I can't believe this, but after Sarah had her babies, "Sandy" a very
calm female rat, purchased to keep my old girl Daisy company, as she
was alone and sad, suddenly attacked Daisy, ripped both of her eyes
out!!!!!! I was horrified to find this after hearing the screams from
the cages. Sandy had given birth to eight babies, (I did not know
she was pregnant either) I would surmise she went after poor little
Daisy because of this.
I gave medical attention to Daisy, as she had been beaten up as well,
and put her in a smaller cage by her self. When I came home much
later that day(in the evening) I came to the small cage to get her to
stay with me as we always did every night. Daisy had her head
resting on her food bowl, but when she heard me, and smelled my
hands, with all the effort she had left, scampered onto my hands,
then as high as she could climb up my arm to "whisker kiss" me under
the chin,....then she dropped her head as her body went limp and died.
.....She waited for me to come home to say "goodbye" in her rattie
way.
Again, I was in tears, as I put another loving family member to rest.
For the score,...my last two female ratties went to the Rainbow
Bridge, Two new females had eight babies each, and for all I know,
the last female purchase to keep Sarah company might be pregnant as
well.
I have had it, my nerves are shot. And some people don't understand
to details of how all of this happened. The pet store manager is
irresponsible.
