I have been dogless for the last few years, but will be taking on a new pup in March. So I was looking for a Vet in the Highlands Ranch area (but will travel for a really good one). One that knows hunting dogs and Vs in particular would be ideal. I do not feel i had great care from my last Vet. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
We play "find it". Take one of their favorite toys and hide it, while they wait on a stay. Then tell them "find it!" Make it easy at first (like in plain sight just around the corner) and harder as they get better.
Teach them silly new tricks using the clicker.
Leave the mail by the door, and have them deliver it, one piece at a time.
Teach them to clean the dinner dishes and carry them to the dishwasher.
Invite some neighbor kids over - they're going crazy too - and play hide and go seek. (Recalls from person to person) The kids will also come up with a lot of other wild stuff, so you have to referee to keep everyone safe.
We also love to have a rousing game of fetch using the rubber chicken....
I live in Fort Collins and Treasure goes to the Canine Learning Center.

You can find a new trick to teach them all! On the
past snowy weeks where I got to stay home with the V
and the Golden :) they both learned how to "say their
prayers". I was sitting on the couch and they would
sit in front of my and put their front paws on my knee
and put their head down on their paws. It was VERY
cute and took alot of 5 mintues training sessions per
dog!
This won't give them too much exercise though, but it
will keep all of you busy for a while!

A *HUGE* thank you for Gretchen, Paul, and Alyssa for hosting this
year's RMVC party. You guys did so much of the "behind the scenes" set
up/clean up work.
Lots of good food, great gifts for the exchange, and (my favorite part)
camaraderie.
The boys *love* their gifts. Kosmo won't leave his hedgehog alone. He
squeaked it until bedtime the night of the party then, just like a
little kid with a new toy, he grabbed it first thing the next morning.
I woke up to the squeaky/honking sounds of the hedgehog. Remus hasn't
stopped wiggling his butt since we gave him his Air Toy tennis balls.
He carries one around all the time unless he's eating or sleeping. Very
cute.
Hope you Vs enjoys their gifts as much as ours are enjoying theirs.
Happy and healthy holiday wishes,
Mel

Well, it was the year of the MONKEY! Everyone wanted the MONKEY at this
year's holiday party! We had a great turn out. Thanks to everyone who
came and brought some yummy eats (Gail, the turkey was wonderful and
Kelli - that Rum Cake, enough said!!!) Thanks to Gretchen for arranging
the location.
Here's a funny story... I was returning home this afternoon and as I was
walking in the garage door I heard holiday music that scared me. I
thought for sure someone was in the house! I left Mackenzie in the car
and slowly opened the door to find Amber anxiously greeting me with the
pink stuffed ornament toy that plays Christmas music!!! (By the way,
someone left it at the
party...)
The night Wubba is a huge hit at our house with all canine and human
kids (and adults).
Thanks to everyone for the fun we had and here's to a great 2007!
Looking forward to organizing some activities and seeing everyone again
soon!

We use the model right below these...the Bark n Boots.
I've found that they stay on quite nicely and they're

They have been waist deep in the snow and the boots

Hi Everyone,
Our vizsla, Chili Pepper, is eight months old and she absolutely must
have her one-hour walk everyday to stay happy (and let everyone else in
the house stay happy). But with this snow and cold weather, her feet
get cold before she is ready to come in. Can anyone suggest a type and
brand of boot that is sturdy, weather-proof, and most importantly, one
that will not fall off during a long romp? If you have a
recommendation, please also include where it can be found.
Thank you for your suggestions,
Dale, Katherine, and Chili Pepper Hokens
I am sorry to hear about your horrible story and I hope your pup is okay. We have a 5 month old Vizsla, Sasha, and due to an injury I suffered we have been taking her to City Bark Lodo (www.citybark.com) and we love it. She goes at least once a week and the people love her there and take great care of her. They keep her with the smaller dogs and we can watch her on webcams just to see how she's doing. Each time we pick her up she is jumping with excitement and by the time we pull out of the driveway she's sound asleep. I highly recommend them.
I hope this works out for you!

Hi Everyone,
Would the Vizsla owners who live downtown tell me what Doggie day care they use (NOT Dogtopia)?
We were taking Lomu (7 months) to Dogtopia. Yesterday she was attacked by a pack of 20 dogs (led by 2 very large aggressive dogs) when my husband went to pick her up. The folks at Dogtopia say she was attacked b/c she starting her 'happy whining' when she saw him. She is NOT aggresive, in fact she is very passive and that is probably why she was attacked.
She is OK, a couple of small broken skin bites and some welts. We are not going to send her to daycare for a while and we are never going back to Dogtopia.
Any advice about dog care and how to help her to become more confident would be appreciated.

Can someone send me information on club meeting dates and places?
Also can we pace some links on our new site that can assist new owners
with where they can find comfirmatioon standards, reputable trainers
in different areas such as showing, hunting, agility and so on.
Also is there a way to better define where people live so we might
beable to find playmates or support close to home.

Hi All,
The judge for 2007 Nationals is Donald Sturz.
You can stay anywhere you feel like. There are a dozen hotels
off the same exit. Apparently the host hotel should still have
rooms at the VCA rate of $99, Linda Kelly is working on getting
things straightened out, so try back again in a few days.

I will be out of the office starting 11/02/2006 and will not return until 11/14/2006.
I will be out of the office during this time and will not have access to email/voicemail. If you need BCRS assistance, please contact my Team Lead, Earl Ingalls. Earl can be reached at 303-924-3573. I will respond to your email upon my return to the office.
I have to let as many local Denver Vizsla owners know about a potential trainer problem. We, in rescue, have found that not all trainers are experienced in handling/training Vizslas. They treat them like just another dog. We had a problem last year where we were not able to save a rescue and it had to be put down. The dog was literally afraid to make a move, afraid she would be punished.
We were just contacted about a family that was having a problem with their 6 yr old V who had a possessive problem, you could not take anything out of his mouth or from under his foot. The trainer they took him to and paid $1500 to help alleviate the problem told them that he would not ever get over this problem, but was ok in any other way. She told them to not play with the ball with him, not to take him to the dog park, not let him sleep in bed with them, and to use a special collar
(have not found out the name yet), that I am told cuts off the air. This trainer would correct the dog by looping the leash on the door know and hanging him till he couldn't breathe. When she did this the first time he pooped all over the place. Wouldn't you?
This trainer was referred to the Vizsla owner by a local shelter.
I don't know how you want to handle this, Mel. Maybe I can give you the information and you can let anyone who calls for a trainer referral know about this person.
This person also called my assistant in KS and chewed her out and accused her of stealing business away from her. We also found out that she was also involved with another of our rescued Vs.
Please make sure when you are looking for a Vizsla trainer, you ask what their experience is and for references and check the references. These people who called me were prepared to
have their precious V put down. But thanks to my assistant the dog is responding to the methods prescribed by her.
