Matt,
Re the kelp, oddly enough dogs don't seem to mind it at all in the water. I
see the occasional leaf sticking to a Labrador or something, but not very
often. It doesn't even stick to my shoes too much. It's more of a visual
impediment. Besides, usually half the beach is non-kelpy.
The thing about the Albany Bulb is that there are also other things to see.
So people could also hike around.
There is the plateau -- for dogs and humans who enjoy bird watching (aka,
chasing). The center of the plateau is a fenced burrowing owl preserve. I
don't know if there are owls, or not, but there are tons of swallows and
finches, and many butterflies and colorful moths. Also the plateau
overlooks a inlet with many waterfowl to see.
Then on the peninsula there are the sculptures and the art gallery and the
wonderful high-road path that looks out over the bay on both sides.
But for the beach we would need to do low tide for sure, so morning in July.
I wouldn't mind switching to Sunday to get you guys to attend. What do
other people think about meeting on July 26th, 10-12?

yes, such a conflict.
i was also thinking about the debris that comes in. i seem to recall seeing
a lot of kelp seaweed in the water. it occurs to me that barclay isn't too
fond of obstructions in
the water. he likes to get in, then get out. do you think this is an issue?
i guess we can just see what happens.
10-noon would be great, but not for deborah and me. we have a standing one
hour commitment on saturdays during that time and probably couldn't get to
the eb until
around 2 or 2:30pm. sunday might be doable, but the weather would have to be
stellar (obviously).
we're not so organized here in sf, we usually decide that we're going to
mill valley, then just go. if anyone is interested, we could plan a day trip
to mill valley on saturday or
sunday. we can figure out giving those a ride who need one after we decide
if we're going to do it. let's do it if we can get a few folks. it was sure
fun last year.
until then, i think folks should seriously consider the albany bulb in the
east bay. it's close and it should be fun.
