Willard was PTS last night. He was about 2 years old, and was losing the battle
with respiratory illness, despite medication.

The vet thought that he may have had congestive heart failure (CHF). He had to
be rushed into the vet yesterday morning because he was gasping for air when I
woke up. They put him on oxygen and gave him something to help open his airways.

After that, he was just miserable for the day. Sprawled out in his hammock, head
propped up so he could breathe...didn' t move at all. I couldn't give him his
medication, because even petting him was enough 'excitement' that put him back
on the verge of gasping.

It was just unfair to him. He was quickly getting worse with every day, instead
of better, and he was my special guy. I couldn't stand by helplessly. It was
destroying me to see him suffer.

He got real sick last year too, but he bounced back after the medications, but
this time around, it just wasn't giving him any relief.

I will miss my sweet Willard, who was a birthday present to me last year. I
didn't get to have him in my life for as long as I hoped, but he showed me all
the love in the world, in the time he was here.

Now he rests peacefully & comfortably next to his old pal, Socrates. I'm sure
they are happy to be reunited.
