This list focuses on the South American short-tailed opossum (also called "STO" and "Monodelphis domestica"). We have many STO owners, breeders and potential owners. Topics include care, keeping these fascinating pets happy and healthy, legal issues and STO wanted/for sale ads.
Short-tailed opossums are a small, *solitary*, exotic, pouchless marsupial gaining popularity as a "pocket pet". Originally from Brazil, they have been bred in the USA for the pet trade since 1994. While close to the size of sugar gliders, they are not closely related, and they are only distant cousins of the large 12-pound opossum found in North America.
