Liz-
You might try getting some bird antibiotics, either Ornacyn, Ornacyn
plus, or Ornacycline. You can get them in the bird section of a
good-sized pet store. My vet says that they're mainly vitamins, but
it can't hurt. If it doesn't help, you might decide to take the rat
to the vet. Pardon me if you already know this, but they generally
have a congenital respiratory condition called Mycoplasma, passed
along through the birth canal. Some have no trouble from it, some
sneeze continually. The only way for them to avoid passing along
this disease is to deliver kittens through Caesarean. Lab rats are
delivered this way, but most pet and feeder rats have Myco to one
extent or another. Hope this helps.

I have some waxworms that my bearded dragon doesn't want and I'm wondering if it is okay to feed them to rats and mice as a treat.

Hi Guys
Just curious I have made a couple of hand plaited leather collars with bells on for those pesky free range rats ( the bells make it easier to find them in a darkened room )
these are made along the same lines as the safety collars for cats with an elastic piece insert but the bells are smaller as are the collars obviously
they are hand stitched and very cute
I will have some pics to put up soon but have to wait till next week when our resident photographer with the digital camera comes over LOLOL
So if anyone is interested in getting one I will be willing to make them on order
we are also designing a leather harness for Rats without buckles but has a stitched small D-Ring which sits in the crossover just behind the shoulder blades which a small lead may be attached to
My sister who is a wonderful designer who runs a Factory which makes medical and surgical support garments also helps and has designed collars with Bow ties for our Bucks and Flower and or Diamonte Collars for our more Glamorous Does
So If you would be interested when I have the pics I shall put them up on the various sites
Just want to know if anyone is interested
And how did this come about you ask well I've been fixing my old Plated red hide Bridle and have been asked to make a Bridle for a friend who has a horse with a Big Boofy Head
I am making a couple of Bridles one using secret plaits and which an old Ringer out west showed me
which is a great Stock horse Bridle which has no Buckles or Rings on it which looks great and works extremely well
so Let me know what you think Guys
I love working with leather and can either do two needle stitching or single needle stitching and love to hand sew have always fixed my own saddles and tack and saved  much money in the process
Cheers Lou

I have 2 beige berkshire females and a beige berkshire and beige vari-
hood male left over from a rescue litter born here back on September
17th. They're not to fancy but they are the SWEETEST most licky rats
I've ever had. None of them have names as they did have homes until
their two prospective adopters stood me up.

I also have a blue/beige/black dumbo litter on the way in a few weeks
if anyone wants to make reservations and on them and as an off-topic
note I took in 3 Syrian hamsters off a local woman who were
absolutely filthy and living together even though they were fully
grown! I have 9 babies now, all golden, that are two weeks today and
need homes soon. :)
Thanks,

As most people know, or at least some....I deal with mostly does and have a colony set up for them. I am setting up another room for the boys. I am expecting 5 boys in 9 weeks (at the most) and some others from another litter, not yet born. I am still looking for some more boys, it's a whole room devoted to them and it can hold alot of rats easily. Where in Michigan r u located at?

Both are bigger then my 8-10 month old girl rats.
Both are handle daily by my kids and I and neither has ever bitten.
Even with rough kid play they are both very docile.
Have also been on carefresh bedding or yesterday news litter. Both
use there litter boy and love to sleep in there hamick.
They were rescue from a class room. There dad was a black self rex
also very big and squishy and mom was a algouti capped hooded
standered coat. Both need homes soon. I only took them to place them.
I can seperate but would prefer they go together and I can give the
cage there in now to the new owner.
If just one is wanted then no cage. $10 each or $25 for both with
there cage.

Hi Guys the sad thing is our little boy with what was a broken foot was put to sleep
poor little thing my vet x-rayed him free of charge and he had some internal injuries
We both suspected he fell from a great height
as they came in Monday the young girl and her mum who dropped them off left with a lot of information but explained they had escaped and she found him behind her hot water heater and his sister on top of it so
we only have 2 boys available and their four sisters

So I decided that I'd help Eowyn with the little ones, since the poor
dear tends to either be in the box feeding them or stretched out on
the other side of the cage dead asleep. I went and got the soy
formula (which Eowyn seems to like more than the babies do), then set
about trying to find a perfect delivery system. I went a million
places and looked all around for a perfect bottle/syringe/etc.
Finally, I went to Hobby Lobby and in the cake decorating aisle, I
found a package of 12 decorative baby bottles (in blue or pink) for
$1.47. They are exactly the right size and shape and hold about 5
ccs of formula. 'Course since she's doing so well now, the little
darlings were hardly interested, so I figure I'll give them a few
hours and see if they're hungry then. Maybe if I feed them a bit,
she'll get some time off. Even though they're only three days old,
their markings are starting to come out slowly. Looks like the four
with ruby(I think) eyes are going to be hoodeds. One has a very
clear heart marking on its back. They're so cute already, I can't
wait 'til they get some fur :)

Hello,
I have 12 babies, born around last November 21st. There are 3 girls and 9 boys, 2 boys are possibly reserved. It's a story that isn't uncommon with a shaky beginning, a great middle and hopefully with your help, has a wonderful and successful ending.

My daughter's neighbor bought the mama from a pet store for the purpose of being a feeder. However, the rat proved to be the stronger of the two and won the battle. The girl who bought her was so angry that she wanted to throw the rat out in the snow to die. My daughter convinced her to give her to me. The neighbor agreed and was going to give her to me the next day. When she went to get the rat to bring her to me the next morning, the girl found the rat had given birth to 12 babies. She decided to keep them "because they were so cute." Two and a half weeks later, she decided the work involved in cleaning the tank and feeding them outweighed their cuteness. So her boyfriend, whose friends all own snakes as well, was going to take the babies and mama to his friend's house for an arena type slaughter with all of their snakes. My daughter convinced her to give them to me to find homes for them, but the neighbor's boyfriend wanted a boy and girl back when they were weaned to breed for food. My daughter never agreed or disagreed and took them and brought them here. That was a week before Christmas. Since getting them, I have been looking for good homes, but unfortunately I can't transport and anyone who's expressed any interest is too far. They are beautiful and have been handled since the day they were born by my daughter, who would go there daily to handle them and by me since I got them. They have been on a good healthy diet and are waiting for loving forever homes. I would love to keep them, but I already have 14 of my own and don't have anymore large cages, as they have outgrown their smaller ones. As far as the 2 wanted back as breeders, my daughter told her neighbor that they all had good homes, which they do - mine, for now. The neighbor said that it was fine.

So, without further ado, I would like to introduce my beautiful babies. I am rat color/type impaired, so please bear with me,

Females:
1 Dark Chocolate Self
1 Black Variegated - Black back, legs with white belly and variegated sides.
1 Silver Fawn?

Males:
1 Black Self - reserved?
3 Black Variegated - Black back, face and legs with white belly and variegated sides.
1 Dark Brown - Brown back, face and legs with white belly and variegated sides.
3 Beige
1 White with Black Mask - reserved?
Mama:
1 Black Variegated - Black back, face and legs with white belly and variegated sides.adopted

So, if you can find room in your house, cage and heart, please consider one of my babies and email me if you have any questions.

Thank you,

Patty

Long story short:

I adopted 2 boys in July 03. Efram has a congenital ear defect (knew
something was wrong after we had him 2 days). I want to get 2 more
boys as I don't expect Efram to live long and I don't want Avory to
be alone. Cannot find a breeder in South-Western PA (or surrounding
states) to save my soul. I had 2 unborn babies on reserve at a
rattery in WVA, but there was only 1 boy and I really think it would
be best to get 2, just in case introductions don't work out.

I'm able to drive 1-2 hours to meet.

Can you help us?

Hi all-
The main reason I started this group was because my girl Eowyn had 12
babies yesterday (That's her with them in the group photo). They
were not a planned litter, I rescued her two weeks ago from a feeder
tank and she was pregnant already. She is absolutely the sweetest
rat you could ever meet. She was already quite hand tame when I
picked her up and she's grown ever sweeter in the two weeks since. I
haven't a clue what the kids'll look like 'cause I have no idea who
daddy is (There wasn't a male in the tank when I got her), but so far
it looks like 8 have pink eyes and 4 have darker (ruby or black).
I'll keep posting photos in her album. Thanks for joining, I hope we
get into the triple digits soon :)

I know it's a little early to be posting, considering there's only 10
members in the group so far (Yay! Double Digits!) But a friend of
mine suggested I post an ad for my rat babies.

I have some dumbos that need to find homes before the 5 week mark.
They're about 3 weeks now. This is what I have:

3 Beige Mismarked American Berkshire Males
2 Ruby-Eyed White Females
1 Black American Berkshire Female
1 Black Self Male
1 Beige Variegated Berkshire Male
1 Beige Self Male

These babies are ALL dumbos and are exceptionally sweet and tame. Let
me know if you or anyone you know may be interested. :) I'm located
in Northern New Jersey, about 15 minutes out of NYC.
