Leslie,
My daughter's Montessori class kept hairless rats for a while , too. That is
where she developed an interest in rats. Her teacher got advise from the pet
store people who sold the rats. Good ventilation was essential, but also a
warm nest place, too. We used a ten gallon for our regular rat for a while
and it was fine but maintenance was important. After much research, I
purchased a large wire cage from Coast Cages. Our four cats spend some time
gazing at the rat. I have tried to give them a play distraction and move
them away. We also have a cockatiel in a large wire cage and the cats just
about ignore the bird now. The cats have been indoor outdoor for many years
and now are kept inside all the time, but they have not significantly
bothered the caged pets.
Good luck with your hairless.
