeons. We use educational outreach to change attitudes. We use legal, peaceful, and respectful methods. We're against population control and believe that euthanasia means mercy killing, not convenience killing.
Pigeons don’t get bird flu or W. Nile virus and otherwise are the same as most birds. This means we're more likely to get sick from people and other mammals. However, incorrect beliefs spread for half a century make rescuing difficult, with people believing they can’t take care of them. In spite of this, people call us every day for help in rescuing.
Most pigeons are partly tame and can be loving companions, as people who take in rescued, flightless birds discover.
This is some of our work: We campaign against hunting, trapping, poisoning, shooting, or netting pigeons in and against laws that keep us from feeding them or that allow cruel extermination.
If you want to keep pigeons off a building, killing will simply let more of them find the newly free spot. The most effective ways are also the kindest and cheapest - mesh, wire coils, and plastic spikes.
Do you want to help pigeons? Sincere, courteous, honest pigeon lovers are welcome. Join the discussion at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pijnpeople (pardon the strange spelling).
