Are you still needing website help? I have some html knowledge and tho
I don't use MS Paint, I do know PhotoShop CS2 and have some knowledge
of ImageReady as well. I had created and maintained a few sites for
another group I belonged to when I lived in Oregon. I can't leave my
house much, so I would be able to work online a good bit, but am
limited to dial-up out here in the sticks, basically I could do all
the work in 1/2 the time it will take to upload lol!

Happy Tails (Success stories.) This would require only an hour or two
a month typically, once you get the hang of the interface. The pages
don't require any html, everything is what-you-see-is-what-you-get and
the only real work involved is uploading new photos, editing the
stories to remove last names, perhaps cropping photos to remove
children or extraneous stuff (though I can do that if you don't know
how. All it takes is MS Paint.) Basically, as I get updates worth

Just a reminder to all that tonight starts this year's loooong Independence Day weekend. Please be extra careful with your dogs when walking, pottying, going in and out of doors, etc. You never know when your dog might startle, even if she hasn't in past years, and be gone for good. Shelters always see dogs coming in after the Fourth of July because the dogs jumped a fence, broke a chain, backed out of their collar, bolted out of the door, etc, when they heard something go off.
It's something that most of us are aware of, but it bears repeating.
Be safe, have fun, happy holiday!

Independence Day, by Crystal Collins, Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue
Today, I gain my independence. I've had months of bittersweet "freedom" Where food was scarce and frights were plenty. When I could not sleep or find shelter from cold. I've spent weeks behind this chain link door. The days meet nights and a leash has been my closest friend, And I've laid here, watching people just like you Leave with dogs that are just like me.
Today, I stand apart from the others. I am no longer one of the rest. Another "mutt", another "stray" in a world of strangers, Because I barked too much Or soiled the carpet Or cost too much Or needed affection Or never learned to obey.
Today I have been chosen. Though you walked through the aisles and saw others like me, It was my stare that you held with your own for so long. My tail wags, my heart bounds, I am happy again, though I have long been forgotten by someone I can never forget. I'll forgive the hands that touched me with too much force. And the voices that said my name with distaste.
Today is Independence Day And I will hold my head and tail high as I walk through these doors.
Today a new home, a new world, a new life is mine And I am free.
Hi all- I've just revamped my website but I want to make sure it's not too much of a bandwidth hog. I really don't think it is, but I'm a *little* concerned about the background picture being a bit larger than it was before I made some changes. I'm an amateur at this so I don't know what an acceptable sized background is. :p
Also, Debbie L has a widescreen monitor and so the background (instead of tiling) just drops off into a solid color- I did my best to match it but I know it won't look as nice as if I could arrange it another way.
Is there anyone here *with dialup* that can tell me if the site runs very slow? It might take a few seconds initially but once you're on it, try navigating away and back to the home page and let me know if it seems to do alright. Also, and this can be any speed internet, but please let me know if it is 1. Tiling the bg image, or 2. not big enough and substitutes a solid color on the right hand side of your screen.

this came today, I think it is worth a little of you time to view the message, Loren
This is a video of a homeless guy in Santa Barbara and his pets. You can see these guys every week working State St. For donations.
The animals as you can see are pretty well fed and I can attest to how mellow they are. They are a family.
The man who owns them rigged a harness up for his cat so she wouldn't have to walk so much (like the dog and himself). At some juncture the rat came along and as no one wanted to eat anyone else, the rat started riding with the cat and often, on the cat !
The dog, will stand all day and let you talk to him and admire his altruism, as if one personality, for a few chin scratches.
The Mayor of Santa Barbara filmed this clip and sent it out as a Christmas card.
Hi all. The list has been quiet lately and so have I, really.
Personal issues have kept me completely behind the scenes but I want
to let everyone know that the rescue is hopping with activity
regarding applications, placements, event planning, and other great
things.
We are going to be doing regular events in Johnstown, PA at the Petco-
weekends where we will take our foster "furkids" to get some
exposure and hopefully more volunteers and adopters. Anyone in the
area is encouraged to stop by or even better, volunteer! :) The
events page of our website will be updated as we get the dates
planned.
We have two bunny rabbits looking for a home, a lovely little
chihuahua who is as sweet as pie, and a great little cat named Spooky
who is the most wonderful guy to ever "stray" up to our property. We
have had two foster failures in the last couple months- Rusty and
Buddy have found their forever homes with their foster parents. Coal
and Twiggy the cats moved to Indianapolis, IN with their new family
and are very happy there. Sebastian (Woobie) was returned to us but
has a new home that has been approved to adopt him. After more than
7 months, Tooey the rat has an approved applicant finally. Foster
Lacy the cute senior doggy has been diagnosed with incontinence but
cross your paws- she has an applicant who is interested in her for
the wonderful dog she is, despite this simple health issue that would
put so many off.
The rescue would like to wish you all a happy Valentine's Day! Hug
your furkids,
Crystal Collins

Hi guys, normally I don't post this stuff but I'm trying to see if I can find some market for my art, and at the same time make some money for my rescue.
This is a golden retriever, but I do custom portraits, too- different sizes. $15 of every sale goes to my rescue, I keep the rest which pretty much all goes back to the rescue anyway since we've got 2 dog fosters, 4 cat fosters, and 3 small animal fosters to feed... (bunnies go through a LOT of produce!)
I know that some other members of the list do artwork and I'm NOT trying to step on any toes, but honestly, if I have some sort of an ability to make something that looks nice, I might as well try to use that to help support my furkids and fosters...

We Found A Big black Lab mix, well he found us. I went outside after tying one of my dogs to her runner. And he was just sitting on our front steps. He's been sticking around and won't leave.I've never seen him in Starford before, and after waking up this morning and discovering he was still waiting around. It is obvious that he used to have belonged to someone that took the time to teach him some Tricks. he knows sit stay down, and will give you his paw, he is very submissive, has obviously been and outside dog. and has obviously had an embedded chain in his neck at one point in time this dog is very friendly and an older chap, SOME ONE HAS TO BE MISSING HIM ! the shelter isn't open and the Dog warden hasn't answered her phone being that is is Sunday. We have no Dog house or shelter big enough for him. I Don't want to leave him outside... but I don't have much choice. He is so sweet and has shown us that he would like to come inside. But He can't our lab mix is very insecure and doesn't like him very much. But he is very friendly to her and our other two dogs. I'm in great need of some help with this I don't know what to do with him. I don't know the laws about harboring an animal.. I don't want to get into trouble with that but he is old and shouldn't be left out in the weather. Not to mention we live on the main road and he has been running all night long. IF ANYONE COULD HELP PLEASE PLEASE LET ME KNOW!!!!
Try calling Four Footed Friends- they will take strays in an emergency. 724-349-1667. They will probably take him in, since you haven't gotten any response from the shelter. You may need to leave a message because I'm thinking they aren't open until 1pm, but they'll get back to you (if not, keep calling!!!) They're a no kill facility, also.
They have the resources to make sure that every effort is made to find his home! He may be microchipped or have been reported missing.

Thankyou so much!
I'm sure this wonderful dog would thank you too!
Six and a half months ago on June 1st, I had a very busy day! I picked up owner-foster STAR kid Cosmo and took him on a home visit to what became his now forever home. When I left Cosmo- now Bo- I headed yet farther away from my house and into Pittsburgh, PA to get a dog who at one point had looked at possible euthanasia due to some aggression issues his owner had struggled with for three years. Buddy wasn't sure he wanted to leave his home with a total stranger, and was very uncertain of himself on the nearly two hour ride back to my house. He went from being an only dog to a foster in a very busy household- with 4 dogs and many cats of our own as well as our foster setter Dover, he was understandably overwhelmed. The first couple days he was with us, he just watched everybody with a tense uncertainty. It wasn't long before he decided that as long as I was around, he could be himself with little worry.
Buddy came with a nice repertoire already but in his time here he's added many cute tricks as well as lots of agility obstacles and some other commands and skills to his arsenal. He's gone to every event we've held since he came into the rescue, and even won two blue ribbons for best pet tricks at one event wowing people with his newest tricks (learned that weekend!) of jumping through a hula hoop and dancing on his hind legs, among other things. We had an evaluation at my training center where he impressed my trainer and got a thumbs up from her regarding his personality. Unfortunately, we didn't and couldn't address the aggression problem because he was behaving like such a perfect gentleman! He has some bad manners, probably from life on the street at some point, but he has a lot of very cute habits that we adore. If I bow to him and pretend to play, he runs off to find the nearest stuffed animal and will bring it to me, pushing it into my leg. If I were to wrap a blanket around my legs or allow him onto the bed or couch with me he would crawl under the covers and go to sleep (we're not in this practice now due to his problems from time to time with other dogs in the house.)
Buddy has made some massive improvements here though there is no Cesar Millan, dog whisperer here to make magic changes for him. We've tried multiple methods of training with him and some have been more efficient than others. He's transformed from a pathetic little wreck into a very affectionate and much more confident dog, though he still has a very long way to go. I have often thought that group obedience training and agility would be the way to go, but due to financial hardships I haven't been able to get to classes.
Due to some recent episodes as well as other issues that have come up, we've decided that Buddy is not adoptable. In tears I talked with my husband about our options. We didn't come to any solid resolutions, and then today Buddy and I had a major difference of opinion and Buddy showed us that he definitely can't go anywhere else, ever. Ross and I decided there was only one thing we could do...
So say hello to the newest member of our family- Buddy Collins-Johnson II! (Our male dove's name is Buddy so he has to be the 2nd) It wasn't how I expected we'd acquire our next dog, and certainly hasn't happened at a time I'd have guessed, but I am very happy that his future is not uncertain. No matter what, we'll be sure he gets the care he needs, I'm making it a priority. It wasn't long after he came into our house that he and I found a very close bond with each other, and hopefully we'll be able to use that to show him what trust and human love is really about.
Welcome home, Buddy.
Buddy isn't adoptable, that's a given. We can't be liable for any injuries he might cause- and he would in the wrong home- and I don't expect most adopters to be committed to the intensive training and behavioral therapy that he will need. But he is such an incredible dog, whom we love dearly and with whom I have a strong bond. Nothing makes me happier than to be able to welcome him into our "pack" permanently and offer him the chance to be himself. I not only accept him for what he is but I can see the potential in him to be the best little "beaglador" ever!
Happy Holidays from the Collins-Johnson family

Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue's annual rescue pets calendar is now available! This year you may still purchase your calendar via the CafePress website, but we now have the option of providing the calendars to you at a much lower price if you order directly from the rescue. This is a fundraising opportunity that serves also as a showcase for our rescue animals. A high quality keepsake for adopters and foster homes.
Our rescue calendars are printed on high quality stock with a beautiful semi-gloss finish. The multiple picturese per page are high resolution, photo quality prints that really bring the calendar to life. Each month contains a heartwarming story or message that conveys our mission of animal rescue while showcasing the animals that touched our lives in 2007. Where possible, pets are displayed in the month they were adopted or rescued. We received numerous compliments from buyers of our 2007 calendar, and this one should not disappoint! With more photos, more visual detail, and more lovable animals gracing its pages, we are proud of this product and are sure you will be proud to hang it in your home. The subdued and elegant colors along with the clean lined calendar grids beneath will complement the interior of any home or office.
The price for this product directly from STAR is $15, plus $4 for shipping to total $19. This is $5 less expensive than purchasing from Cafepress directly, though you will need to add a week for shipping via STAR. When purchased through the rescue, the entire $19 price is tax deductible. If you choose to order 3 or more calendars, contact me for combined shipping cost at starfishsaving@....
To order, you may send payment via snail mail to STAR; PO Box 77; Lucernemines, PA 15754 OR you can send a secure payment from your credit card or bank account via www.PayPal.com- send to starfishsaving@.... Please be sure to mark your payment as goods/merchandise rather than a donation.
If you place an order for a gift, be sure to include the address we should mail to in your PayPal checkout page or with your payment via mail. Delivery should take 2-4 weeks from the time you place your order until you receive it, though with holidays you might expect a delay.
If you have any questions, please contact me! We look forward to your continued support in 2008!
He's crazy! :) He's going to the prison dog program next week. He needs some serious training with manners and obedience. Miranda has done a lot of work with him and he's gone from being aggressive with her dogs to being able to play with them but he needs a lot of work and we're hoping that in the prison, he'll get enough training to really work on his stuff!
Crystal, I'm so happy that you have a special rescue. I remember when you were just talking about it and now look. Just having all these babies..must bring joy, even when there's sorrow.
Blessings,
Fran and Crew

What if Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue earned a penny every time you searched the Internet or shopped online? Well, now we can!
GoodSearch.com is a new search engine that donates half its revenue, about a penny per search, to the charities its users designate. You use it just as you would any search engine, and it's powered by Yahoo!, so you get great results.
GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates a percentage of each purchase to your favorite cause. More than 100 great stores including Petsmart, Walmart, eBay, Amazon and Best Buy have teamed up with GoodSearch and every time you place an order, you’ll be supporting your favorite cause. You just have to go to GoodShop.com, put in our rescue's name and click on any of the stores on the list. Afterwards, just do your shopping and a percentage will be donated to us!
Just go to www.goodsearch.com and be sure to enter Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue as the charity you want to support. And, be sure to spread the word! This is the easiest fundraising you could ever do for rescue! If each of you were to do just 2 searches a day with goodsearch (I made it my home page so I use it more than Google), we could earn $730 a year this way!
Search engines generated more than $6 billion in revenue last year. Just think how many animals could be saved with even a fraction of this money!
Please spread the word!

We made $101 today! I think a good bit of it came from magnet sales, which were a hit last year, and we made some money from raffling off a pet portrait from yours truly complete with frame.
Thanks to Erin and Jon, and Miranda for the help! Two weekends in September and we've got $600 to add to the bank (which is great because we've got some dogs that need vetted and bloodwork, and a bunny to neuter, and we need to buy more stuff for events next month (Pgh Pet Expo!) :)

We have the opportunity to go to the Pgh Pet Expo this year, I have only a couple weeks to get my registration and entrance fee sent in. It's $300 and so I really can't do it if we're not going to have the volunteer help to make it worthwhile. I can probably go both days but need hopefully 2 more volunteers each day.
Please let me know if you can help and pass the word to others who may be interested in volunteering an afternoon for Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue.

We made a great $115 at today's event AND thanks to $20 in raffle tickets I won $150 in pet cremation/memorial gift certificates today- it's a morbid thought, but being in animal rescue it's something we will use eventually, for sure. The certificates don't expire. I'm going to keep one of the certificates for my guinea pig who passed away and needs cremated, but $215 isn't a bad haul for the rescue. I also won a raffle basket and took some stuff out, added others, and made it up to raffle for STAR.
No pics, I forgot my camera. We had an all-star cast there today! Buddy, Matty, Lacy, and Stewie the rabbit were the adoptables at our booth. Lacy's foster brother Rocky won the cutest pet contest at the show- he's taken, sorry everyone! :D It was a fun day!
Chuck brings us great joy! He's a gorgeous seal Siamese cat. One of the first adult cats we've rescued because it's hard for us to adopt out cats- even kittens grow up here. I took him in because being a purebred, I think we have a better chance at finding him a home.
He's declawed, neutered, UTD, doing swell. He'll make someone a great pet. Came to me for litterbox woes but even in a house with 8 others, he doesn't go outside the pans like his owners claimed.
I don't have a job anymore, so I'm getting back into portrait-work and looking into photography to help supplement Ross's income. I thought I'd share. :)
Of course! I've seen enough of your great photos, and artwork, to want to be right up on that list!

It's not my place anymore- I resigned last night around midnight via email. I'm glad you liked walking the dogs there, they are really great pups. Key-key is amazing even though everyone freaks out if you mention he's a pit mix.
The party mix wasn't a hit like I expected, so we'll be taking what's left to the events this weekend, and I think it'll sell a little better there. Hope so, anyway! We won't have as many other cookies as we did this weekend to compete with it, though. Everyone loved the fresh cookie layout like a bakery and at 2 for $100 we made quite a take just on cookies alone. :)
Welcome back West! I still have supplies to make more "party mix". If it sold well, let me know and I'll make another batch for this weekend's festivities. If not, no problem, Ollie and Maggie loved them. I stopped into FFF on Friday to walk dogs in your place. That was awesome, I think I'll do that a lot more. Those dogs are so sweet to walk. Key-key surprised me, I thought he'd pull but he's one well-behaved (big pooping) dog! Let me know about the party mix when you have a chance. I doubt I'll make it out to the events this weekend. Rodney & I have to rebuild our backporch. Yuck! Homeownership sucks! :)
This weekend began "Event season" here at Starfish To the sea Animal Rescue. At the Scottish Irish festival in Green Lane, PA we made about $400. We sold some cat stuff, dog toys, dog treats, books, all kinds of stuff. Buddy got a lot of attention doing parlor tricks on cue and two applicants though neither appears to be appropriate for a dog with his special history (aggression.) We will be taking him to our next events and hopefully he'll continue to garner attention with his adorable tricks.
This Saturday we have the Bandshell Bark event in Johnstown, PA, at Roxbury Park, and Sunday is the CPHS Pet fair in Altoona/Hollidaysburg at Legion Park. More info can be found on the Events page on our website. Anyone who would like to help out at these events is very much welcome. The more people and dogs at our booth, the more attention we will get, the more money we'll make and the more the word will be spread about our mission! I truly believe that had we had just two more people and at least one more STAR dog at this weekend's event (this isn't a guilt trip, I realize no one can make that kind of a trip with us!) we could have almost doubled our sales. I don't want to sound greedy but these events are extremely important for the well being of the rescue since we usually spend much more on each animal's vetting than their subsequent adoption fee.

PA, at Roxbury Park, and Sunday is the CPHS Pet fair in Altoona/Hollidaysburg at Legion Park.
