Claudia,
I have had dragons live till there teens, one became very lethargic, & just
wouldn't eat or move any more, but never really seemed to get thin.
An odd thing though, her sister from the same clutch stayed by her side the
whole time, & then passed away a couple weeks later, but she would eat & drink.

Subject: [pogona] is this old dragon behavior or is he ill
I have a dragon who is 10 years old. I plan making a vet appointment
for him but I would like some feed back from this list before I take
him in so I will have a little knowledge about old dragons.
I know that the cage set up is correct for him. uvb lighting has
always been changed within the proper time limits, temp is correct
etc.
My dragon is not eating much, is getting thin, doesn't have much
interest in anything. I hand feed him as he can't see well enough
to get his food. I soak him because he seems dehydrated at times. I
can't get him to eat salad or crickets anymore but he will eat wax
worms and superworms. I kind of thought that he was just getting
near the end of his days because in the past I had read that dragons
live about 8 years. I felt that I had taken him 2 years beyond the
norm. Reciently I have read that the life span has been changed to
about 15 years.
I would like to know who has had dragons that are this age or older
and how does he (or she) look. Do yours see well?, do yours need to
be hand fed and soaked? How do they act? What does an old dragon
look like as he nears the end of his days. If I can prolong his life
I would really like to as he deserves the best I can give him. He
doesn't seem to be in pain he just looks very old.
I am taking him to the vet but I just want to know what other 10 year
old dragons act like. Any feed back will be appreciated.
Thanks,
Claudia
